Haven't posted in these forums for a loooong time but I signed in just to say how amazing this thread is. Kudos!
Same. Great thread, good ideas. But the voice in the back of my head is like, "Dude, this is awesome, but you know Blizzard will never implement it." Such sadness knowing such enthusiasm and good thinking will just go to waste in the end.
Gaining even more power from pure luck? (Achievements) , Nah.
Removing magic find instead of refining it as a loot vs power balance?, Nah
Constantly using d2 vets as the only valid player wants? , Nah
Rewarding players an insane amount to play mp 10, which is just suppose to be more of a difficulty level than a (mp10 or nothing), nah
It's bad enough the amount of barbs and cm wizards that roll sololy because they feel like mp10 is the only true test of power and skill, and loot, yet are playing the most powerful builds that lack real positional awareness.
A belt that allows a 2handed weapon in each hand? Great, A MUST have belt so you can wield TWO skorns. Yeah, Fun...
Yes, there are some decent thoughts, but nothing I haven't thought of myself or heard already. A lot is just a mess.
Gaining even more power from pure luck? (Achievements) , Nah.
Ermagherd 4% more damage to two handed swords. Too strong.
Removing magic find instead of refining it as a loot vs power balance?, Nah
They supposedly already "removed" magic find with Paragon levels, so this is really just another take on that issue.
Constantly using d2 vets as the only valid player wants? , Nah
This argument has some merit, but it's not like the OP said "only D2 vets should matter". The ideas are just to add some more homage to a game people remember fondly.
It's bad enough the amount of barbs and cm wizards that roll sololy because they feel like mp10 is the only true test of power and skill, and loot, yet are playing the most powerful builds that lack real positional awareness.
This is a skill and class balance issue. Barbarians and Wizards can do so well because of the ability to tap on nearly infinite resources and insane survivability (either through perma-disables or immunity to disables). The suggestion is mostly about loot.
"Lack real positional awareness"? Please, link me to a video of you playing MP 10 on hardcore (or on softcore without 50B gold in gear) and not having to have "positional awareness". It even changes when you're facing Health Link, or ranged AI mobs, or Vortex/Arcane in a cave.
A belt that allows a 2handed weapon in each hand? Great, A MUST have belt so you can wield TWO skorns. Yeah, Fun...
A 2 handed weapon in one hand. I would presume it would be only for the main hand. Otherwise people could have 600% crit damage only from weapons alone.
This is a good post but this is a message for the guy who made this: Don't waste your time giving great ideas to Blizzard, they just will do whatever they think "its fun" for then, believe me, they just destroy Diablo saga and they keep doing it.

It's more of a hobby for me right now. Diablo III is fun, but I've had more fun lately coming up with ideas or solutions to try and make the game better. I'm just glad people like it, or at least stirs up talks about what people would like changed. Right now the official forums are littered with awful and meaningless posts. However, if you look at the topic regarding this post there's now a constructive thread going on with why my ideas are good, bad, or can even be improved on. That's what I want to see.
Even if it these didn't get much attention I'd still make make posts like these, it helps feed some of my creativeness and my passion for gaming.
I appreciate all the work you put in to make this post. While there is some of it that I do not agree with, I truly enjoyed reading your ideas.
For me, D2 was great because you could bang out a few MF runs in a short amount of time. I can't even tell you how many times I would be up in the morning and realize I had 15 minutes before I needed to leave. That was enough time for me to do a handful of mephy/pindle runs before I needed to leave. I actually found things, useful things. I did not feel that I had wasted my time.
In D3, I would not bother to log in for only 15 minutes. By the time I reached my 5 stacks of NV and killed a few packs it would be time to go. Your idea to tie MF completely to NV, and have it stack to 50, would make it to where playing is only worthwhile if you can dedicate a couple of hours.
Being able to play here and there, whenever I could, was a big deal for D2. D3 is pulling away from that, but putting your idea in to the game would effectively end my D3 playing days.
I am fine with the paragon levels going account wide. I would love to be able to play my classes based on how I feel that day, not which one has the higher paragon level. Which is what you wanted to do with your system, but at the expense of being able to play for short amounts of time.
So again, thank you for making this thread. Thank you for your hard work, and I think most of your ideas are spot on.
I definitely enjoyed reading this, as I did your other threads.
The idea you have for your Gold Sink feels very Pay to Win, even though it's not the Auction House. You can simply find an item with the 6 affixes you want, and just upgrade it to perfection. That changes the hunt for items to be a "I found a perfect Mempo's for my [class]!" to "I found a Mempo's with the stats I want for my [class], lets go max it now!". You'll stop looking for items a lot quicker, and stop playing the game to enjoy the hunt for items as upgrades. Granted, there does still need to be a Gold Sink that isn't gems, but I don't think this is it.
