Bashiok did state that D3 release announcment will not be waiting for any special event, it will just be announced when they're sure about it. My guess for release date would be February at earliest.
Here is the thing with online ordering, I worked at EB Games/Gamestop for several years... what they do is put in a hold date to give people to preorder the game with. It is in no way a reliable date because they do not have any inside information that Blizzard is holding from the general public.
Have a feeling that Kim's death is not going to help speed things up.
I don't think Blizzard has been working with North Korea. Would be impressive if they were.
Kim Jong Il died shortly after hearing the news about the Diablo 3 delay. He had been experiencing significant stress over the past several weeks, due to the multiple release delays, causing great mental and physical strain and finally accumulating into a fatal heart attack after hearing the devastating news of another delay. Kim Jong Il was planning on creating a Barbarian, because he felt that the class was the most overpowered and godlike.
If the region were to fall into "civil" war, I fear it would effect this game to some extent.
Sad thing is, I care more about the release date than their war.
If South Korea was honestly what's keeping Blizzard from releasing the game, then I think they would just skip them in the release with this happening. However, since it's been stated that the game simply isn't where they want it to be, then I doubt this will keep it from being released.
Also, if you think about WoW, it took Blizzard A LONG time for them to release to multiple countries (pretty sure Japan being the most recent due to its gaming problems). So, I sincerely doubt they will delay release just for South Korea.
Then again, it is Blizzard and no one knows what they are thinking so all of this could be possible, or they could even be major Kim sympathizers and that is what really is delaying the game.
Any time after May 24th, I decided that blizzard would likely take longer then expected so I took a heavy classload... then my next semester will be super light easy classes so I can maximize my D3 time! Since I did this though likely February. But probably March.

They will not take that long to get out the game, ever sense Activision bought them out they dont let them pull that shit anymore... they give them a short window to push it back in and they have to have it out in that amount of time

Vivendi bought Activision, not the other way around. They (Activision) have no say in when Blizzard games are released, and vice-versa.
I don't buy the excuse of them wanting to further improve the game. They will always want to do that. They will be doing that for years after release. They already stated (before this rmah mess) that the game was basically done and ready to play...months ago. You can't blame the rune system or anything else. Odds are 5 years from now the rune/gem/whatever system will be different anyways. Just look at their track record with WoW. If they had waited until they tweaked the talent system completely (with what's in MoP) then World of Warcraft would have had its initial release date in 2012 instead of 2004.
It's a bogus excuse. Only now (after the korean rmah mess) have they changed their tune that the game needs more tweaking before being ready.
I'm still gonna buy it. I'm gonna play the hell out of it for sure. But let's be honest here. These delays were not necessary and if they weren't scared of angering the korean player base they would go ahead and release the game. If the rmah didn't even exist then d3 would have been released in December 2011.
As for delays in other countries like WoW in China...completely different beast. Look at it this way: If Blizzard has the chance to release D3 at the same time in Korea/EU/America, but they have to wait 1 month then they'll wait. If all of a sudden it was a 9 month wait then they'd probably go ahead and release it. We have a situation here with korea has delayed the release by only a few months so they're waiting. If it was gonna be a year or something crazy then they wouldn't wait.
You wouldn't see Bashiok or anyone else admit this because it would only anger eu/american players that are already angry enough about it taking so long. So they cover it up by telling a half truth: the game needs more tweaking (which it always will for the next decade) and that because of that it's being delayed (the half that isn't true).
[Ultimate Speculation!!!] Just something on the bright side of Diablo 3's release date delayingnessnessness. You all know about the "A Day in the Life of" articles/interview Blizz had, so some of you may also know that there were initially only 3 of these interviews before the 2011-2012 pushback. But Blizz added another two to fill in some time between now and D3's release.
So, with the 3de one being released on Dec 5th and Blizz's initial aim for D3's release was "late 2011", it's quite obvious the initial 3 were spaced out (well there's not an actual pattern) from then till some time before the game was released. And lets say D3 was suppose to get released on Des 31ste (Daiblo 1's anniversary & the most possible "late 2011" date). That's about, lets say 4 weeks (1 month for even's sake).
So with the additional 2 added is there some way to predict D3's release? Since the smallest/biggest gap between interviews is roughly 1 week and 4 weeks (1 month) respectively, the 5th interview will get published sometime between mid Dec (doubt it) and Jan 20th or even a bit later if it may.
Soooo, as I said "the bright side" is that if this is to occur, we'll be seeing D3 about 1 month after the last interview, hence between Feb 20th and optimistically March 1ste.
i just went to gamestop and preordered my copy of D3 CE...and they said they have March 3rd down for release at this time. not guarenteed obviously...but its what they have right now.
I've come to the conclusion that retailer's release dates are absolutely meaningless. They probably know less than you do about when the game's coming out. Case in point - when I pre-ordered my CE at Gamestop, they had a date in December 2011 and it was after Blizzard had gone public with the "Early 2012" news.
Now that the new Twitter (sigh) beta contest is going to officially run through 1/23/2012, you have to figure the game will still be in beta for at least a couple weeks following the end of the contest. That makes me think that the release date won't be until March at the earliest. The way I see it, if they get the game out by the end of April, they can claim it to be in "Early 2012" if you consider there to be four months of "Early", four of "Middle", and four of "Late" in a year. Not that when they told us "Early" in September that April is what any of us had in mind...
I think like most I'm to the point that I care less what the actual release date ends up being and more about getting the date. I'm so sick of trying to read the tea leaves. I just don't get how until September 2011, they were shooting for a release by the end of 2011 and the end of 2011 is almost here and not only don't we have the game, but we still don't even know when we're getting the game. If that's not embarassing enough for Blizzard to give us the release date info before the end of the year, nothing is. Sadly, it just doesn't look like we're getting the release date info before the end of the year. Brutal.

Early is January to September, Middle is October and November, Late is December.
Seeing how the next beta Sweepstakes end as late as January 23rd, I don't expect Diablo 3 before summer.
Say beta ends Feb (lol sure, I'll shit gold while we're at it), 2-3 months of finishing touches, the whole packaging boxes blabla and shipping, could be out May/June.
beta's end about a couple to a few weeks tops before release there geinus... lmfao...
"the finishing touches" IS the beta.... wow. new to gaming much? epic fail first post FTW

They were giving out SC2 beta keys even after they gave an official release date. This will be late late beta testing that pretty much will let people get their feet wet before the game actually comes out and will give Blizzard a little more feedback for things that may have been missed by others in beta for patches.
Still no clue when they will release the game i have my speculations still however for a mid to late Feb. date on it.

Just thought it was funny when I read it!
South Korea has its military on alert:
