And how are they stupid. Weekly updates to the game to make it more enjoyable and solid is stupid? Wanting to play with people that are actually mature is stupid?
If the game's done right the first time, it doesn't NEED weekly updates.
For the most part, age can be a good way to determine maturity. Sure there are exceptions, but like I said a majority of kids are inmature. WoW is an example. Its crazy to believe that a monthly fee would not rat out atleast some of them. I dont mind paying a few bucks a month for a better gaming experience.
And the 15 bucks a month for wow go towards better servers and the development on content. Why not pay and get regular updates on items, bosses, levels, etc instead of waiting months for the next patch
The bottom line is, you live with your parents and you go out every weekend, and here you are, telling everyone how to spend their hard-earned cash.
Say it's after Christmas, like December 27th, I'm playing GTA 4. I'm having a blast, but eventually I get tired of it, and I want to do something else. So I decide to pop in Diablo 3, play that for a while. But wait! I have to pay $5! I might as well just wait 'till next month to play. It's not like $5 is going to ruin me, but why pay $5 for up to four days of gaming?
One I'm trying to say is - paying money is a barrier to me playing.
And plus, $5 every month equals $60 a year, and that's a lot. A game should cost $60 or so, plus episodic content, expansion packs, plugins, new campaigns, etc., over its entire life. Not $60 a year.
So I think this is a terrible idea.

Err, well, that's not how billing works, dude... if you pay for a month, you get a month. You'd be charged from Dec 27th to Jan 27th. So, I fail to see where you are going with that.
Otherwise, I agree, it's not about the money, it's about the trend of video games. Diablo 3 will not be an epic MMO, why should we pay for it as though it were?
Blizzard has enough money, monthly fee would be insulting and probably make me not want to play it. I'm not wasting my money paying for pay2play games. Especially if it doesn't have werewolves in it.
Kids still infest p2p games, and they do it in luxury by their parent's credit cards. Since they don't have to work for that money their online even more then us. ;/ So doesn't matter. We all know parents don't protect their kids from M rated games and never take responsibility for what their kids do and just blame it on the gaming companies~ You can't escape the wrath of the immature.

Oh, my bad... but still, I might only want to play for a few days before school starts again, and then I'll stop playing

Flagship Studios already tried the monthly fee for a hack n slash " Hellgate:London ", It did not work out to well, it caused tons and tons of arguments among Subscribers and Non-Subscribers prior to release. FSS ended up giving half of the Subscriber features to Non-Subscribers due to major technical problems with the subscription model having to do with transitions between the credit card payer and destination. Months Later FSS has not been able to keep up with their content they said they would and frequenty another thread pops up with angered Subscribers posting in the Forums. A monthly fee for a Hack N Slash is quite funny, and will just cause Rucus.

They're obviously not going to make you pay, if they did they wouldn't make nearly as much money as they would if it were free. This isn't an mmo, and those who say "Well if we pay we'll get weekly updates just like WoW!"
WoW is an mmo it requires weekly updates to prevent exploits, cheaters, and the occasional addition. If they didn't fix the exploits and such then it would eventually become a large scale problem and they'd lose a lot of customers. Diablo 3 isn't that large scale, and it isn't a massive world with everyone on one map.
So in conclusion doubt they'll be a Subscription fee.
Hellgate didn't fail because of its monthly fee, it failed because of numerous problems with suscribers, bugs, exploits, but also because (IMO) it was short, had a bad story, poor classes with lame skills, poor universe, overall poor gameplay, and the content was pretty summed up by what you see on all the released screenshots and vids.
But it didn't fail because of its monthly fee. Bad exemple.
Hellgate didn't fail at FIRST because of its monthly fee. It failed for all of your listed reasons.
Hellgate fails NOW because of its monthly fee. The content released in no way justifies a ten-dollar a month subscriber fee. I play it now (the castrated "free" version), but I gave up my subscription after 3 months because it just wasn't worth it.
1. Keep the kiddies out. I am tired of 14 year old punks ruining my gaming experience. With a monthly fee, that is payable by credit card not game card, it would get rid of a lot of immaturity and would result in a better game. The game is rated M for a reason. Go watch your bob the builder and leave the gaming to the adults, thanks.
I have to comment on your first reason. Kids have parents. Parents have credit cards. There's a lot of 14 year old punks on WoW and thats a monthly-fee game. You probably never touched a game until you were 18. Lets face it, we were all kids. Leave the gaming to adults? Adults should be at work supporting there families financially if you want to be stereotypical.
By the time D3 Releases, blizzard should earn enough to update the game every now and then.
I been lurcking around this forum for about a week and finally registered. I just wanted to add my thoughts in about this. Read before you flame please.
There are many reasons I would like there to be a monthly fee, or at least wouldn't mind it.

2. If blizzard plans to regularly update this game like wow, then I don't mind one bit paying for the content. It would give extra money to blizz for new enhancements and whatnot. We were all complaining about how d2 hardly ever got updated. Well, why should they when they have no reason incentive to. Added levels, bosses, items, bug fixes, and world events is way worth the cost to me.
There are many other reason however those are the main two.
Also, something else i thought of. Let say they start out with a fee of 5-10 dollars a month. Thats cheap as hell. However, every time you are caught using a hack, cheat, or exploit they raise that price 5 dollars. It would be a incentive not to cheat because it would start effecting the wallet.
Lastly, to the people who say they they cant afford a monthly payment. Honestly, if you cant afford 15 bucks max a month then you really need to get a better job or something and not play games. Im sorry, but if you are struggling to pay that small ammount of money you have other issues.
Bring your lunch to work 3 days a MONTH and save that money.
Dont spend 19 bucks at the movies and have that money.
Dont buy a case of beer and you can have the money.
If you are responsible with it you can easily find extra money.
Well thats my two cents, flame on.
Well, I happen to be 14, and if you ask most of the people that know me, they'll say I'm certainly not a punk and that I am quite capable of being a mature, rational person and gamer. It may be an M-rated game, but that doesn't mean children CAN'T play it. The m-rating is a warning for parents and nothing more. If you don't like 14-year-olds in your online games, then quit. There will always be annoying people, be them 14, 28, 56, and upwards, if there are gamers that old. Deal with it and stop whining.

Dude... im sorry man but have you ever played WoW ? Its freaking FULL of 10 yrs old crying and beging for help and Gold, thats the reason i quit. And let me tell you this: Guild wars wich does NOT have a monthly fee has MUCH less Kids in it than WoW. So i gues its more About the Game and not the monthly fee.
eh! i'm kinda offended by your ignorance. for your record are games for kids (0-12). if you are older than twelve you are basicly a teenager! didnt you play games when you were 14? do not forget who you where.there will not be a monthley fee, but you should change your attitude! seems like you hate the future (kids). kids are the reason to get up in the morning if you care about the future but thats not the topic here;)
you are over your head here. im 17 years old and shouldnt be alowed to play a game? since when did kids care about boundries? bounderies are ment to be broken sometimes! sorry for my bad english;)
I am a hardcore blizzard fan. but I wont even buy a game with a monthly fee. Its a load of bullshit unless EVERYTHING (no single player) is supported by online. And if I did pay to play I would rather buy a game card then use my credit card. I still believe if i game is p2p it should cost 20 to buy and it will be like 80. There are people who have spent like 300+ bucks on wow... Sorry I dont want to pay for a game that costs me that much no matter how long i play.. and dont give me that "you'd spend that much on a ps3/xbox" thing because a computer (which i will have to buy a new one to meet system req) cost more then either of those.
