They do look different but I'll hold judgement until I see Hell/Inferno gear in-game and in action The anatomical-like positions will probably be only seen in the character selection screen anyway.
Torchlight looks like WoW, if D3 looked like that, that much cartoony, THEN I wouldn't be able to play it. As it is now, it's not Path of Exile graphics but hell it's still decent.
In my humble opinion, path of exile looks bland and uninspired. The gameplay might be there, but strictly looking at the art, the color palettes are muddy and boring, and many of the armor sets and weapons look like they didn't take enough creative liberties with shapes, etc.
This post i found on reddit about Bethesda's art kind of sums up what exactly i'm trying to hone in on about Path of Exile's "art style" (though i dont think PoE really has a deliberate art style, just mediocre art...same with most bethesda games): http://i.imgur.com/7Ypk4.gif
I'm pretty pleased with Diablo 3's art though. Yeah it has happy spots that might be a bit too colorful for a game about hell and demons, but i've heard their art director mentioning the importance of contrast. Like you need a warm area for the cold areas to feel truly cold.
Like in Diablo 2, the switch over from the dry, bright act 2 to the wet, and darker act 3, it just makes it more interesting than if act 3 was a simply a slightly different type of desert. It's that contrast that keeps it interesting.
It's exactly that, that i like about the Diablo 3 art style. It's full of contrasts, it's painterly (looks like a storybook illustration) and still seems to have the "darker" stuff (siege beast from the first gameplay video). I dont think it looks like WoW at all. It definitely has a style of it's own and looks a hell of a lot better than that Diablo 3 appetizer, Path of Exile.

Thank you! damn i thought i was alone when i watched all the poe teasers and didn't like their color choices or textures.
Where he says the D3 armor looks just like WoW armor. Well here's the the side-by-side comparison.
They look nothing like each other. So stop comparing D3 to WoW. Different artists. Different developers. Different story. Different world.
