Conceptually there isn't a dedicated trap class, but the demon hunter has traps. There isn't a dedicated summoner class, but the witch doctor has summons, and to a lesser extent so do a few other classes (namely the wizard). There are two dedicated melee classes and two fairly dedicated caster classes, the monk has offensive healing utility- but is not a dedicated healer, and several classes have but are not dedicated to buffs. In terms of the amazon there is the demon hunter and the witch doctor is similar to the necromancer. So conceptually all class roles are covered that I can think of.
I would like to see a
-re-done assassin (trap/melee with stealth?),
-short-mid ranged nature/summon focused druid,
-and less than either of those, how about a vindicator/knight. Curses enemies to different effects (less damage, less resistances, heals % life upon death, snared etc), and is melee or can cast certain spells. Like a paladin/necromancer mix. For anyone who's played mediax XL, like the paladin of that mod.
The druid coming back is very likely, as there is no class with control over the winds, earth, life/living animals, or shapeshifting. The necromancer coming back is unlikely as it shares to many aspects with the witch doctor compared to the druid. Flavorwise my vote goes to the Druid as a returning class, at least in spirit.
Just a shapeshifter class I think could be a real possibility or maybe an actual demon/angel character class.
Its a bit pre-emptive... but I see it being a shield based class. There isn't really a class centered around a shield, barbs being the most applying but they lack skills to really utilize them. Barbs will mostly duel wield or use huge 2-handers, demon hunters double crossbow, wizard and witch d have their own offhands, and monks will likely use fists or whatever gives them the most damage.
i know this is early (since D3 will be out "soon") but i want to ask community
what class do you expect or wish to see in expansion. Do you think Blizzard will
put some old class from D1 or D2 or something completely different ???
I personally would like to see necromancer again since that is my favorite from D2 !
Maybe someone who read all books regarding Diablo could tell us something...
Since most of content comes with a huge background.
I'll second the hope for a Necromancer, and in regards to the books I'm somewhat surprised that it wasn't included because of the tremendous importance Necromancers played in the books, especially the Sin War in preserving the balance.
I understand, though, that the play style from D2 seems to be already included in the WD. Thus, what about a re-imagined approach to Necromancers. Any thoughts?
Someone stated an Alchemist would be nice with the ability to use thrown bombs / glass vials to do what you need in an area. No other ranged attacks but melee style oils / potions for the weapon enhancements.
Elementalist would be nice with the ability to summon and power over the elements. You have a choice of picking Fire, Air, Water, and Earth.
Or expand on the elementalist but in the realm of Metals and Crystals.
I think the necro will be back but also i see a druid and I do still feel we need a shield/ one handed fighter maybe a very improved pally with shild based skills.
I was hoping to see more of a heavily priest based/ tank based class. Something that uses holy energies... Well i know we have the monk but i was thinking of something more caster based i guess?
Anyways would be nice to see Demon Hunter use guns or maybe a new class in D3 Expansion that weilds guns. *Pew Pew*
I would personally love to see the druid come back. Instead of focusing on only one shapeshift (as they did in D2), it would be cool to see one like Udyr from LoL. He would transform into a new form for an active effect (stun, shield, etc) and his new form would have a passive effect, like increased armor or splash damage. So you would have a druid constantly shifting into new animals while fighting.
Well, definitely NOT runes/runewords like Diablo 2's expac. Runewords (after patch 1.10) were way too good and and took a lot of the fun out of finding godly rares and other items. For a lot of classes, Enigma was absolutely necessary. Runeword weapons removed the utility of a lot of godly rares in a lot of circumstances, making your former trophies only decent. Runes became a currency and getting a lot of the best items in the game became almost like acquiring the most "wealth," eliminating the opportunity for a casual player to find an item that would send the most hardcore players scrambling. There are still a TON of rares in D2 that are far better than any unique or runeword, but the impact is a lot smaller. Finding good items in D2 sort of taps into our gambling addiction and makes it incredibly fun. Runewords hurt that. I'd like to see the expansion try to keep what was, to me, the cornerstone of Diablo's success: mfing and uber rare godly items. Some people say PvP in D2 was a big element, I disagree. I think getting uber rare items so that you can show them off in PvP was the biggest draw.
My biggest fear is that Blizzard will get away from this spirit of the game, which I think a lot of people don't realize is the real thing that keeps you coming back. I think a lot of Diablo players are collectors by nature.
I must honestly say I would love a necromancer! I played a necromancer throughout Diablo II when I was active there. I've allways had this thing for magic when it comes to being a menace to the creeps of hell!

I like this and agree completely, a shield based class would be awesome. Something like a hoplite maybe.

Looking forward to see what do you think....
I hope they use some of the old ones instead of bringing more new classes.
A lot of people are saying Druid is most likely to return, but I disagree. There is a lot of darkness/evil in the character archetypes we have so far - Demon Hunters, Witch Doctors etc. dealing in the "dark arts" but no Holy Avenger. I think a Paladin class is most likely to return. Also, there has been a thread on this before, use the search function!
I Imagine that they will do the same as with diablo2, make an expansion with 2 more classes in it :D. I personally would like to have necromancer back. lol, 20 skeletons at once. Its just sorta op

Personally I would love to see the Paladin make his return as our 1-handed, shield bearing champion. Putting aside personal preference, the character I see most likely making a return is... well... The Paladin! He is amazingly popular among most Diablo players and really does fit what is missing at this point in time. A 1-handed shield bearing champion...

Since there will be two more expansions I would imagine there to be only one class released for each. That is not to say I wouldn't be happy with four new classes by the end of the series!
Although the Necro was my favorite class, I don't think it will happen. Blizzard has already said that new classes will be "things we have never seen before." Given that there are 2 expacs coming, I would guess that the new classes will either be hybrid physical/magic(ranged) or one expac will have a pure physical and the other pure ranged/magic. i'm sure a pet class will come back being there is only one in this game.

I like the idea of a new class making its way in.
