Yea, yea. Well some of us actually have real jobs and don't dedicate our lives to video games... So when I do play, I don't wanna waste time on the respawn screen. And I understand I didn't pay Blizzard for the item and they only got a % cut from it. The fact is items that are bought with real currency need to retain stat value. And to Mr. HoobaGoblin and Slayerviper - I did read forums bud. Never did I see a 50% nerf announced. I was expecting more of a cap/deminishing returns on % attack speed. Regardless if it was a $250 item or a 10$ item, item changes should have been performed WAY before any real money auctions were implimented.
For your kind Blizzard presented RMAH, so you could skip farming gear/gold (and thus see death screen much, much less) and just buy it with real money. Also, time is money, friend, so you've bought someone's time, which doesn't affected by IAS-nerf. Also, Blizz aren't soothsayers, so they can't predict best balance, otherwise they've done it already long time ago. For next few years this game will face lots of fixes, nerf and buffs, so they just can't change everything before releasing RMAH, cos this way they won't release at all.
Also, you're item didn't lost any of it's value, since it still have some stats + IAS, which is still good. Yes, you can't stack it that high, but it's still AWESOME.
I am going to have to say that I am pretty pissed at this point. I bought an item off the auction house for $250. It was an amulet that has 15% Attack speed increased and is a set item. (blackthorne medal). One of the main reasons this was worth so much was due to the attack speed benefit from the item. Now that the attack speed on the item that i just bought decresed from 15% to 7% (what blizzard says is a 50% reduction) I want 50% of my money back! This is a scam and a great way for blizzard to make money. Lets buff items (which makes them expensive) so people buy them (Blizzard make some money), and then next patch we'll just nerf them -- repeat. Blizzard, if you are going to come up with genious idea of real money auction house, those items need to keep their worth. I purchased an item that was worth $250, and just because of a patch, I get screwed. This is not right and something needs to be done. Maybe I didn't follow the patch preview closely enough, but the last time I saw an update it was still up for debate for how the attack speed increase bonus would be handled. If items are going to go to crap, just say so Blizzard!
I don't feel like reading through two pages so I'm just adding 2 cents in case nobody has made the point already. Blah blah it's your own fault blah, you knew they were nerfing ias. While you say that last you knew "it was still up for debate for how the attack speed increase bonus would be handled", the debate was never whether or not it would be nerfed, it was always going to be nerfed. You make it sound like it might be left alone or even buffed perhaps...no. It was always going to be a nerf, the only question was to what extent.
Why would you buy something that you know is moments from nerf? Better yet, why would you spend $250 on a couple of pixels? Are you aware that's more than 4 times the price of the game itself? And an amulet, no less? Lastly, I can't feel bad for your pay-to-win strategy backfiring on you. Play, get better, win.
That was a stupid move on your behalf dude. Still, you are not screwed since this is the most IAS you will get on an amulet anyway.
^^this, and if you were stacking IAS you still can, but to be honest, anyone who spends 250$$'s on an item has way to much money and deserves every bit of what just happend. Blizz can do w/e they want it's their game. Best part about it. You paid that 250$$'s for an item you don't even own. Thats blizzards item and you only bought the right to use it. Sorry to hear about your loss and I hope this makes you stop and think about your REAL LIFE MONEY PURCHASES in the future.
Haha why the hell would you pay $250 for pixels in a game. Also they announced the IAS nerf weeks ago you should have been paying attention. 99% your fault 1% the guy who put the item on the RMAH hoping some little kid would be dumb and buy it.
You failed when you paid $250 for that neck. Do you read the forums you post on? You knew that drop rates were being increased and IAS was being nerfed, right? Regardless, to pay $250 for *anything* at this point is extraordinarily stupid at this point considering that the economy is so overly inflated.
Lesson learned; don't spend $250 on a piece of gear.
I would not spend a whole lot on RMAH right now for a lot of reasons. You said its a set item. In 1.1, they are patching all legendaries including sets to make them more interesting, and the changes do not effect existing items, so any legendary purchased now will be one of the weakest of its kind in a few weeks.
Plus, the economy is new, and the number of people sucessfully farming act 2-4 areas are low. As they get time to farm more items, and more people become able to farm, items will become more readily available and prices will drop.
Also, after1.0.3, high ilvl items can fall in act 1 and even late Hell locations. That's going to open high level item farming to more people too.
This game is early in its lifecycle, and the economy is new. Buying high priced items is a very bad idea right now, and buyers accepting those prices make it possible for sellers to continue overcharging. Wish people would realize that the game's longevity is limited, that games systems are new, and changes will probably effect gearing decisions for several months, and that the available item pool is growing. Stop accepting these prices.
IA viable high end item should be 10$ or so, and a near perfect one should be worth something like 30$. Stop saying yes to overpriced sellers.
Haha why the hell would you pay $250 for pixels in a game.
Not for pixels but for ability to get pleasure in game. Outside of Diablo people spend much much more for that purpose.
Yea, and you'd get called an idiot for paying $10,000 for a paintball gun too, regardless of the fact that most of them cost more than $250.
The point is, he spent a illogically high amount of money for an item (that is told to you, in the EULA/TOS, is worth nothing and that you don't own in any way, shape, or form).
1. You payed 250 bucks for pixels that are guaranteed to lose their value at some point in the future.
2. The pixels lost their value.
3. You are surprised...

Your right. And I agree with people saying yea it probably was not a good choice. It was a poor impulsive buy. For those who do not understand (and it is clear that there are many) the reasoning behind buying an item at such a high price, it is to be able to make that money back in the future. Being able to farm act 3-4 puts you at a great advantage. More chance to get better gear means sooner or later those % should show. The purchase was an investment in the game with high hopes that I could make it back.

But...you still can farm those acts so...what's the issue? Truth be told you could have spent much less and accomplished the same thing, especially after the patch today. Good investors make sure to do their due diligence and market analysis research before investing. All things considered I would say this was a poor investment by a bad investor. Such is life though.
We’re fixing a number of bugs with Attack Speed, mainly related to the stat not working on some items, but we’ve also decided we need to reduce the effectiveness of Increased Attack Speed overall.
There are two different solutions we’re considering to reduce the effectiveness of Increased Attack Speed. The first is to simply reduce the value on all the items to their desired values. In general our desire is to never change items as that makes them feel less concrete, but the upside is you would still be able to look at an item and know exactly what you are getting.
The other approach is to change the formula used for attack speed aggregation so that stacking attack speed from multiple slots suffers from diminishing returns. The downside of that approach is that it introduces yet another hidden modifier on an item property (and many people dislike hidden modifiers), and complicates the already difficult decision of item gearing.
We’re currently leaning toward the first solution, to simply reduce the value on items, but we’d be interested to read people’s thoughts on the problem.
Not only did they said that IAS will be nerfed, but they also said that the nerf was most likely to be about reducing value.
Are you willing to divulge your career Wambulance? I'm interested in what kind of job gives you this amount of expendable whimsical folly income. I just spent $450 on some decent headphones in a somewhat rash purchase, but I wouldn't even spend $20 on the RMAH and I love Diablo.
A very vague announcement. As I stated before, it could have been nerfed multiple ways. They chose the drastic one.

Whether you paid $250 or $125, or even $2, doesn't matter. Blizzard get the exact same amount of money regardless. $1.
Some lucky player got your money instead. So not only is your whining ignorant, it's also directed at the entirely wrong person/people!
Lesson learned, and I hope it wasn't your parents' credit card that paid this bill.
