There are a lot of new doors that have opened up with the maps of Diablo 3 being created in a 3 dimentional environment. I have noticed that even in the videos, you can see that you are not just moving from room to room side to side, but into rooms that are stacked ontop of eachother connected with doors and starcases ect.
Imagine some of the dungeons having even more of that maze effect with some tricky three dimentional attributes to them.
Has anybody played the game or see the movie, Labyrinth? Where the walls and trees are slowly shifting causing you to get lost quicker. I was thinking this would be an interesting concept for one of the last levels. Once you found the waypoints, you wouldn't have to put up with the "pain in the a**" walls moving to get towards the end again, but this would really make things interesting. It would also occasionally cause party members to become seperated!
I think this would be awesome!
Tell me what you think guys!!
This is a great idea. It would also add to replayability and it wouldnt be so easy and boring to do boss runs. It would also add to the fear effect because you wouldnt know what to expect. Like your party suddenly gets seperated and you have to find your way back and communicate with the party. Would make the gameplay much more interesting.
I agree. By adding to the fear effect you are esentially adding to what makes a classic diablo game. There always was the color scheme to make it look gothic, the lack of lighting to set the mood for a scary scene, monsters of course... but your sitting at your computer....you might feel safe. When you add the suspense of actively moving walls/bushes, you are adding suspense, and thus to the fear.

I fucking loved that movie !
Man, when i was a kid I watched the shit out of that movie.
Anywho.
I think that would make for a great dungeon, to have it in every one would make it stale and overused though, so just confining this mechanic to one area would probably be best.
It would make for a pretty incredible play experience though.
And you're right, it would definitely add to the overall suspense of the game. Would make for an arcane sanctuary style dungeon.
Man, I REALLY hope they add something like this.
You know that famous Escher picture with all the stairs and doorways on the walls ?
Now THAT would make for a confusing dungeon ^^.

"One in every 10 million people can potentially have a headache from this pill." God forbid she is the 0.000000001% of having a headache.
I was hoping for this to be in Hell, but nowhere else so Hell can make more of a "twisted and lost" atmosphere, along with spirits at the edge of your screens that your can't reach, and non-existent walls.
I think this is an awesome idea... Also a cool quest could be in some tower where you climb stairs in circles u know... its like u keep going up, imagine those towers from LOTR? when saruman pwns gandalf ontop of one... xD
I think that's a really cool and creative idea! You know what else would be neat? If when certain walls shifted, it would open up areas full of difficult monsters that you have to face or higher-grade treasures. I think it would have been cool in the Arcane Sanctuary- shifting bridges or some such. That was one of my favorite places so far in Sanctuary.
In hell, you may see shifting walls where you would think it to be asininely stupid for the walls to shift. Like where a wall is holding onto lava. Lets say the wall shifts. Well not only do you have to deal with the wall, but you also have to walk and find your way around the now flowing stream of lava, or we could even say water in earlier acts in nightmare or hell difficulty.
Man, if only they had this kind of thing back when we had the arcane sanctuary.
Not to diss on the arcane sanctuary, since it's definitely my favorite location so far, but it needed to be more disorienting ^^.
Maybe we'll revisit the sanctuary in D3 ?\
Opening up lava rivers would be pretty awesome too, would make the environments WAY more interactive, and would basically just make gameplay all the more fun ^^.
I really hope we get this kind of addition to the game.

Do you guys remember that in D2 you could open certain walls by clicking on them?? Of course I never found anything special in those places:mad:
The most secret place in d2 was that secret wall in the catacombs if im not mistaken...
It was in one of the monastery's floors in act 1... it was a wall with a torch on it and you could ust click on the wall and it opened... when i first discovered it i was excited... i was about 7 years ago?
Haha, I still open those walls ^^.
I've actually found some decent socketables in there, to find these areas just look for the enclosed square spaces in the middle of the catacombs, one of the walls segments will look slightly out of place.
Click that bitch.
Not many people seemed to know about this lol, i loved it though ^^.

In conjunction with the existing physics system, the waterflow/lava flow could then leave some interesting imprints in to the ground causing a slight change in terrain. One of the buildings you may have wanted or needed to go into may temporarily be cut off/flooded because you broke one of the walls that held in a moat or the edge of a lava flow barrier.
Could also lead to some interesting ways to kill enemies as well, since Blizz said and demonstrated that this will be possible ^^.
You could lure a horde of zombies towards a dam or something, then smash it and watch them all get washed away by a river of lava or water ! Not only that, but other pursuers would have to find a way around the river to get at you, or wade through the river (if it's water) and risk becoming easier targets for ranged classes.
Tactics galore...

Im going to post some of these ideas on battle.net with the hopes that someone like bashiok at least can get his mouth wet with some of thease ideas and maybe convey them to blizzard. I kind of like some of thease... its possible that they have already thought about a lot of this...
I want it to rain and then flood, changing the terrain of the map and open up new areas, such as hidden chests, or uber levels for gaining experience or hard to find items. Also there could be valcanoes which irrupt that can cause a boulder or side of mountain irode away allowing passage to a hidden cave for example. Lots of cool things they could do.
post this on the bnet forms see if baishok responds.
Anyway this is a very very cool Idea.
