The diablo 3 site was updated with the artisan/caravan information. One thing I noticed, that hadn't been said before was that the mystic can break down runestones so that you can combine ingredients to make your own. I think this will be similar to how we can break down armor into pieces to make new ones. Maybe this is what the talisman is for. There are different components/pieces, you needs to create one new runestone. I am wondering how exactly it works though. Like what pieces they break down into. Is it just "magic" pieces and you need enough to create a new one or is it like certain stones have different pieces and combine x+y=z.
I do like that there will be some control in obtaining these runestones than just pure luck with random drops.
runestones are not rune words. they are the items that we will be putting into our skills to modify their effects. They have already worked on them. Regardless, that has nothing to do with the topic. The topic at hand is that we get to craft our own runestones. I am wondering exactly how this works. We can break down components of other runestones but just what they break down into and what is needed to craft new ones is unknown.
I love the idea. The only problem I really have with it is that it kinda gives us too much power over what our skills do.
Of course they'll have limitiations, but if it works out like gems, then we could have an amazingly-amazing runestone that can make our players shoot liquid death out of their weiners (yes, this is an exaggeration).

I hate the way you cling to ignorance and pass it off as innocence
I agree, I want some control over what stones i get to use. I am just wondering exactly how we will make them. How many of stone x do I need to make stone y. Or do I need stone w and x to make y.
I always thought gems worked like averages though.
x + y / 2 = z
So if x > y, then you would get a greater prodcut of the combination.
Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's how they should be. It would be great to implement as it would create a cap at the highest maximum grade because you can't have an average greater than your maximum.

I'm sorry, I didn't use x,y,z to imply level or strength, just separate components. I'll use more random letters so you understand what I am trying to say.
Example:
Alabaster rune breaks down into: a, j, p.
crimson rune breaks down into: f, q, t
To create a obsidian rune you need: 2a, 3q.
Therefore you have to break down two alabaster runes and three crimson runes to create an obsidian rune.
Although, after re-reading the page it says:
and can also give you the option to break down undesirable runes for a shot at one you want.
So maybe what it is is that you can break down a higher level stone and possibly get a different stone of a lower quality or possibly nothing at all making is a gamble to do.

He's talking about runestones not runewords.I'm not sure if I like making our own runestones. The randomness of their drop adds to their charm.
