Holy would be the magic of Angels. Unholy would then be the magic of Demons. It is like water and fire. They deal alot of damage against eachother, but against other things, like rocks, or wind, they can't do shit. A holy light would be a ray of angelic energies. A ray that acts purifying from everything depending on how "evil" it is.
Thats execly what i don't like in "Holy" and "Unholy" elements. I'm telling you are wrong - actually I bet blizz guys agree more with you then with me.
Lemee just take WoW as a exemple. There theres a Shadow and a Holy element. But really, why a fucking shadow hurt anything ? My lock just pull off a ball of some purple stuff and shoot at monsters and they're sundely are dead for no clear reason. But WoW are no reference in matter of "elements". Really, group lightning, poison and earth in the same group is odd.
Try to imagine been hurt by a Holy or a Unholy force. Really how it feels? I just can't imagine I'm sure a close minded person when the topic is colorfull lights killing stuff.
It is imaginay, so you can't really imagine it hurting you, it doesn't even exist How would you say that arcane feels o.O? We have to let the game be quite a bit unrealistic if we want new things.
Thats why a arcane bolt been just a bolt of purple light sounds really stupid to me.
I can imagine some of arcane spells.. For exemple, wave of force would feel just like I was hitted by a enormous object in high speed, however that object aren't there, it's just the force acting. Desintegrate must feel like been sliced by a absolut perfect slicing object because it's about creat a rift in space and pass that rift across enemies body.
Personally i like to imagine more unreal effects (like Witch Doctor's Soul Harvest) as a part of my soul been drained. So it feels like a such powerfull depression that my body starts to malfuction instantly and that how it may kill me.
However I can't imagine the power of a "holy" punishment uppon me. In our religions such thing is made with the natural elements of our world (earthquakes, meteors, plagues, etc...).
Arcane seems to be more like a physical force to me, like having abilities that push things backwards.
And yeah, a purple bolt of light just seems a tad lame..
Only thing I can see holy working against are things that are weak towards it, such as demons and undead. I see no reason why an everyday person could be harmed by a flask of holy water... (holy water as an example, don't trip out and be all "OH EM GEE, WE'RE GETTING HOLY WATER IN D3 !")

Agreed... let's not get into philosophy.
Although, it does make sense that things not physically visible/ or things that you can't physically touch can hurt us.
The light/heat example is perfect, even though heat is not physically visible and it does not have a physical form, it can still hurt us if it is intense enough.
Gravity manipulation would work quite well with the arcane school of magic, like I've said before, invisible forces that move objects seem to fit in with the arcane category.
Utility skills (teleport, telekinesis) would go quite well in here.

Teleport would be to control space. Pretty cool really You are changing the geometry of all energy between the location and the caster. Or you would control time, but that would be unrealistic
Just got this urge to discuss the timetravel paradox
Yep :D.
Either that or the caster could shift onto another plane (arcane plane perhaps ?), move through the plane at an accelerated rate, and rematerialize in Sanctuary where they moved to.
Planar travel would be pretty interesting to see, I remember somebody a while back talking about travelling to the elemental planes in D3, struck me as a pretty interesting topic and something that Blizzard would hopefully include.
Haha, well I'm sure that the million post thread will accept that urge ^^.

I will not make the million thread suffer today And I never thought of planes. My physics imagination is really limited to what exists in our world. But shifting plane could happen, perhaps we have to do that to kill The Prime Evils once and for all, they just refuse to die
Haha, fine, abandon our thread !
Yeah, shifting to say... a spiritual plane to kill their soul once and for all would be quite interesting.
Would be neat to see what they came up with for their souls, if you think about it, their soulds would be pure hatred, destruction, and terror.
So basically we would be fighting what we hate most, what we wish to destroy most, and what we fear most.
If their souls appeared to us that way anyways, perhaps they would appear as what mephisto hates most, what baal wishes to destroy most, and what diablo fears most ?
Apparently Blizzard is bringing this particular story arc to a close though, so this may be the last time we encounter the prime evils, perhaps the last time we encounter any of Hell for that matter.
I can definitely see the next game focusing on trying to defend Sanctuary from the High Heavens.
Blizzard would definitely get tons of flak from religious organizations though.
Heh, gotta say, I'm quite proud of that response.
emil, you and your incredible posts are rubbing off on me ^^.

Thats reminds me of D2 manual were the soc's teleport are explained, because her teleport is lightning based. However i don't remenber well the explanation.
But I don't like the idea of killing the prime evils =/ They are entities you know... I guess the best we can do is cage then in some demension (like Lilith in the void). Also kill the prime evils means we will totally break the balance and that sounds really ackwards. lol I don't kno, but somehow Rathman became my religion when we talking about sanctuary lo
Back to the topic, i believe we will have Holy damages though i don't like this idea. Blizz have a tradition of put elements that cannot be resisted, like Magic in D2, Chaos damage in WC3 and Holy in WoW.

Faded out her voice and soiled her name
And like marked pages in a diary
Everything seemed clean that is unstained
