Even though I think 6, Blizzard always wants their games to be accessible as possible. This includes people with lower end computers. You just never know...

I think 4 will be fine. Diablo ran awesome with just four people.

it has to be more than 4.. they can't leave it where all 5 classes can't be in the same game.. so the VERY minimum will be 5... so one of each class can team up..

So what are the negatives of more than 4 people? I'm interested to find out. Mabey you just don't like people? Or have no friends? Tell me the story.
negatives would be the inability to discern what is going on when you have 4+ people all using colorful skills on hordes of enemies.. it would just become a giant mess of exploding crap and lighting effects.. which may be okay to some... but I for one like to know what I'm doing and be able to see what I'm attacking..

Giant messes of exploding crap and lighting effects are what I pay for.
Although i would like to see 5 people because I can guarantee that I will want to play with more than just 3 other friends, 4 people is only for coop play. To keep the game feeling epic with the nice effects and with the increased amount of monsters on the field this keeps things visually distinguishable and also reduces lag. Maybe in PvP there will be 8vs8.
I have at least 5 real life friends I am looking forward to playing D3 with.
My opinion on the matter - If your computer can't handle 6 players, or 8 players, or 12 players: Turn down your graphics, Restrict the number of players in your game to what your computer can handle, or get a better computer!
I understand wanting to make the game accessible to those with low end machines, but there are ways to do that without making those with high end machines suffer!
I will be most upset if I can't play with all my friends. "Sorry Chase, Ned joined first!"

Can't say I disagree with you. However, my personal point is that if the max is 8, then the majority of random games will be 8 players game. Thats seriously not something I want.
I just wouldn't know what to do. Lag is seriously not my issue here. And people shouldn't compare to D2 - the D2 engine just stink somewhere, because there is no way in hell some of the kickass PC I tried D2 with should lag. Its an issue with the game, not just the computers.
Beside, holding that back for lag is a bad idea. Like I said though, I want plenty of 4 players game, or at least anything lower than 7 really.
8=too much
7=too much
6= hard on low end comps
5= pushing the low end comps
4= the average at low settings fine maxed will push low end comps
3,2,1=fine
The point here being you can't have too many players as it is just too hard for low end comps. 4/5/6 is okay but 4 is an average where at low settings will probably run 30-60 fps. the above average comp will be able to run these settings maxed as it will not have much graphical performance needed. i personally want 5 cause if you get all five classes and yes i have 4 friend wanting to play with me who all want diffrent classes, so i mean i can get my tank aka barb and my dps and all my other players who can contribute something diffrent albeit a diffrent method of attack backup diffrent elements to fight the diffren elementally weak monsters. its just overall better if you can get that variety.
EDIT: i wouldn't be surprised if blizzard just made those games 4 ppl only so you can see the skills and get a small party goign. and with their "PVP" system there has to be 8 player games cuz 2v2 sucks personally. So really i wouldn't be surprised if their holding back the max amount of players to surprise us or something they probably have at least 6 for 3v3 or even 8 for 4v4. And there are no specific pvp matches cause you could go hostile in demo you just culdn't kill them.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Well yea i would definately vouch for more than 4 but looking at the gameplay vids again, (maybe im blind or something), so is it just me or does the screen get cluttered with effects that you dont know what the fuck is going on. So yea maybe they'd like to stick with 4 so that the awesome skill effects can remain awesome. imagine 8 players in the screen you wouldnt be able to see each other with all the cluttering effects and stuff going on.

d3 will have more effects and will be more difficult to see whats going on and we have the lag problem too
5 is for me the perfect number for d3, 4 or 6 is ok too

Yes it is.
why do people keep saying this
I bet even with 4 max you will not have 4 unique classes in a pub
idk what is worse, the lan people wanting to play by themselves or the 5 people party people assuming the ratio of classes will be 20% per
glad you are a leetzor diablo 3 tester and have the knowledge of what is enough
oh btw, what is the 5th class all knowing one?

Unless they designed the game differently than it is now, more than 4 people means you may not even get a shot in and the fight is over.
Too many players just suck.
