I am currently paragon 601. Have farmed, grouped, traded everything I can do. Have pushed grift 48 solo. Cannot go any further due to RNG getting an ancient weapon. Not only is it practically impossible to get a ceremonial knife, but even harder to get a dagger of darts. And then god forbid I get an ancient one. I run a buddy through a rift just starting out. he is paragon 2. He gets an ancient mind blowing Serpent's sparker. Very happy for him. Want to go further but can't. Getting tired. Have 3 billion gold to spend on nothing. The grind continues...
So you dont realy need ancient weapon to push top 10 ..
i know you wont be able to compete in the end of the season with a non ancient weapon, people might be doing 60 + on the Witch Doctor.
So i think you are doing somthing wrong ... 48 is a complete joke
anyways i guess we just have to keep farming for that ancient DoD
we still have a lot of time to grind this season
Good luck and dont give up !
Awesome job Karib...obviously a hell more talented than I am lol. I'm getting too old for this crap. 46 years old and going to game until I die!! Would be nice if they implemented an ancient vendor. Turn in 5 normal weapons that you need and get an ancient one. Just food for thought. Love this game so much...can't stop now!!
I feel your pain, i almost deleted my wd today but decided to change his spec, giving up on a dod. Im not picky just want any so i can use a wd at 40+.
50k+ shards later and playing the gimped wd all day, i gave up.
I did get an ancient woh on my 10 hour wiz who can solo 45 now but those daggers are way too rare. Wd is as hard to gear as a good crusader (needs shield). Other classes need 1 super rare drop to work, we need 2.
The main problem is our 1 hope costs 75 bloods instead of 25 like other items that are easy to get from drops.
Agree with you m8, i have stopped playing seasons now, it aint fun anymore, same grind over and over again, oh yeah we get a pennant and a few new more legendarys every fresh season, is it worth it? asnwer: NO! its not worth it. what about giving us some new acts, rewamp all gears fresh new looks, new maps, d3 is getting old now, the saltyness is taking over
While I don't like seasons myself (I even hate season only legendaries, if someone wants a reset, they can do it, don't punish me for not wanting to reset), what you are asking is an expansion.
They shipped the game, and you can play it. They could have ended it. Instead, they keep adding items, features, "new" maps (more maps in rifts now, and they felt new to me), ...
I don't know how much you played the game, but for me it was the cheapest game I've ever bought, if you calculate price per hour played. I'm pretty bored of it as well now, and I would welcome the things you ask for, but I don't expect it.
PS: ROS was 1 act, 1 class and the rifts/grifts (reused maps). Expecting new acts as a patch is a bit much compared to that
I do not feel your pain, this is a game of grinding, you either have fun grinding towards something or having fun using what you grinded.
Now you have the possibility to compete with other players, 48 is a joke for a softcore WD like someone said earlier. Maybe you should try to improve your build, tactic or gameplay in general, you can always have fun that way.
Coming here to share how unlucky you are is just not productive at all, go outside, be with your partner/friends or find some if you do not happen to have any, crying on the forums wont help you.
The truth is the truth. Just frustrated. I will grind until the cows come home. As far as 48 being a joke with sub par gear......maybe to some people....but it's the highest I've achieved for my skill level (which isn't very skilled!) My moment of self pity has left the building and I will continue playing a game that I love. Might check out the new POE beta though! Good luck to all and I'll stop crying...for now!

You have to remember most of the people saying this are being carried by zdps, not soloing
Look at some of their profiles, rocking 55+ but hasnt solo'd 40 yet

