wind waker used cell shading... diablo 3 looks like it uses cell shading.. dont know what is look it up. thats what gives the cartoony appearance.
Except Diablo 3 looks more realistic. Go outside and look at the goddamned grass and trees.

Before you think of saying that D3 looks cell-shaded, first cut off your head and then impale yourself.
If only... But Dimebog, dreams don't come true...
Quote from "muttonchops" »
No, this is cell shading.
Watch a D3 video. No bold outlines on the models. They don't resemble cartoon characters in the slightest. In fact, watch the developer walkthrough and when he zooms in on the barbarian, it's extremely photorealistic. You could not be more wrong.
Quiet! That's truth and facts! The bane of Diablofans.com! *Eye roll.*
Seriously though, good points well made. The difference between cell shading and Diablo 3 is like comparing Pacman on the Atari 2600 to Assassins Creed for the Xbox 360.

I really wish Blizzard could just say "fuck off" and be done with it. They do more fan service than any other game company I know of.

The moment you tell your customer "no" everything goes to shit.
Go out and get a job.
My assistant manager has told people to "Get the hell out of my store, Sir." all the time. It's really quite funny.
Oh, and we are making twice as much as we used to three months ago.
EDIT!!! My manager called my assistant a "BASTARD" before in the middle of the store. And we make 2 grand a day. For a small store, thats pretty good....
Edit again. No, I'm not telling anyone where I work. You fuckers would end up breaking in and stealing shit...
Ocarina of time is the first zelda in 3d. It was a hit and many consider it even today as the best game ever made. Everybody played it and loved it. It really raised the bar for the sequels.
Then, the next 3d Zelda is announced : Wind Waker. The art direction is completely different : cel-shading, childish, cartoony... All the Internet overreact on one single aspect of the game : the art style. Articles, polls, hate mail... Exactly what we've seen with Diablo 3.
Then the game released and most of the complaints stopped, since it was a great game and most fans loved it. The gameplay was just incredible.
If you ask a Zelda fan that didnt like Wind Waker whats wrong with the game, he'll say : the graphics. He wont say anything else. As if all the other aspects of the game are flawless. Yet, since he doesnt like the art style, he thinks the game is garbage.
My experience has always been, that anyone who believes you can tell a customer to "fuck off" either has never had any substantial work experience or doesn't think their job is worth having.
My views may be slightly skewed by the fact that I'm typically a team leader in jobs I've had in the past.

That's why I said "I wish they could", not "I think they should."
My overall point is that I believe the petitioners are, well, assholes. They all give off a vibe of entitlement and act like they understand everything better than Blizzard, the people who have sat down and worked on the game for several years now. And these petitioners feel that their initial reaction and 10 minutes of reflection is more substantial.

I've told you what High Fantasy meant, now stop trolling.
You realize that you are the person that comes into threads and tries to tell people what you think something means and you end up being wrong every time, right (unless you're copy pasting Wiki)?
I like it when Mr. Know-it-alls like you end up being parodies of themselves.

I'm of the belief that both sides of the pond are totally idiotic, both the petitioners and the ones opposing them.
It's all turned into moronic trolling, like Creepsville, who only comes into threads to make insults with no real argument to back up any post he's ever made.
He also likes to quote wikipedia in an attempt to prove his point, but if he had actually gone to college he would understand that wikipedia is a bad source for ANYTHING because if so many people agree the moon is made of cheese, the entry says the moon is made of cheese. If he spent actually two minutes in google instead of quoting a wikipedia entry, he may actually have something intelligent to post one day.
Actually no. The other thread he talks about art direction, this one he responds directly to those hilarious photoshopped photos people made that think they can make better games than Blizzard

I make a hundred a night as a food runner at some Japanese restaurant. But after football season, I'll be a waiter and I'll make 200. Rolling in the dough son. Honda 600 CBR here I come.
By the way, are you saying that the profits you reel in a day are $2000 or are you saying that you, personally, make $2000 a day?

Correction, if he had actually gone to any form of school in which classes might assign research papers. I'd say around a middle school education is what he/she might be lacking.
Wilson is right in every aspect. However, this thing with lighting and light radius seems to be a technical limiitation because they switched to 3D?
I disagree with what he said in two areas.
1. The bridge scene. It's a severe case of him simply not getting it. "Want more rain? WE HAVE IT!" No, that's not it at all. The color is expertly done and there is no lighting on it (reduces PC load) while keeping the area dark and moody. It also makes the game look >stylized<. Wasn't that one of the two points?
2. The light radius. Not able to do it? That's bullshit, complete and utter bullshit. They can do it, they simply do not want to. They don't want to put in the effort to put in a check box or slider in the options that allows you to turn light radius on or off. How many games have this and how many of them look stunning while allowing you to set the performance based on your machine? More than enough for this to be a staple.
Really, all he did was spew out a bunch of excuses as to why they won't put check boxes and sliders for those who want a visually impressive/dark game. Turning down the gamma and brightness doesn't do it. So many games have options that allow you to get a visually stunning game at the sake of using more CPU power. I don't understand the issue here. I really don't.

WoW has it.
SC2 has it.
Diablo 2 had it.
Diablo 3 won't?
I think he was actually taking the time to show a lot of people who signed the petition that they didn't know what they were talking about.
The only reason i show that video is to prove that its possible to alter the graphics easily.
That example may be crappy but if some random guy could do something like that, Blizz should be able to do it 10 times better.
LOL!
Yay! Video editing! This is my field!
Well you see Kenzai, you are wrong as usual. He was talking about the dynamic lighting that a game engine creates. That is vastly different than taking a video and throwing a video filter (which is an after product - hence the term POST production in the editing field). I'm sure he knows that the dev team could change the colors to darker hues and shades, he addressed that in a different answer when explaining the art direction that you probably failed to read as well. What he was saying the lighting in the manipulated shots was impossible and improbable to achieve with their video game engine.
Again, I'll take their word for it instead of the kid on the Diablo Fans forums who , again, thinks he can make better games than Blizzard.
So you see, taking video and adding video filters/manipulating colors is just as easy as doing it to a photoshopped picture. It has nothing to do with the same degree of manipulation it would take to code a engine to Produce such things.
Also, He doesn't have to say anything now. If anything these Diablo Devs joke about the online petition you signed over their lunch break.

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.
I know that this article is already appearing in another thread (that is where I took the link from) but I wanted to point out something.
Besides that this is a good read on the games design, I noticed that Jay Wislon mentioned something:
Quote:
"Although I will say the pitch that I originally did, once we decided what we were going to do, said “Diablo III — now with pants.” Because we added a pants slot."
This makes me wonder as to what other items, more specifically armor/clothing, that we will see in Diablo 3. Thus far we know that they are introducing shoulder-mounts and pants, so what else should we expect? Cloaks? Capes? Belts which increase the number of active weapons you can carry (holster)? Baseball caps? Wool mittens? Scarfs? Penny-loafers?
I would like to hear what the general consensus has to say on this.
ps. I hope the lot of you that read this understood the humorous suggestions aren't to be taken seriously.
