Gaming used to be a cheap form of entertainment, and it still is. But gamemakers are realizing this and upping the prices because they can. $10 a month for playing diablo 3 online would be a lot more cost effective than any other type of entertainment I can think of. Sure it sucks thats the way things are headed, but blizzard has a near monopoly on GOOD games of this type.
then you sir forgot about one of the most cost effective forms of entertainment... sex or masturbation...
and oath.. wtf are u talking about wont be kids? there will be kids out the ass... theyll all come over from fucking wow... -.-
No LAN = more copies sold (less pirated copies and more copies per one household) = less of a need for additional fees.

People who enjoy WoW for the challenge and complex mechanics would have to loose their mind before switching to a minigame hack and slash that is Diablo 3. Just because it's free doesn't mean that every fool like you will want to play it.
Meh....
I didn't care for lan. I played every now and then, but mostly I'd just tell my buddies to go into my private open b.net game. Pretty much the same thing for us.
But if it's p2p, I'll be pissed. Sure, I'd like more frequent patches (if they actually need them), but I don't want them just to add something unnecessary while forcing fans to pay more than they should.
Weekly? Bullcrap. If they find a major problem every week that NEEDS to be fixed immediately, then they screwed up terribly somewhere in development.
Monthly? Hmm, I dunno, still seems a bit too much... although if they happen to find a freak big problem that must be handled the very next month after the last patch, it wouldn't be too bad.
3-4 months? I wouldn't really have a problem with that. Most problems will be found within that time frame, and they can just bunch them all together every 3-4 months and fix them, or add something that should have been added before. And that wouldn't be too outrageous in cost, especially considering how many hundreds of millions, if not possible billions of dollars they'll be making once they release Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, not to mention the cash cow they already have with WoW.
And also, pirating is illegal anyway for obvious reasons. I don't see why "fans" would want to hurt the company they love. So if no LAN is to stop that, I'm all for it. It'd help finance the patches. But then again, if taking LAN away isn't going to stop that stuff for too long anyway, I guess I don't see why they'd completely axe it...
I really don't care about that other stuff, I was just mentioning that Jay doesn't alway pull through with what he says. And I love, love, the outdoor environments. I'm not mindlessly bashing colors.
There's also a difference between violence & not for kids and horror. Kill Bill is not something you would watch with your 4 & 5 year olds, but it certainly isn't a horror movie.
ON TOPIC: where does he say that it isn't going to be p2p? I'd love to see it. It would cheer me up to no end
Oh, ya, I hate the shoulder pads the most.

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.

I didn't say there wouldn't be any kids.... I said the majority of them wouldn't be on a P2P system. That isn't to say that some will get their parents to pay for it monthly, or buy the game card with their "hard earned" allowance... but if Diablo 3 gets an M rating, like I'm absolutely hoping for (but seriously doubt), it shouldn't be that much of an issue, ideally speaking.
Then again, with the removal of LAN to for anti-pirating purposes... and a (hopeful) P2P system, we may actually see a more mature community.
Then again, from what I've seen from most Diablo III forums.... maybe not.

It's funny how people say things like "Of course there will be kids they will all come over from WoW!" 90% of the people I play with on WoW are 18 years and older.
Also, if I remember correctly, I was a kid when I started playing Diablo1. I must have been around 15 years old, and I still have fond memories of that game. Actually, the Diablo series and Blizzard's cutscenes were some of the major reasons I wanted to become a 3D artist and work on video games when I got out of high school.
anyone hear if there will be acts? because i doubt there will be.. if u look at the map its like an actual world now im guessing you walk from place to place but idk...

Don't get fooled by that illusion. Just because they give you a map doesn't mean you can freely walk all over it, or that you would even visit much of it. They had a neat map in Heretic II and all you visited was like this narrow strip in the middle. Diablo II had a map as well, did we get to all of it? No.

They said 4 acts roughly the same length as Diablo 2 in a recent GC interview.
If its pay to play then to hell with it. I already spend $50 on this game and now they want me to spend $10-$15 a month to play the damn thing. That ruins a game. You got to remember that kids outnumber people on the interent 10-1, there like cockroaches of the internet. :/
