The wizard's backstory makes her the most interesting. Here's something to think about - If you're reacting so strongly to the backstory, it means it was written well.
The barbarian wants to avenge mt. arreat and bring order from chaos
The monk is just being all Cain from Kung Fu and walking the earth (like a bum, Jules)
The demon hunter just wants to kill things that hurt her has a child
The witch doctor is killing to get money for his Parkinson's research
The wizard is all "I will kill them all because fuck yeah."
From playing the Beta all this while I can say one thing. I hate the female Wizard so much in comparision to the male Wizard, which I like. I dunno something about her voice just pokes me the wrong way. And I wished in these videos they would show the counter parts for people to see.

"The righteous shall fall before the wicked, and all of Creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell."
Ugh I wish they wouldn't force a specific personality on your character. At the very least only give them one that actually befits a HERO. I have to be a self-serving pretentious brat in order to play a Wizard? Thanks Blizzard.
And if they went with the kind of personality you wanted someone would have complained that it's too generic.
While this may be a bad turn for you, like others in this topic mentioned, her personality is nothing new.
As for me, flashy spells with cracked up cackling on the side?[2:07] I'm in.
And while I don't believe it myself, I really hope that the wiz turns out to be underpowered compared to the other characters. Sick of unintentionally picking an [at least comparably] OP character in a Blizzard title and being ridiculed for it.
Like others, I feel like this video makes the Wizard seem underwhelming and less powerful. It was just weird to see her have to set up a lot of things - run in, then Frost Nova, then Wave of Force, then run away (or just stand there and make snarky comments - which I actually kinda like). Or, Meteor, then run in and Wave of Force. Or shoot a bunch of stuff with multiple spells, then run in and wave of force. (Wave of Force builds incoming...) And, it didn't help for the narrator to basically say, "If she runs out of Arcane Power, she's kinda screwed." Also, compared to the Demon Hunter, the other truly ranged class, the wizard seemed to be constantly surrounded or within melee range of everything. I know that will change between players, but, without teleport, it didn't seem like it was possible to get away and actually be a ranged class.
It's not my favorite class, but playing it throughout the beta was really fun. Looking at the variety in her later spells and thinking of the types of awesome builds you can put together looks awesome, so I'll definitely get to her eventually.
I already have a first character picked, but I have been unsure about a second champ; I actually really liked this video, and I think the wizard will be my second main.
Fun mix of spells, and the idea of going super saiyan (archon) to just demolish monsters definitely has some appeal
I also don't care if she sounds like a cocky brat - after I'm through with her, it is going to be very well deserved.
Why are people surprise about the Wizard's background? The female Wizard being a reckless rebel is probably the first thing we learn of her. Hell, it's in the overview in the official site.
Reckless rebels aren't necessarily cocky dbags and often they lighten up near the latter half of the story learning to grow up and realize they are part of something bigger than themselves. I had no problem with her having an attitude at the start but if she's going to be that way to the bitter end then she's just a sad little girl and not a hero.
She says she amazes herself when she kills a couple enemies with one blow. How is that deserving of being cocky? The others can do that too and they do not act like a moron about it.
I love how maniacal and demented her laughs and voice overs are. The female wizard seems to be borderline evil and I embrace it. I will be a male on all four other classes, but I can't pass up playing this egotistical bitch. Wish the other classes had this much personality.
I'm still deliberating between the WD and the Wiz.
My wife has officially chosen the monk... so i have to go a ranged char... and I hate the DH.
I do agree with everyone that this video makes the wizard look like a pussy... but playing the wiz in the beta makes me disagree with that sentiment.
You don't have to do anything, lol. And if you're going for synergy, then anything but the DH goes with the monk (they both use Dex) so better odds of gear.

Archon seems really disappointing as it doesn't really seem to bring anything new to the table as far as skills.
Barb had the best class video imo. I started wanting a Wizard ever since D3 was announced but from skill video reveals to current damage numbers and now this underwhelming video and unfortunate revelation of the fact that she doesn't seem to be improving her attitude later on in the game...Wizard is now at the bottom of the list.
How about you enjoy the magnificent young lady for what she is, rather than complain?
Makes YOU sound like a real life pretentious brat.
Also, her personality is the best hero personality I've personally seen in a game for a while now, all those boring tragic/goodie-two-shoe heroes really make me mad. Give me an exciting voice that seeks power and self improvement over "saving the world", give me a lady with some sass and an attitude. She's slaying demons for crying out loud, must she be a boring normal hero to do it?

The dbag part is all in your mind
And sometimes growing up means realizing nothing matters EXCEPT for you.
Who cares for heaven and hell? Let them fight it out. Not to mention the voice acting of the character itself does not change until the very end. What COULD happen is some minor touches on certain quests' dialogue where the female Wizard will be a bit less cocky and more to the point. But I wouldn't want her to change her personality for any reason.
I want my hero to be stronger than both, not to be your normal hero accepting orders and doing as told since he's "part of something bigger". She's cocky, with reason, if you look at the timing of phrase-putting that's RNG so don't go and act all silly about that.
Just because you like your girls to be good does not mean we all do. I like mine naughty and witty.

Well she's saving the world, that makes her a heroine in my book and easily meets the requirements to wear the mantle of heroine.
I've always loved the wizard even before the skills were announced. But the beta experience let me feel her as a very versatile caster with a strong mix of control and power depending on your style. With the proper mix of skills, she can take more hits then a monk, or kite better than a DH.
She doesn't need to be popular. The lesser wizards out there, the lower the demand and the cheaper her orbs will be on the AH.

So funny and a bit out of context, love it.

Yeah, I miss the days when IGN was a small gaming website most had never heard of. A victim of its own success (in the spiritual sense).

TL;DR -
Your defense means NOTHING!

Quote for the win. Exactly my point of view.

There's a word for that; hubris.
It's a Harry Potter story. I hate Harry Potter.
