I don't see how there is a difference. If something is unrealistic, it's just unrealistic. "more" or "less" don't really apply here.
Quote from "Ablationer" »
why some time ago?
Because Diablo II is an old game?
Quote from "Ablationer" »
why disfunctional?
It takes time. You can't know if you are full or not without actually opening the inventory. You have to open it, move stuff around, and then put something else in, and then maybe finally TP, or not. It takes extra time for no reason whatsoever.
Quote from "Ablationer" »
it's not disfunctional, it works perfectly,
Well, I'm glad you love tetris.
Quote from "Ablationer" »
what's disfunctional is when every item takes the same amount of space
Are you sure you understand the definition of the term "functional"? Are you sure you are not confusing it with, say, "realistic"?
Quote from "Ablationer" »
if for you Diablo is just click the attack button, then why don't you play something else?
I did not say that, and please have more respect than accuse people you don't know of random idiotic claims. The inventory system is not in any way related to fighting in Diablo.
Quote from "Ablationer" »
part of the game is to manage your inventory, to organise your set-up, to get prepared for the battle,
No it's not. How do you prepare for battle? You put on rings, get charms, get potions. None of that needs the tetris system. If there are some other ways of getting prepared for battle please tell me. The tetris system only affects gathering and trading. Not fighting.
Quote from "Ablationer" »
do you think warriors just wake up and go randomly killing stuff? no they get prepared before, and then go to the battlefield, that's what Diablo is
That's what DIABLO is? Go play Witcher and see how to prepare for monsters. You don't prepare for anything in Diablo. You get items and improve them and then you get more items and you go on like that. There is nothing intelligent about Diablo. Of course, if it's the only game you played...
Quote from "Ablationer" »
no, do you remember spending time doing the same thing over and over just to get a specific rare or unique or whatever item you'd look for in Diablo?
No, what does that have to do with the tetris system?
Quote from "Ablationer" »
i sure don't, no such things as Baal runs or whatever in Diablo, nobody ever said something like "let's go kill this because it drops a set of items" in Diablo
What does that have to do with the tetris system?
Quote from "Ablationer" »
yes it does, because it makes survival into just greedyness, instead of "pick what you can" it becomes, "pick what you want" since every item just takes the same space, it doesn't matter anymore what's the item in question
It doesn't matter neither in Diablo I, nor Diablo II, nor in a game with slot system. You can pick up every single item you want. You can even pick up the non-magical items if you are totally greedy. Your only limitation is town portals. Which are cheap. This has nothing, NOTHING to do with the Tetris system.
Did you see the inventory in the gameplay video? It doesn't have that many slots. There isn't much stuff that you can carry. In fact, it looks like it would allow to carry as much as Diablo I and II did.
I really don't care that much. There should be some kind of limit on how many items you can carry, be it one-item-per-slot, or D2 tetris style, or Oblivion weight style. But does it really matter? Does it have that much effect on your gaming experience? I think I'd prefer one-item-per-slot just and stacking because I gained fewer gray hairs in Guild Wars than in D2 over just the inventory.

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
I say it should be tetris and a weight limit that slightly effects your movement speed or something
And must I clarify that the weight limit should not be so limiting that it takes away from the game?
Must I clarify that tetris does not mean less room, they can always expand the inventory
1 item one slot is gay, it just makes the game boring
Why not have items be stackable and make the tetris squares smaller.
Problem solved.
Also screen resolution is much higher these days meaning they can fit more on-screen.
Stackable potions and simple items is a must. Also very probable.

I must agree that the old system, realistic or not, just feels better. An "auto organize" button is alright to combat the tetris issue, but the fact that you can carry as many sets of armor as you can sheets of paper does not make much sense.
I was surprised WoW did not have something like auto-organize buttons in their menus, but the update of TitanQuest or maybe it was its' expansion definitely had a feature like that.
It worked wonders and cleared up that space quickly.
With space being always a problem once its filled up TitanQuest allowed your character to carry more based upon level, which is a great idea instead of buying more and more bags.
I hate the bag system.

I like the Tetris style inventory too.... Additionally, I'd like to see them bring item weight into it. If not tetris style, at least do weight, so there is some realism.
No it won't kill the game, but it won't be the same game anymore. Can you understand the difference, I think you can't.
This pretty line much describes what he's fighting for. Diablo 2 is 8 years ago, Diablo 3 =/= Diablo 2. It's time for improvements, it's time to innovate, get over it. I'd rather be able to pick up all my items and keep fighting (they planned this i.e. the health orbs/globe drop thing) than to stop after every boss fight to freakin rearrange my inventory so everything can fit..

Tetris inventory was stupid, with all the potions, scrolls, charms, maybe some backup/MF gear... you could pick up 1 to 2 items before you were full....

"If we're actually making the game worse with no other reason than to be different from WoW, then it's a bad choice." - Jay Wilson (D3 lead designer)
Made you have to weigh out importance of items/charms compared to the space they took up.
Ahhh yes, charms.... There's a dynamic many haven't been discussing. If you have a bottomless inventory, how then do you deal with the charm situation? Do you scrap it? Hmm... I rather liked the idea of being ultra powerful at the expense of being able to pick stuff up. Again, it makes you think and challenges you to make decisions. It's these decisions that make Diablo such a fun RPG. Just like permanent attribute choices... it's Diablo! ROOTS! To compare to the MMO WoW, just because everyone seems to like doing so, they made those decisions less necessary. IN doing so, they made that game less like Diablo. That's fine, for THAT game. But not for D.
My thought (simplified):
** Tetris system for personal inventory. (Keep those important decisions; at least until you decide to make a TP )
** Bottomless (or nearly so) inventory for stash/bank/vault.
Eliminate the need for Mules AND keep the game real, and true to the roots. W3rd.

With the way of having 2 weapons sets, couldn't they introduce 2 or 3 different armor sets on the character that don't take up your inventory. Surely there is PvE and PvP gear for everyone and this Diablo's MagicFind gear equivalent.

Does anyone REALLY care about this? Lets be honest, inventory tetris is just an annoyance. Something to stop you from killing. I for one hated having to do it and then my party would go on and i'd have to catch up.
It's ridiculous people saying "it's more realistic" as well. This is DIABLO. A world when demons and fucking zombies run around. It's not realistic.
For a reasoning human being, its undeniable that the tetris inventory in Diablo definitively added depth to the game. Whether you consciously understood it or not, you enjoyed playing Diablo because of its implications.
I'm not saying they have to do it the same exact way, but I am saying that they should be sure to do it in a way that is conducive to making sure obtaining loot is more enjoyable on a deeper level.
For the fast clicker who is fighting with a bunch of friends, when they down a boss he will be able to pick up everything the boss drops with a "1 slot per item" inventory, leaving everybody else dumbfounded as to where all the loot went. You won't get the same satisfaction of being able to laugh at the person who blindly picked up a few crappy items in a clicking fury only to get to, say... a Shako that flips up into the air to fall back down graciously at your feet for the taking, as the unfortunate furious clicker hears those three heartbreaking words "I am overburdened."
What sucks for the furious clicker is that he could have had the space but his bags weren't packed right.. but he'll be back for more; with the prize he practically tasted as it was snatched from under his nose, he'll be back.
Thats entertainment you can't buy my friends. ..err I guess we did...

I think gameplay will be greatly improved if you could carry a lot more....
I think the bags at the bottom of the inventory screens are carry bags...giving you 4 inventory screens and thus ability to carry alot....!
I find it very annoying in D2 when most of the inventory is filled with charms and you gotta make rounds to town to keep your loot..
Then you realise your stash is full and u're like ARGH