Well if that is the case Chadwx I've done 58 with zerodps in the group. Thanks for backing me up!
It might be RNG but it is exactly as the DEvs commanded to be. They can easily increase the rate on weapons required for certain build. But they wont....
Exactly my point. It is a design choice to rely on RNG to reward (or screw) the players. Honestly it is a double edged sword. Part of what makes this game so compelling is the possibility that you will beat the odds and get an amazing drop. But on the other hand it can result in deep frustration as there is no promice that your efforts will be rewarded, and I can't help but feel it is lazy design to rley so heavily on RNG to create replayability.
I think there needs to be a balance between guaranteed rewards and RNG (luck) and I think they currently rely too much on RNG. However, if they were to change the game to have less RNG they would also need to make some significant design changes to other components of the game. Honestly that is not going to happen, not to Diablo 3. Maybe Diablo 4 will have better and more reliable progression/scaling that is less locked to RNG, I live in hope. I still think this is a great game, you just have to accept that it is what it is, a giant lotto machine with a fantasy role playing coat of paint.
I also think it is mind bogglingly absurd how useless gold is for the end game. The *only* reason I still collect it (in great amounts) is to earn experience when I'm farming for rift keys (Boon of Hoarder+Custarian wristguards+averice band=lots of free experience with minimal effort). But for gods sake Blizzard, give us something we can use all this gold for!!! Off the top of my head, why not allow us to pay Kadala to improve the odds when we gamble?!? That seems like a reasonable way to reward us for all the gold we have farmed..
or alternatively, why not allow us to pay the blacksmith to make modest upgrades to one specific stat on our existing gear? ie. same kind of rule as to when we reroll an item -we can only nominate one stat and we are locked into it nce we choose it. They could make the cost scale exponentially so that to pay to improve a stat to it's max limit would cost an enormous amount. I honestly think there are reasonable solutions to reducing RNG in the game without removing it entirely.
If they ruined drop rates back to RoS release or even D3V 2.0 loot levels and brought back trading it'd be great...unfortunately they don't want third-party bots and chinese making mad stacks.

In it's current state, the game is 99.9% reliant on RNG. The only guaranteed drops in the game right now is the Reaper's Wraps plan from Malthael and the Leoric's Crown from Skeleton King. You could also probably say that Hellfire ring/amu is a "guaranteed drop" as it's targeted farming.
The problem with implementing guaranteed drops is this: If it's easy to obtain, everyone will have it, like the RW plan. If it's difficult to obtain, as in you need to gear specifically for it (Torch charm in D2 uber tristram) it will only become yet another demotivational factor for all the players that are unable to obtain it. Regardless of how it's implemented, it will always feel like a chore. Tedious, but required if you want to compete. Much like RoRG farming pre 100% T6 leg chance and we all know how utterly boring that was.
As for the topic:
I strongly believe that ancient weaponry is a broken mechanic. Not only because of the huge powerjump from NA to A, but mostly because it's such a demotivational factor for many players. I have given this many thoughts, and the only viable solution I came up with was to remove ancient weaponry, and buff weapons approx. 50% of what the diff between NA to A is today. Another aspect about ancient weaponry is that it goes against blizzard's own philosophy on item drops. They (especially Josh Mosquiera) have always said that they want players to feel excited when they see a desireable item drop on the ground. Right now, I believe most players are lik "meh" when they see a leg wand or leg daibo drop. You can often immediately see if it's your build-defining BiS weapon, but still most people I play with are like "another flying D (identify), nah, not ancient, salvage". Instead, according to blizzard, they should've said "WOAHHHHHH A FLYING D BOYS. ITS A FLYING DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD".
With that said however, NA weaponry isn't necessarily the make it or break it factor. I've got an ancient SS and some pretty decent gear. On par with a lot of wizards that are >150 on the EU leaderboards. Still, I simply cannot get past GR 52. Why? Because I obviously suck and need to l2p. Players with non-ancient SSs and overall lower statrolled gear than me have finished GRs 3-4 lvls higher than me. I even rolled a GR 54 full of dust eaters, ravenous dead and other high-progress, low threat monsters and still failed!

I feel your pain. RNG can be cruel
I'm paragon 712 and haven't found a golden flense yet. The RNG in the game is rather exhausting.

Just to throw salt on the wound; My buddy found TWO ancient DoD's before he was paragon 400.

I'm still looking for a DoD non season and finally went Mask of Jeram full pet build until I see one drop.

I just wish there were other viable builds post 50+ besides DOD and ZDPS... :/

I got 2 over the weekend, this being the best one...
I'll probably never use it though, since I'm after either an ancient Fate of the Fell or Mortal Drama, which I can't find to save my life.
