How's it in the game if it's periodical? Some areas are well-lit, some are not? Blizzard will probably fix this later, but I don't understand how does the existence of a well-lit area compensates for a badly-lit area.
OF A MAGAZINE SCAN. Most (old) magazines have their colors totally screwed up because of their printing technique. That picture is a perversion of the original. And if that wasn't enough, someone has used excessive brightness-tuning on the picture. The black cover/page looks like it was soaked in bleach. Sure, that's Gothic architecture, BUT, have you any idea how screwed up the colors are? If the brightness was OK, you wouldn't have those oversaturated statues. Yes, you would have distinct blue, green, yellow, red, whatever. But this image has been doctored to insanity.
I could care less how you two think the place "SHOULD" (there's that word again) look. You're both critiquing art direction for an entire game based on one level that has a few parts that don't have lighting according to your tastes.

a) I'm not critiquing anything. I am expression my point of view regarding lighting, and I am 100% sure Blizzard will slowly make DIII look exactly the way I want it to.
You mean my post? Yes, i apologize because of fancy coloring but it was necessary to point out the most important parts.
Well to be honest I didn't read your whole post but.
Thebarbs head floats through the shoulder pads!!!
and
When the WD moves his hands while summoning mongrels, his weapon dis/re-appears.
Don't seem that important to me.
The barbarians head does not "float through the shoulderpads". They do clash, but that happens in a lot of 3D games.
I don't see how the Witch Doctors weapon disappearing is that big of a deal. They did that to AVOID what you were just complaining about. If they left the weapons and shields on and the shield "floated" through his head or other arm then you'd be mad about that.
There are other parts of the graphic that I'm sure are more troubling than this.
They could avoid that 'clashing' by decreasing the size of the shoulder pads a little. And making them 'fit' on the shoulders.
(I think thats the 9137th time i said that.)
I agree they could be shrunk some.
Just change the summoning animations instead of making items disappear for a second.
The sorc raised her hands above her head when casting, that was cool.
The WD summon looks the same as the Sorc summon to me. Just s little different only because he's hunched over and shaky.
Sorc summons? I suppose you mean summoning fireballs and the like.
I can only clearly remember the animation for the frost nova, but IIRC, they were all the same, and in that animation she raised her hands over her head.
Well I was thinking about Hydra when I said that, but yes all of them.
The Witch Doctor raises his hands also, just not above his head, because if he raised them anymore he'd have to stand straight up, which I don't think he can do.
Lol bent over cripled which doctor. Bless his soul hes gonna fight the hordes of demons all crippled.

right now it looks alot like guild wars. keep it clasic diablo. dont try to look like everything else. darkness its key. this is a game abould the devil and killing him. it should look as evil as possable. and i mean evil. i always said that the first diablo made my church nervus. keep it that way. the way the game looks on screen is key.
Can, we stop fighting over graphics till it comes out?? Geez thats all on the forums. "GRAPHIX PETITION", "GRAPHIX 2 RAINBOEISH". I'm pretty sure there is more than just blue and greenish castles and crap. Wonder what hell would look like? Maby they are doing colors per level to show change.. Ever think of that?
So as long as half of the game is kickass the other half can suck ballz and you dont care?
That's an intentionally unfair question as it implies that a level with creepy green mood lighting is a huge flaw in the game when it's actually great looking to some people and to other's it simply doesn't suit their tastes - which is NOT a game breaker.
Its not like it ruins the whole game but it has no place in Diablo and is totally unnecessary.
This is why no one can talk to you. You've made up your mind about what belongs and what doesn't.
Add candles, torches and lamps which have greater light radius so the place has a mostly orange (natural) lighting and dont forget to apply that thing pointed out by Equinox.
Monsters lurk in the less lighted places. Not in warm, orange rooms.
Huh? You want everything natural lighting? Why? I thought you said you liked the evil corrupted look. Now it has to be all natural fibers organic, non-difussed, unfiltered non-processed all vegan lighting?
Yes that is the same building as I posted, but that would be what it looks like today. After all the colour has faded away. In the 13th century it would have been coloured like the image I posted. The same goes for most of the other images you posted Doppelganger.
This argument, if it can so be called, will go on forever, even after the game is released, people will still complain it's too light. I really do not see what the big deal is. I never played the Diablo series for the graphics. If you are complaining about graphic anomalies, glitches, bugs errors and the like I could understand, but seldom do any of you do that.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Show me a single screenshot of D1/D2 with that type of green/blue lighting/environment.
Wow, after all this discussion and you still seem to be missing the point. I'm almost tempted to tell you to not buy Diablo 3 and stick with the old crap since that's the only thing you seem interested in doing. Sorry, Blizzard doesn't want to make Diablo 2 but 'with updated graphics.'
Go back and read the updated first post. There are people who have played the game that initially had the same concerns as you. After playing the game and seeing it in motion, first hand, they realized what a more extended color pallete can do for a game to immerse the player in the environment while sticking to a certain atmospheric feeling. I'm alost jsut tempted to say "you know, you don't have to play this game, go play the other hundred games that are engrossed with greay and brown that have hit the market the last 2 years." It's getting old IMO. THen again, I play on a huge monitor so picturing nothing but greys and blacks because you think it looks more "evil and Diablo" make my stomache churn.

Show me a single screenshot of D1/D2 with that type of green/blue lighting/environment.
Don't have to...but I can show you many, many CURRENT games with that environment and I am not talking about WoW either.
We are talking about the lighting. If the place is corrupt, the air will change and also affect the lighting, making it either colder and a little darker, using a more 'agressive' red and or just dirty colors.
OK,...you say you want "colder", but the tombs they showed us ARE cold grays and cold greens. This is a fact. Those are colder shades. So,...why can't green be corrupt? Because it wasn't in Diablo 2? That's not a fair stance for you to take is it? "It can't be in the new game because it wasn't in the old one!" That's not fair to the artists who want to take Diablo 3 to the next level beyond what D2 gave us.
Making the place just greyish green without adding the source of the light is just wierd, giving a warm, orange light coming from the lamps, torches and candles is more immersive and makes more sense.
OK - I want you to think about what you are saying. In one sentence you call for cooler, "dirty" colors, and in the next you call for "warmer" colors. Not only that, but warmer colors have an effect on the viewer and guess what they do? Well, if there is warm oranges all over it actually gives the viewer a sense of comfort. It's nice to look at, but does it feel like an evil dungeon or a cozy night at Grandma's house? Warm colors soothe. And I know you don't want that. Warm colors do not make a game more immersive.
The screenshot that people posted of the warm candle light all over didn't look at all like a dungeon to me - it looked like a rest area where you can chill and get your bearings and perhaps swig on some champagne before venturing out into the dungeon again.
If the place is corrupt, it will affect that warm light making it 'less warm'.
No it won't. You're drawing connections between things that don't belong together. Knowing a place is corrupted doesn't make comfy soothing lighting suddenly wicked looking.
Yeah and who the fuck necroed this post anyways this topic was forgotten for almost 2 days and now the argue continues!
Well, what happened was the kiddos who think they canmake better games than Blizzard decided to tell everyone what they 'think' Blizzard needs to do to make the game... more like Blizzard's game.

Wow. You just told a admin not to post on the forum he's on.
What he posted was also a gothic architecture, even if it was lit "like it would have been in the past".
You can't just demand that a admin not post, then post a wall of pictures larger than what he did in the first place.
This is why this thread turns me off to the petition.
This is a perfect example......