The other thing I'm not a fan of is the way you suggest changing MF. Right now, I agree that being tied to a single character for MF sucks. Making it require that many additional stacks on lower MP would basically mean we run whole acts and not get to the cap. And since every other form of MF would have been removed, this is even worse than the current system in my opinion. At most, I play on MP4, so it'd take me 125 elite pack kills (not including item bonuses to increase stack gains) to cap out. I'm fairly certain I don't kill that many packs before I'm satisfied with an act, so I'd never get max MF and it would take even longer to gear up. I prefer a system that will reward you more for doing something that is more difficult. Although, I don't think it's more "difficult" in this game, it's something that hits harder and takes longer to kill. If there were new, challenging mechanics as you went up in MP, then it'd be more difficult. Right now, it's the same difficulty, just bigger numbers. I'd say go for something that's the same, as you suggest, across all MP for MF, but leave the increased drop rates for everything related to MP the same (keys, hellfire ring parts, etc) so that there's still a reason to play on higher MP
WoW just wow, it must have been long to make that post but you defenetly touch a lot of good point in that,
I like most of your comment on how to make D3 a little better. I'm a casual player that play around around 30min or 1 hour per day.
I just have to deagree with you about the MF (Magic find ) solution, I really like the way it work now comparing to yours. again I'm a casual player so getting max out in MF wouldn't be possible for me anytime and I would not enjoy D3 as you can by playing few hours.
your bag, well I like the idea of having more bag but not one bag just for the gem, you never gonna loot enough gem to fill it!
but I agree with everything else, more self found would be amazing and legendary more legendary.
I personnaly bought a lot of my stuff on the AH, not because I'm lazy. but because I have the option too lolol. yeah it make me away on gear comparing to what I have loot, but put a candy on a table in front of a kid and put a bowl with sugar so he can make is own candy, which one do you think he gonna pick up??
Lets hope some Dev will read this post and I'll push for it !!!!!
Excellent ideas, and while I may not agree with them all, they would ALL add more depth to the game. +1!
A thought came to mind when reading the internal item rarity section (sparkle beams). I'm an avid borderlands player (xbl) and in later content pushes for borderlands 2 they added another rarity tier to items. Perhaps instead of creating such stringent internal rarities amongst legendaries, why not add another tier of items, "angelic" for example? You could tie the cool skill runes and other amazingly cool properties to "angelic" items, and not drown out other legendaries. In my vision of a utopian diablo, these ultra rare, and guaranteed to be good items would be bind to account. To maybe tie this in without requiring another tier of item might be that existing legendaries have a chance to be "angelic" on drop (kinda like ethereal in diablo 2), and will spawn as a guaranteed good version of that item, maybe spawning with a skill rune or other incredible stat... But still be bind to account. This way you can add more variety AND have some rewards for actually finding your own gear.
Yes many many good ideas mentioned by MrMonstrosity. Hope blizzard sees this and consider implementing a few or hope it inspire them to implement something up their sleeves that is even better for the community.
For instance, the graphics on which item had possibly dropped with different graphics on it.
Also for the discovery e.g. the grandfather à increases wielding 2handed sword damage by 4% is quite restrictive I mean, would not that be like if I found a extremely good axe I would not want to change to have increases (rewards) for axe I would have to farm all the legendary axes. (but I get the idea its to increase ‘’quest’’/achievements to work towards)
Good suggestion for magic find. But not applicable towards players who could not afford to play long long long long hours a day. Maybe if the NV could be saved instead of removed after a 2 hours run in act 1. And when I play next, the monster that I killed DO NOT respawn and I continue on from there.
Gem versions are there for a purpose. Unless you are super season player. For a new player for instance, there is the sense of achievement for collecting and slowly upgrading the gem to a higher version. Yes it’s a tedious (almost endless process) but maybe if experience could be rewarded for crafting it might not seem too bad.
nice mention of the gold sink. Very good way to deplete gold. And lastly very hyped with the idea of skills on items. It would be kind of like in d2 where a barbarians helm could allow you to morph to a werewolf etc.
my 2 cents worth.
I feel that paragon levelling is good that it rewards magic find and gold find.
but comparatively to d2 the difference in levelling is the ability to grow more powerful with your character with skillpoints/statpoints.
