Bashiok response to a chinese website claiming to have beta keys.
"This is in no way legit. We don't have keys to give any fansites, let alone projected possibilities of potential amounts that one could maybe receive even we have any to give at some unknown point in time. There's a reason that URL is blocked."
lol. If beta keys were available to DFans right now, the front page would be exploding with info.
Edit: What Bashiok means when he says "We don't have keys to give any fansites" is that there are no beta keys for external use right now. When the time comes, we'll get them.

Beta in July still sounding good?

Oh man, I REALLY hope I can get one through Dfans, I've been opted-in forever with Blizz and never gotten into anything I had to "borrow" the key my roommate got for SC2, and I care WAY more about D3.
I suppose I can just preorder and get in eventually
Are there going to be like contests, or a raffle or something if Dfans gets keys?
Again, "CD-KEYS" won't exist due to people trying to sell them on ebay.
What I think will happen is, Blizzard will ask DFans for maybe 10 ~ 15 Bnet account, and they will have games added to it.
To be honest, Blizzard learned their mistake from Starcraft 2.
I also expect a sticky thread with a list of Dfans' email sent to Blizzard to have games added, so that 80% of them are not DiabloFans Moderator.
( only 1 or 2 should be given to the moderators who'll be posting up guides, reviews, thoughts and stream capability.
Otherwise, these keys will be misused and to their own selfishness. Which can't happen within a growing community like Dfans, where trust is everything )
Gl on however you decide to manage the Beta access

Most moderators/site administrators and staff get BETA access so why the hell do you need a damn assurence that they won't steal them? I presume that you will get an explanation of how the process actually works from one of the moderators in a few minutes...
Do you realize how wrong your assumption is.
Moderators and site administrators will not get a beta access from Blizzard.
They are decided among the Diablo fan staff on who is most likely to be able to contribute to the community.
By offering constant update with skills, acts, and contents etc...
Tossing Beta key as if this is a loose change is a wrong conception if thats what your thinking.
Not everyone can be happy, and certainly that is the same case with moderators.
None of this really matters right now as there are no beta keys anywhere for anyone. Once more information is known, DiabloFans users will be notified as to what is happening.

They don't hand out "keys" anymore i got into cataclysm beta and it wasn't a key. They just added the game to my account. So for those hoping for keys i think you may be out of luck if you don't get one direct from blizzard

Correct. The game is added to your battle.net account, and cannot be transferred to another count, etc. Of course... that doesn't stop people from trying to sell their b.net account once it's chosen for the beta, but if they catch you doing that your ass will be grass.
I have never heard of fan sites getting keys though I suppose that's possible (Perhaps even more so since they supposedly have no more DND agreements for their betas).
The only other way is luck or knowing a Blizzard employee personally.

Well I guess that counts me in then yep
I will give you guys the works, game mechanics, descriptions, videos, updates with skills, and content, game descriptions, side quests, etc, plus I am very good at finding bugs, and am very passionate about game balance.
looks like I am set being I am a prime candidate to do beta testing

How is giving something like 15 beta keys away treating them like loose change? Even if its more restricted than the SC2 beta there will still be thousands of people in the beta.
I keep going back and fourth on how I feel about Beta access. Part of me wants to play asap. Another part of me wants the very first step I take to be with the shipped game. >_< The thrill of the Blizzcon demo wore off a while ago. Oct 2008 was a long time ago...
Part of the DiabloFans Staff will get in the beta. Newsies and wiki sysops will get priority obviously because of their line of work. But considering we're a team, we'd get more info with more people playing. but I'm pretty sure we'll get actual keys to distribute to members too. I know I got such a key from a friend for Starcraft 2 and received two more later in the beta.
Usually, they allot a certain amount for a site's staff, and then a certain amount for give aways.
That's what they did with our Blizzcon tickets one year. We had like 5 free I think but only 2 could be staff, the other 3 we did contests for I think.
In the end Blizzard wants a lot of press coverage AND fan feedback. They'll probably do something similar.

^This. Nobody has any keys because beta has not started yet. However, once beta starts, this will be a different situation.

We have a team of 6 reporters, 4 wiki sysops, and 5 moderators just to run the site without any actual game to cover yet.
