So we donate money for a random guy we never met IRL to go to a Invintational that may or may not have information about the game this community is designed around? Yup, lots of logic in that.
Thirded. Or fourthed. Whichever.
Like others have said, other gaming sites are pretty much guaranteed to be there, so information will be readily available after the event. Besides, if I had the extra money laying around, I'd be sending myself to Paris.
Payment by credit card only right? that counts me out even if I wanted too.
Though I wish our friend MD the best of luck, hopefully he somehow manages to snag some info that other people don't get.
Out of curiosity let's say you were involved in a spout of Online Dating, would you pay for the other's person's bus ticket or plane ticket so you could met them or would you make them pay. I guess paying to send MD to WWI is essentially the same thing. You converse with them about a whole host of topics, you have similar interests/tastes, just minus the e-sex of course, err in most cases, I assume.

ROFL!!! Omg man, I laughed so hard when I read that. Oh man. Wow. I needed that laugh. Thankyou so much.
But yea, hypothetically I would say the man should pay. >.>

Well, I never imagined LarryNC would open a thread for this. I appreciate it. Thanks. On to LinkX: You don't see much of what's going on backstage. Blizzard is contacting fansites to find out how many are going to WWI. I gave one of the WWI tickets assigned as a courtesy to fansites to Kazo.
He was the guy who interviewed Richard A. Knaak at the IstroCon 2007 in Slovakia back on October. Knaak answered many of the questions submited by diablo3.com. I think most of you got to read them before I had to edit out some of the questions on ummm request.
As for me, Nethaera told me She and Karune had been talking about me, and wanted to know if I was going to WWI. Take in mind I had already told them Kazo was going on behalf of Blizzplanet. So I found it curious they were still insisting if I was going.
I answered that I am not going because I can't afford the trip and side-expenses associated. Karune suggested I asked for donations. That idea had not even crossed my mind prior to that. In fact, I wasn't even thinking of going to WWi. So there you go, I posted on my site, and only in my site, for donations. I am kinda shy when asking for donations so I didn't post that anywhere else.
I do appreciate that LarryNC donated some money to sponsor my trip, and that LarryNC posted this thread here. And appreciate those who may have donated thus far. Will there be an announcement? Will it be something Diablo?
I am not 100% certain, to be honest. I have heard and seen some three red alert things going on in the past 24 hours, but nothing certain. I don't wanna go shouting about it because it would suck if nothing is announced after hypeing up there would be an announcements. So I am playing safe.
One thing you can be sure of. Blizzard esteems my work in the past five years. And I will be meeting them face to face if I go to WWI. Remember. It was Nethaera (WoW CM) and Karune (Starcraft CM) who asked if I was going to WWI. Kazo already paid for a 3-bed room in case I get to go to WWI. 25 minutes walk from the Event. We will get video and photos. And fansites will be meeting up with developers. I can't promise much besides covering as much info as possible. Specially, if what we all hope happens gets to happen.
By the way LinkX. This random guy is probably becoming staff member of this very website soon. =)
And Blizzplanet is hosted for the past two years courtesy of ... diablo3.com
Edit: Diablo3.com isn't going to WWI. However, because there is a possibility that I might be able to go, and since I was nicely asked to join the news/content staff, I would be representing Diablo3.com in the event a diablo game is announced, and posting myself in the front page any details.
Umaro just asked me to tell you Blizzplanet is considered a sister site of diablo3.com
Medievaldragon (1:49 PM): Hi. hope it is no problem to say I might be staff of the site.
Umaro (1:50 PM): thats fine and tell him blizzplanet is a sister site of diablo3.com
UPDATE March 24: I still need to wait until Monday, March 31st. Apparently I may have a flight ticket to go to WWI Paris covered. Hotel is covered. Donations would go to cost food, Paris bus (airport-to-hotel and back) and Local transportation (bus from home-to-local-airport and back). And whatnot.
This has taken me off-guard. I haven't even prepared an estimate of what I might be spending. I need to send a few emails and communicate with some contacts. Once I get a reply, I will be able to research the total costs.
For now, Hotel costs are covered with Kazo registering a 3-beds room. I have to think about the two-way flight, the train to the airport going in and returning (Last time I went to the airport I recall the train costed around $15 one-way. And that was almost a decade ago. Of course, that depends which airport I need to visit. That one was very distant. I have two airports closer), food, camera film or memory sticks in the event my sister borrows her digital camera. And maybe some extra cash to bribe a dev into .. coughs, nevermind that.
