So Blizzard won't be changing the colour scheme. That much is definite.
Do you think it would be better for this web site if we just stopped the bickering and got on with being positive about D3?
Or would it be better to allow ourselves to be torn apart by those who wish to campaign against Blizzard?
Why don't we call a truce?
NOTE: I have fixed the above link. This is definitely the very recent discussion with Jay Wilson in response to 52,000 signatures. The previous link was from four weeks prior. My apologies.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
According to the article the interview was after 52,000 people had signed the petition so I'd date it much much more recent than that. The interview took place in a Manhattan hotel - not over in Paris. This is VERY recent news.
But yes, I do expect the usual cadre of trolls will latch onto this thread
But I repeat myself: Let's call a truce?

I'm starting to wonder if there are two groups of people who are critical of all the vibrant colors in D3. Because one group (the one I don't find myself relating to) complain about the colors of the landscapes, environmental effects, and dungeons, etc. These things about the game so far do not really bother me. And I understand what that guy in the game was saying about variety in locations. I think that's an admirable goal.
As for the second group (I find myself in this obviously) is largely okay with the backgrounds, environments, etc. But what bugs us is the look of the armor, weapons, and even a few spells. What I can't stand in video games these days, and I swear it's like in any other game now, is the light tracer effect when a weapon is swung. Every single weapon now seems to glow and has a light tracer on it.
The thing about WoW and Warcraft 3 is that the universe it is set in seems so filled to the brim with magical forces, that even their food glows with a colorful aura. It seems like in Warcraft that magic is never scarce and you could keep a +2 fire damage weapon on fire all day long without this having any depreciating effect on the magic or the degradation of the weapon.
In D1 and D2, when you hit someone with a fire weapon, that's when you see the environmental effect. When you hit someone with a lightning weapon, only upon striking do you see the electrical discharge.
But in WoW, everything seems like it's constantly brimming with magic and elemental forces. So much that it feels like the entire world is going to transcend a corporeal world, and become this ethereal place. And these are the things that bother me about the art direction in Diablo 3. Super glowing objects that never cease, that burn my retinas and make the world of Sanctuary seem more akin to Azeroth and all its other dimensions.
To be honest, they can make all the rainbows, waterfalls (someone is actually complaining about waterfalls?), and tulip fields they want. Those things are realistic. They exist. But even in a world of magic, things like glowing weapons and glowing health and mana orbs scattered about, seem like something that really should be in moderation.
I hope this Keith Lee understands that many of us are more sensible about the colors in Diablo 3. But he does not even mention the way magical weapons and other items appear in the game. Or why he feels there should be light tracers on a simple regular melee weapon. Just watch the gameplay trailer before they upgrade the Barb's weapons. Even then they appear too magical in nature. These are the kinds of aesthetics that bother me about D3. Not the way a sunny day looks outside.

Ty for that insightful post XD
I now have a new view on the matter and agree with what your saying about the glow. That certainly is unlike the series we all know.

Sorry, but I haven't really discussed the colors much until this point. I've always felt this way about it. And reading that interview you linked to compelled me to respond. Because it's as if Lee thinks that the only complaints about the vibrant colors is geared toward the environments and locations. And I think it's just as important to note that there are other vibrant colors in the game worth discussing still. Such as those of the weapons and health and mana orbs.
Some people have registered on this forum merely to complain about the art direction. And now I feel like saying something about it. And truce doesn't seem like the right word as much as compromise. But for me, I'm not compromising because I never had a problem with how most of the game looks. I just am not a bit fan of the player equipment and combat visuals.
Wilson also assured me that the environments will get darker as the game progresses (what’s out now are early stages of the game), and the team is still in the process of “smattering the world with dead bodies and horrific skeletons and things like that” along the way.
In other words, progressively more green and blue will be seen. At least they're adding bodies and "horrific" skeletons.
I love it when people say "you've only seen 1% of the game" ... guess what, the art direction does not change from level to level.
I also love it when people say "turn down the brightness" ... guess what, the style of the game can't be changed with a gamma/brightness slider. Ie the childish/cartoony color effects of skills, movement of characters, etc.
Gotta love when people say wait for the game to come out.. great idea, why didn't I think of this?
Basically what they are saying is "If you find anything you don't like in the game, be quiet, don't express your opinions, and go away."

Nice way to suppress people's opinions.
Because, every zone from Act 1 to Act 5 has the same art and color scheme. OH WAI-
D3 will have a large variety of environments, colors, themes, and lighting, just like D2. Which is obvious even before Wilson talked about it in the article.
Truce? What are you talking about? Do you want people to say "Now that Blizzard says they're not changing it, I accept the new art direction, now lets stop talking about it and accept it"?
That's not a truce, but more like asking people to deny their thoughts, kiss ass and join the caravan.
Graphics discussion has so cheesy, everyone's picking on tiny little details. Oh the boots are too big, the gloves aren't dark enough, that table looks cartoony, why is that barbarian wearing an armor, the weapons are too flashy it looks ethereal and why is there demons in the game it makes look like WoW, blablabla.
I think I'll give myself a stretch and go straight back to bed until someone comes up with more interesting discussion or Blizzard decides to release more info.

On the gfx i think it looks how it should look, i don't want to running around in the same Grey monotone environments all the damn time.
I don't believe this bullshit for a second, and I suggest you do the same.
I dunno why would MTV lie like that?