I think a way to combat this be good if say skill books can be earned through quest similar to that like hellfire ring. Fighting ubers etc. (of cos only doable after completing inferno difficulty)
so what these skillbooks do is open up a 7 slot for skills. and it can only be for these 'skillbook skills' not for elective mode e.g. this 7 slot cannot be for primary/secondary/defensive/terror/decay/voodoo if it’s a witch doctor.
e.g. Barbarian Frost Behemoth
->summons a frost dragon
--->skill runes for it could be different ice spells like frost nova/blizzard etc Strength of Bul'Kathos
-> gains increase X% lifesteal for X seconds
---> skill runes for it could be with other bonuses
Monk Swift Saber
-> summons a sabertooth
--->skill runes for it could be different lightning spells like chain lighting etc Inna’s inner energy
-> gains increase critical damage % for X seconds
---> skill runes for it could be with other bonuses
Wizard Phoenix
-> summons a fiery phoenix
--->skill runes for it could be different fire like mortar etc Tal Rasha’s Last Will
-> arcane resource becomes unlimited for X seconds
---> skill runes for it could be with other bonuses
Witch Doctor Advanced summoning (I might be abit bias here. But it’s the class I play a lot)
-> summons 2 gargantuan or gives gargantuan a plague aura
-> improves dogs to wolves (higher CD and CC)
-> increases corpse spiders thrown
-> doubles the handful toads
-> firebats have increase casting speed
-> hex (improves abilities of runes e.g. hedge magic heals higher)
-> fetish army (last longer)
-> big bad voodoo (increase radius)
--->skill runes be any of the mentioned Zunimassa’s Blessing
-> for X second a clone of you will cast certain spells together with you
---> skill runes for it could be with other bonuses
Demon Hunter Mystic Stag
-> summons an arcane stag
--->skill runes for it could be different arcane skills like arcane sentry from champions etc Natalya’s Shadow
-> for X second you gain X% attack speed and X% movement speed
---> skill runes for it could be with other bonuses
Lastly, a rough estimate of the patch for loot 2.0 would be dec. given that blizzcon is in nov.
Rarity/Drop rates: I agree that sometimes finding a legendary item is not as great as it could be, since most of them are not that great, but adding different sparkling beams will only make the more common the new yellow ones. It would be different if they show something else like they have some extra feature that will not modify its power but it would make them more unique.
Rewarding the hunt: this is idea is really cool and I always wanted something like this to be on the game. In regards of people selling them (the UI legendaries) the "self found" tag would solve it as other people suggested. But I think that adding buff can be even more awesome. Imagine that having certain achievements unluck different buffs but you can only have one active at a time. So as you progress on the game you'll unluck new achievements and new buff combinations will also be unluck so there you have and open window to add more customisation.
In-game journals with info about special items: This is a cool idea and I really liked it but I think that finding journals as drops it would be even more awesome. Le'ts say you find the journal about the "Grandfather", that journal will tell you about the sword and how it was lost, so that you now that this sword is somewhere around but only after you find the sword the info will be outdate with a cool image of the sword and more info about it. This also makes me think that we should have a room with all of our treasure to show to the world what thinks we found, like a treasure room whe you can show all of the things you've found and all the achievements you've unlucked. In that room there wiil be weapon racks with the legendary weapons you've found and all the things you want to show, like sets, things you crafted, etc.
Magic Find: I'm not sure about this, I kind of like it but I'm not sure if it is the real solution. Maybe if they add something like 15 min after you logged out to give you time to choose another act or just the same one, but I'm still don't think this is the solution.
Crafting/Slavaging: I like this idea but I don't like to force people into getting the right materials to create the item you want. After watching all the different brimstones you created I got the idea of them giving you some particular add to your item like something more of the asethitic point of view and not related with "power". What if you want to have a weapon that is on fire? or with ice particles? you just grab a brimstone of ice and you add it to your recipe to give it that extra touch.
Separate inventories: I agree with this and as you said it would be really welcome.
Gems: I like the variaton that they currently have but I think more of them should have a chance to drop on inferno from Mp1 to Mp10.
Mystic: What if there is a new kind of legendary? the ones that you create with enough effort to become more of a new kind of legendary but that you will have to rename and will obviusly be account-bound. This item will have its name in purple and it will have different types of degrees as you add to it more things. btw this is just a quick thought.
Legendaries: Yeah I really like this idea and I hope Blizzard pay a look at it.
Well great work MrMonstrosity I really enjoy reading your ideas! keep up the great work!
edit: sorry If I make any mistake writting or if it's not clear to understand. English is not my native language and I'm still learning.
Is this really all it takes to convince the masses? People are yelling about the 2nd coming and how this would fix the game... really?
NONE of these changes will make the game a longterm success or add much(any) depth to it.
Don't worry, blizzard will make sure that any loot improvements are made on their own terms and not be led
astray by what the masses on a diablo-based forum consider "fun".
Wow this post was great, I hope Blizz just copies/pastes this into their patch notes and throws it all in. Heck even the separate tabs in your inventory is genius.

Everything costs millions of gold to buy and (potentially craft).
Playing MP8 plus and WW speed farming like a mad man I still only make like 500k in ... a few hours?
Do you know how long it would take to make that amount of money?
Why not add to this proposal an increase in gold which drops for those who actually farm and don't play the AH?
That way the economy would actual move a bit more.