Kazo is taking a video camera and a laptop with him.
B: even if i did have money or a steady income, i would rather save up to go to the WWI myself than send you, no offense.
I find it intriguing to get this type of responses.
1. I did not post this thread.
2. I had no plans to ask for donations in this forum.
3. I asked for donations at Blizzplanet, and I did as a suggestion by Karune. I am shy and don't dare to ask for donations for myself. Only if it's for someone else.
4. This thread is about those who have the good will and, of course, the extra money to give away.
5. I doubt this thread is for people to say sorry I can't donate. It is pointless.
On another note, just a hint. Last year I gave away 100 Burning Crusade Beta keys to fans via contest.
I will probably give away some Wrath of the Lich King, Starcraft 2 and ... any other unannounced games's beta keys at some point. I have a large fanbase who kindly emails me good-will messages as a thanks for my work.
Diablo3.com isn't an official registered fansite (as far as I know). However, as I said earlier ... Umaro invited me yesterday to join the Diablo3.com news/content staff. As a matter of fact, he had invited me two years ago, but to be officially executed as soon as certain time arrived. That time seems to be nearing. I will join this website's staff in the next weeks.
Thus, You bet I will attempt to register this community into the Diablo Fansites Program. Which means this site will be given the privilege of giving away Beta Keys of a yet unannounced Diablo game to visitors of "this community". One of those winners could be "you" (the reader of this thread).
By the way, I know of at least one website who became the first registered member of the Diablo III Fansites Program. Say whoa?
Ok, I try to be nice. I really do. But enough of this freaking guilt trip. We know you didn't ask us for the money. We know that. So enough freaking shoving that down our throats. Mmk?
Next, whatever you find out will trickle down all the other news sites. I understand that you will "Represent" Diablo3.com, but honestly, if any one member here could go they could "Represent" Diablo3.com.
Next, we don't know you IRL. That, for me at least, throws up a red flag. If you want to attack me for pointing that out, fine. I am hated by other people on this site as well. But I point out what I see. If you don't want something to be pointed out, don't let it be known ffs.
Also, don't be pulling the "Those that have good will" bullshit, because that is what it is. Bullshit. If I have the money I sure as hell ain't sending you, I'm going myself. And no, that doesn't make me a bad person.
And lastly, if you wanted to go in the first place, why the hell did you give your ticket to this "Kazo" fellow, especially if your so privilaged on getting information. That, to me at least, sounds like a stupid move.
The airfare is going to be the most expensive thing by far. Like... I'm thinking a couple thousand bucks - especially since it's during the high season for tourism.
And lastly, if you wanted to go in the first place, why the hell did you give your ticket to this "Kazo" fellow, especially if your so privilaged on getting information. That, to me at least, sounds like a stupid move.
I didn't give "my" ticket to Kazo. We both can go.
The difference is that I had told Blizzard I wasn't going because certainly I can't afford it at this point in time. I was given the suggestion to request for sponsors among "Blizzplanet" community. I did.
Again, LarryNC posted this thread. Not me. If you don't wish to donate, That's fine. No one is forcing you. Donations are given by free will and by good will.
I didn't give "my" ticket to Kazo. We both can go.
Except you said:

But then again, you could just of given something away that doesn't belong to you. Which would be worse in my opinion. But thats just me.

I don't plan on donating. Information will get to me eventually. Been eight fucking years, I can wait a little longer.

Enough of the fucking guilt trip. Enough! I am a good person, but I don't have to "prove it" by giving a random guy online money to go to Paris to get information for me that I can get FOR FREE. So yea, what I am saying is enough of the guilt trip.
Honestly Linkx if you don't want to help that's fine, but littering this thread with the type of posts you've been making doesn't do anyone any good. We understand your position - there's nothing left to discuss in that regard.
I'm curious about one thing though. If you can't afford the trip. And people don't donate enough to you. What do you do with the donations you did receive? Or since you've already received some donations are you going to try and cover the expenses anyways?

I'd rather send Medieval to Paris.
