I realize many people are upset about the fact that there was no D2 HD, or D4, and like me another xpac announcement.
Still, I think we have some hope. With Diablo 3 being what it was in 2012 till now, its really come quite far. We must remember that they have only recently acquired new developers and have only began on this "new" Diablo project. With nothing to hardly show besides this character pack I understand the frustration, but we are getting what a lot of people wanted a new class, one that would always be welcomed from older games. This at least shows they are listening.
With Rise of the Necromancer pack coming, there was some details about re-doing the old D1 Tristam Dungeon (16 Levels btw) I believe we will get more info regarding the next xpac on the final level. Something down there that may possibly hint at the story were we left off. We must remember that Diablo was and all the other lords of hell was released from the black soulstone. Also that this is were Diablos soulstone was put in the first heros forehead who slayed Diablo (Then begins D2.)
To put it short, I believe we will start getting some new details towards what is to come when they do announce a new xpac. Remember the story isn't over yet and that we have some new content to see sometime soon. Let us hope they have some exciting new details come tomorrow about what they plan on doing in the future.
Blizzcon isn't over yet. We still have some things to unravel.
I don't mean this the way it will no doubt sound... but I feel bad for people like you who get doors slammed in their faces from all angles but still cling to that glimmer of hope that doesn't exist... If blizzard had something planned we'd know about it, especially at Blizzcon, and no they wouldn't wait for an art panel or something stupid to reveal it... and certainly not at the end of a dungeon that is meant to just appease us to make it seem like they don't give a shit.. which in all honesty this Blizzcon proved that.
Unless they are currently releasing something awesome in the 20th anniversary panel I doubt it... the big news was the Necro.. and honestly BFD...
A new class is half the selling point of an expansion, you don't go selling that separately unless you've given up on them.
Also the anniversary thing is a temporary event done up with VGA-esque shaders, its likely just an easter egg like the moo moo farm with no bearing on lore. The plan going forward rather looks like they want to gradually feed their daily players additional random content to enjoy rather than building campaigns for the one-and-done crowd that made up the millions of sales of the base game.

How does the Anniversary dungeon have no bearing on lore? Diablo 1 started the lore for the series, this dungeon is that game remade using D3, kinda like a nod to what started the series and a way for people to play the game if they never got the chance to play it. And the dungeon won't just be a temporary event, it will be something that happens once a year in January as it shows on the diablofans homepage in the section about blizzcon info. Hope I don't come across as rude, just genuinely curious how you think that this dungeon has no bearing on lore.
I want to believe what you said. But if they don't even bother with a new expansion @ 20th anniversary, I doubt they will do it at all.
The armory was suggested by players 292312131342 times or so, they finally got that in which is good.
The seperate inv for crafting mats is also a prettty good idea.
The retro dungeon is not what players wanted. Sure it would be pretty cool to have as the "secret cow level" @ new diablo expansion. But stand alone dungeon with movement restrictions and 1996 walk animations sound pretty boring. It is @ best a do "once or twice and forget zone".
pretty disappointing for a 20 year old game to be honest.
That retro feel thing sounds awsome until you start to play it. Ubisoft did the same with Might and Magic X Legacy and it felt terrible after the first 1-1.5 hour. They should at least change the 8 direction walking stuff.
I still have a slight glimmer of hope left. Only because the guy that was talking about the Diablo stuff during the opening ceremony just seemed like he was trolling us. The way he talked about the D1 dungeon being added and how they did extensive market research on what we wanted, so they are giving us the Necro. However, that little glimmer of hope will be snuffed out if nothing is said at todays Dev talk Q and A.
