As someone who played Titan Quest for 2 years (D2 - 3 years, D1 - 2 years), I am reminded of the way I still find the Tigerman weapon, the sabertooth - weird, because it's obviously a katana and TQ never involved Japan.
Personally I don't think the Samurai fits the Diablo universe. Diablo is indeed too European in culture, compared to Titan Quest. Even though Europe had trade links with the east, I don't recall it had much contact with Japan.
If an oriental influence is desired, I think a class from the Arabian cultures would make more sense.
dude.. Ninjas come from Rouges. and Rouges are in WOW. Wasn't in Diablo.
But there was a MONK in diablo1.. a MONK can go very simular with a samurai cuz in legends Samurai's did fight against demons in Japan. Samurai sounds absolutely great.

I think a samurai in D3 would be a great ideal because yes they are master in swords, spears, and bows.
But NOT as good as an amazon when it comes with bows. Thus Samurai's shouldn't have great bowing skills like an Amazon.
For an example, Barbarians can throw axes. But do people throw axes more than melee? No. Because everyone knows that melee for Barbs do more damages than just throwing axes. Same for the Samurai class, they can shoot bows but not as good as an amazon. Probably, D3 can come out with better items such as japanese long bows, making gamers be able to know more about asian culture with weapons. I mean there is already an assasin who uses japanese ninja weapons. Why not Samurais?

To me, samurai would just take up another melee slot in the 5 characters we can choose from. Unless they have a ranged tree, it'd be a waste of space until the expansion maybe.
They need to serve some purpose besides strictly melee because Barbarian is already there for that. They want to make the 5 classes pretty unique.
AHAH can you imagion. The mighty Barbarian. The mystical sorceror. The skilled Amazon. The holy Palidan. The dead raising necromancer. AND TA CRAZY KATANA SAMURAI!
Ever since Tolkein's Middle Earth. People have been creating fantasy worlds around it. Tolkein had no Asian cultures, (Rhun was considered middle-eastern) thus very few Middle-Earth imatations had Asian lands. This goes for Sanctuary. When ever they are introduced, it feels lame and non mythical. It takes out the medival feel and makes it ninja gaidenesque. Lame. If anyone played MTG, remember how lame Kamigawa was? I stopped playing then.
Keep Ninjas, Samuris, and all other asian references out of Sanctuary. Nothing racist, it's just not medival.

I disagree, ever played baldurs gate? wasn there a ninja or samurai, I found that he didn't ruin the fantasy feel back then why should it in diablo?

You are thinking of the Kensai or sword Saint. That or the mod which made Samurai an actual class. And I have mentioned this idea before. It didn't seem weird or misplaced in a heavily medieval European game. But then again, that is Forgotten Realms, you have the Kura Tor. They are a heavily asian influenced society.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I'm leaving decisions like this up to Blizz.
I don't want my ideal hero picked out for me.
I want to have to learn and adapt to theirs.
To step into their world and out of mine.
The hell would I want to know my general plans of a build before I even buy it?
But.. how the Hell does a Samurai not fit?
You got a bitch with a bow, another casting spells.
You got some dirty musclehead out of the mountains.
You got a Crusader.
You got a nutjob raising the dead and making hunks of flesh and shit.
How does a man/woman specialized, highly trained and forever considered the most sophisticated of warriors NOT fit into Diablo III?
Deckard Cain: "Why would I want you and your decades of training since a baby in the ways of a warrior? I'm picking the meathead from the fucking mountains as my heroic adventurer!"
A Samurai makes all the sense in the world. Sanctuary and Earth.

I think a samuri class could be kinda cool, depending on how they do it. Much different then the barbarian, but in no way a sorcerer, and more strength than a ninja or assassin.
samurai be bad idea, You want some one with more skills and spells. samurais mainly use swords with no shield so you kinda limited to sword skills only.... making another melle charater only be like makinng another barb.
uhmm yea.. never in HELL (diablo) =] will that happen. And im pretty sure with that never part. Its diablo not asia. Might as well ask for a ninja class or something along the lines.
But.. how the Hell does a Samurai not fit?

Agreed. Diablo had all sorts of cultures mixed into it. Why Japanese don't fit I got no idea.

Katana's are bad ass... i would love to have a Samurai class... more sword wielding classes would make me oh so happy
samurais r tight but im not willing to trade the pally for a samurai but that one game that was like a samurai version of resident evil was hella tight
