I agree with Magis. I doubt we will see an announcement from the call.
Every time I see this thread I read "My 5th conference call". And I think "What? Who cares about your conference call!" And then I feel dumb.

Normally I'd agree with you on both of those points, but the thing is that Jay Wilson said, not in a conference call, that the beta would last for around 6 months. I'm going under the assumption that it'll start around 6 months before release and won't last the entire time, but it still sounds like it would be longer than 2 months live.
The other thing is that since they said they would discuss the beta in the May conference call, what else can you really say about a beta other than whether or not its starting SoonTM? Its not like they're going to take the time in a financial call to lay out what's going to be in the beta, in fact they probably won't say anything about its content before it goes live. So I just don't see many likely scenarios that don't involve a beta announcement. As for how appropriate a conference call is for a beta announcement, keep in mind that the SC2 beta was announced during a similar conference call a few years ago.
Also, the combination of the beta starting approximately 6 months before release with their stated goal to get D3 out in 2011 points to the beta going live no later than June. Now, obviously there could have been a whole bunch of changes since we last heard from Blizzard in terms of beta length, etc, but based on what we know a May beta announcement at least isn't out of the question.

Where did he say this? I think I either missed it or forgot.

Just seems like something that could be easily used to hype for Blizzcon and get more of those live feed subscriptions sold. If the beta is going to last for six months, like you said Wilson said it will, then I agree with you on this:

Did Jay Wilson really say 6 month long beta or just that it would start about 6 months before release? The SC2 beta started about 6 months before release, but it definitely wasn't 6 months long. It was closer to 4 months, a 3 month first phase, 1 month closed, 1 month second phase, 1 month closed for release or at least around those timeframes.
So unless they reveal a few things soon (highly unlikely) beta probably won't start this summer. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept those reveals for Blizzcon. I really, really want the game to come out this year but this quote is detrimental to keeping that hope up.
What makes them revealing stuff soon unlikely? Theres half a month until the conference call and the beta probably wouldn't start up right then anyways. If you're saying they won't finish revealing everything until the end of the summer, theres 4 and a half months until the summer ends. If anything, I'd say its likely that those things get announced before the end of the summer, especially if 'a few' means what it usually does.
You've actually seen some of the first three Acts already, and we probably won't be revealing too much more than what we've already shown. We really want to try to keep as much a surprise for you when you play through the game the first time as possible. We will be announcing all of the game systems though before beta, so there are a few things left as far as reveals go. While beta will obviously be a lot of fun, should you get the chance to get in and help test, it'll only be a small part of the whole game. Some people want to know everything, but we're really trying to preserve the surprise and wonderment (that we hope will come with exploring Diablo III) as much as possible
They'll announce all the game systems before beta. So it starting before the may conference call is basically out of the question. The call actually stating the beta starting within a couple weeks is also unlikely.
Kinda sad but we can always hope for better. I'm guessing mid june at this point at the earliest unless blizzard has a huge info dump really quickly.

I say it's unlikely because it would be awkward given their pattern of revealing something as big as a game system at events such as gamescon or blizzcon. So to announce it online out of nowhere would be strange. This means we shouldn't be waiting for the conference call, we should be waiting for them to reveal new game systems , if we are to keep the beta in mind. This is depressing, like I said, because it undermines how important the conference call is as a source of news for the beta. It only complicates things even more, and points to even MORE waiting than we initially thought.
Question:
Wasn't the male Demon Hunter announcement made online out of the blue?
No, we don't have something to announce, but who's to say it can't happen again?

while the chances aren't looking as good as before, especially as you mentioned with Blizzard's time patterns to reveal stuff. Still, there's not too much more to reveal. Blizzard's been very quiet in a while, but i don't expect them to remain so. I hope their quiet was the silence before the storm. And now that they started talking, i can only hope they don't stop
either way, time will tell. We've waited too long to be annoyed by mere months.
The core game mechanics. Examples would be the trait system, skill system, attribute system, etc. Just all the little pieces that make up the game. There must be more systems they haven't revealed. This could mean they are still working on these hidden systems, and that's why they haven't been announced. So it seems the beta might be delayed.
No shit, haha!
But hell, i honestly don't mind anymore. I made my peace that due to real life issues i won't be able to seriously play until summer 2012. If the game isn't out by then, i'll surrender and be our forum Hamster's pet for life
I'm fairly optimistic about their revealing of "systems" fairly randomly with no warning. They've revealed stuff on several occasions that were not linked to Blizzcon or any specific event. Therefore, I see no reason why we couldn't see an "systems" announcement soon that would get the Beta rolling.
but then again, they could very well not do that. But I hope they do.

I'm leaning towards the possibility that the remaining systems are announced as the final reward for the Facebook million "likes". That still leaves time for a beta starting in the summer.

You can't get 250k likes in 1 ~ 2 months, and I gurantee thats not the going to be the way they release the rest of the system since Bashiok said he has "Specific" idea of when and how to release them.
Facebook is definetly not going to be the case since you don't know when they'll get 1 million likes.
Perhaps releasing 2~3 Youtube videos or on their main website like they did for most of their work.

So far it's an average of 25k Likes every 7 days. It's been very predictable within a day or so when each milestone would be reached. With this current rate, 1 million would be around the first week of June. More than enough time for beta to start in summer.
If last week Blizzard said they were hopeful for a 2011 release and they have to announce Beta soon than I believe Beta will be announced on May 5th. Then the only reason D3 would launch late would be as a result of the after Beta cleanup.
I think the beta has been set for a certain date for awhile now. At least since the last conference call. I think what determines if the game comes out in 2011 or 2012 is how well beta goes and how many changes they need to make from it.

Blizz does tend to announce things out of the blue if they feel like it (Artisans a month before last Blizzcon, when they could have easily just waited until Blizzcon to release the info), so announcing systems doesn't seem like too big a stretch.
I seriously doubt we won't at least hear an estimate as to when the beta is coming in the conference call regardless of when it comes out. They specifically said it would come up next time, and what else could they say about it?
My guess is the facebook likes will reveal something artsy, perhaps a new design for the Barbarian--since they mentioned they might change his lore away from being the same Barb from the last game.
