So in D2, there were potions and items that would give your character either stat points, stat buffs or skill points to spend. This added to customization in D2.
Is there any confirmation that items like this will be in D3? It would be nice for character customization.

What are you talking about?
A few pre-determined quest reward that everybody can get = customization? You are referring to "consumable" items of any kind that gives something permanent, right?
Just having them is no customization. Maybe some quests will give permanent rewards like those, we don't know. However they won't be giving you anything to "spend", since there is -nothing to spend-.
I'm aware in D2 using consumables to buff your stats wasn't much customization, because you could choose stats every time you leveled. In D3, stats are pre-selected which means every character of a specific class will have the same stats at the same level. If itemization is the only way to differentiate characters, that's fine, I was just wondering if there would be other ways as well.
techniquely it was slighly added customization. 12 extra skill points and 15 extra stats... in the grand scheme of things it didn't add customization but allowed for you to have a few excess points?
they were gonna go with this but another thing scrapped from Diablo 3 sigh. It kinda sucks looking back at all the new things they were gonna throw in though and just remove it all down to basics of all basics.
Extra skill points won't work cause we won't have skill points.
Extra stats (or stats customization) are only obtained through the supposedly much superior item game in D3 (in the sense that we will actually have more end-game build-defining choices than the few considered the best that we had in D2).
In the end, the sheer amount of skills (supposedly all viable too) in D3, and the better item game should make a much better game customization wise - I'm not worried about that honestly.
Those were one-time quest rewards and didn't add any customization because there was no choice/restrictions and everybody had all of them, so all it did was modify the baseline stats.
We definitely can't go back to what D1 had either, though with the permanent stat boosting potions that dropped. Eventually you'd just have all max stats

I think he's also referring to rewards like the first one in D2, where you'd get a skill point, or another one later down the road where you'd get "stats points". Getting the items wasn't customization, but how you spent it was.
