I don't remember if this has been discussed yet, but I've realized that in the trailer all the battles, the meteors and Big D or whatever is the monster with three heads... all of that is placed in the future...
If you watch it, you can see that the girl is running from the cathedral because of the meteor or something that is destroying the building... but then, she "wakes up" and that's when she says "I don't think is safe here"...
does that mean that at the beginning we are going to try to stop diablo from returning to sanctuary? (like in D2) or we are going to try to fight against him from start? (like in D1)
Weren't we fighting against him right from the start in both games? He was just disguised in D1 and D2 using the bodies of mortals...
I forgot who he used in D1. That was prince Albrecht I think... And in D2, it was the warrior. The question I have been asking myself is- does that weakling (aka diablo) need a body to make it into sanctuary?
In the first one, when he got pawned, the little boy's body appeared after the soulstone was removed. In D2 he basically ripped through the warrior's body and I doubt the warrior's body would appear after :olddiablo:'s demise...
So in D3, maybe it will be the 'real' him, unrestrained by the limitations of spawning from a mortal's body...
Did i make any sense there...?
Who knows? I think there's a lot of things, story elements, that we have no idea about at the mooment. The whole civil war in Hell and how that plays out, how Diablo and his brothers will return (if they return). Obviously we're going to fight Hell, but it's hard to say anything beyond that I think.
He needed the body of a mortal to stay within sanctuary because of the worldstone.
That doesn't make any sense either. He appeared in Sanctuary during the Sin War, when the Worldstone still stood.
And Tyrael and other angels certainly do not seem to have this problem associated with them. It seems unlikely that the Three would be restrained by such a barrier when the Angiris are not.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

ZOMG!!! Look! Look! The frozen lizard has succumbed to a cow moment. Seriously- mooment?
Mwahahahaha....Mooooooooooo......
The question I have been asking myself is- does that weakling (aka diablo) need a body to make it into sanctuary?
Obviously not:
He appeared in Sanctuary during the Sin War.
He was banished to Sanctuary by the Lesser Evils prior to D1.
In neither case did he possess a host body during his stay.
Hmm...I haven't read the books, so I didn't know that. But thanks for the info. However now things seem more confusing. Why did that douchebag of diablo choose to possess the prince or warrior then? Did he have a thing for little boys then changed his mind and he wanted a man?
Was the Lord of Terror too terrified to take his own form right from the start? Was he feeling insecure? All of these questions remain on my mind...Ah...the mystery.

Now what was that red crystal stuff for..? Was it to protect sanctuary? And then I remember something that it was corrupted.. WTF!?!
Anyway are the game creators actually basing the story on the lore from the books?
I am having the impression it is not so...or they would have to bullshit a mighty piece of story to make the books and the game make sense...
Mind you, I haven't read the books, so I cannot really tell...
I think as his essence was imprisoned within the soulstone he needed a human host to roam the earth... hence the pedo-diablo in D1 and the wanderer...
but now that all the soulstones and the worldstone are gone we have no clue about what's going to happen...
but you haven't answered my question, it's possible that the meteor-like thingy that fall from the sky is going to happen in the game timeline and not before?

At that time, he was trapped inside a stone. Since a stone doesn't possess any legs, it makes it very difficult to actually get anywhere. Thus, a host body seemed a good investment.

Well you have to remember that the Worldstone wasn't doing a very good job in D2 either, else how did Baal manage to summon an army containing thousands of demons?
The whole Worldstone deal is pretty confusing. It does something, even the books point out that it was designed to hide Sanctuary. But it's not entirely clear how it does it.

This is outrageous!!! How come nobody told me that before!?! How did that pedodemon get trapped in a stone now? Is that in the books? (Oh thanks for sharing info though- am a noob as to diablo lore)

Ya that worldstone stuff seems like dodgy business.

I want it to be in the game time line... Or a prophecy (or rather premonition) of what is to come. And then it happens and we sort out the trouble.

That is in the game, provided you bother to read all the quest dialogues

Wha...? For real?
Lol at me for knowing most of Nekro's ingame speech and being clueless about the main story line..
I only remember Tal Rasha, Baal and soulstone. Nothing of pedodemon and soulstone.
Going to play the game once more during the holidays. I usually listen to all NPC ramblings..
How the fuck I missed that?
Anyway, if I don't get my answer at the end of the play through, you are a dead lizard.
On the other hand, if it's in D1, I won't remember. Too long since I played that one.
