I know everyone hates the thought of D3 being too much like other mmorpgs but .. Would it be cool if there were a dragon to kill in D3? ... I think it would lol
Is there anything that hints to dragons in D3 lore? If yes, bring it on. If not, i'd say rather not. Don't get me wrong, I love dragons (even got a dragon tattoo), but it would just be too much of a cliché.
there is something I found ... what do you guys think...
Trag'Oul is a supernatural creature whom the Necromancers believe is massive dragon who supports the world on his back. He is described as "the closest thing the Cult of Rathma has to a god". However, it is not clear whether the term "god" is appropriate to describe him.
the only dragon mentioned in all of the lore i've heard is Trag'Oul.
as much as i love dragons i dont think they're fitting in a game like Diablo without changing it into something else (see Sacred with elves and dragons :P).
even if they decided to add a dragon in the game, he'd be a minor boss and totally unimportant considering the bigger picture here (Diablo is back, Hells invade, Heaven probably invades aswell) and the dragon would seem quite irrelevant. I liked how badass the dragons were in Dragon Age: Origins, but that was because as the name of the game says, it was developed around dragons

I wouldn't mind fighting a dragon in D3. Although that would be kind of weird with the static viewpoint lol.
True. It almost couldn't be a boss because it would be very hard to let it fly around. Purely from a game physics point of view, only minor dragons that can't fly very well yet would be an option. Or a huge dragon guarding treasure in a low cave maybe.. but still I'd rather slay the likes of diablo and mephisto in D3.. demons and undead abominations.
There was one in Dungeon Siege. It was one of the coolest fights ever, but you basically just hacked away at her (yes, it was a girl dragon). Plus you got hella loot.
I'm all for it. Since the boos fights are going to be more elaborate than just walking up and killing them, I'd like to see how a dragon could work out in terms of the battle itself.

Oh gosh I just noticed this. And the answer is, fuck no it wouldn't be cool. Diablo is hardly the most unique fantasy game out there, but at least we can enjoy the fact that it has no elves, orcs, or fucking dragons in it. And don't tell me Trag'Oul is a literal dragon because he is not. If you want to slay dragons go play the 150+ other fantasy games that let you do that. And can you be a bit more descriptive with your next thread title? Just calling it "what it" doesn't help anybody.
Anyone who said that yes it would be cool to kill dragons in Diablo just doesn't understand what's cool about this game.
sorry Siaynoq I'll try and not use such an abstract title next time. To be honest though I was just being me, I'm kinda like that IRL lol.
It was just an idea about the dragon thingy. I figured usually there is a problem with the fate of the world and since Trang holds the world on his back, I bet someone like Diablo in the story somewhere could summon him to a realistic fighting size and use him in harmful ways kinda like Cerberus or maybe just an overall threat to man kind.
...
second thought If Trang died would it be like destroying the world stone?
and p.s. let's not forget Trang'oul is a real Dragon in the Diablo lore, we are not making this up. They even made really sweet set armor after him link here http://diablo2.diablowiki.net/Trang-Oul's_Guise

But even if Trag'Oul is a literal dragon in the sense that we are used to dragons in fantasy, the whole thing about him is that he's supposed to be unique. He is this one divine being that transcends in many ways the powers even of the Burning Hells and High Heavens. To throw dragons in the game just to fight them kind of makes them cheap.
Rather, you'd want to say something like, yes, there is but one dragon in the existence of our universe. It is a divine creature and utterly unique as far as we know. That's about the only way dragons should be presented in Diablo's story. Not as flying fire breathing scaly lizards everywhere there for us to slay.
The cool thing about diablo is that legends really are legends. Trang'Oul is a dragon - but the only one, and hes a godlike beign.
Theres also a ring called Dwarven Star, wich makes me think that, in some remot time, a dwarf-like race may have existed in sanctuary, but noone ever saw then. So they remain a legend.
So, yeah, i like the fact that there isn't a bunch of dwarves and elves all around. The common diablo non-human races looks pretty fitting for some reason. So, i would hate to see dragons (and any other mystery of the diablo lore) turn into cheap monsters/creatures as mentioned by the above poster.

That wouldn't really be fitting lore wise. If the dragon is the God of the necromancers (as in, they believe the world rests on a giant dragon's back), then why would diablo of all people summon him? That woud be like Satan summoning Vishnu. It's silly.
That's why I think a dragon would only work in a necromancing context, as an attempt of the necromancers to invoke or create an image of their deity.
I think there would be a very good chance of some kind of intervention from Trag'Oul in a D3 expansion. The main point of D3 is to kill Diablo, and if Trag'Oul has to interfere then that will just make you feel weak, but what if Trag'Oul had to interfere because of you? The main feeling that the developers want you to feel is power and what could make you feel more powerful then having to have a being that transcends realities end your mission.
Trag'Oul is purely neutral which means he would just as soon help Diablo as he would with us if we needed help with maintaining good right? So that means he could easily fight the forces of good aka heaven/sanctuary if we were destroying hell itself. Think about it, if we're the most powerful, why wouldn't heaven use us as a weapon against hell? I think that's one of the few ways Trag'Oul could play a role.
That being said, I think it would fit better in an epic cinematic at the end of an expansion just as we strike to destroy the essence of terror/hate/destruction. Just imagine it, we would finally know something meaningful about the lore that the book readers don't!
