Real money for game items have been going on forever in every multiplayer game with some persistance. Only this time Blizzard figured it can provide a safe trade environment while making some money on the side.
1. Blizzard doesn't sell items, players do.
2. If it pays for the infrastructure so I don't have to pay a fee, it's all good.
3. There are so many gold sinks in the game gold will retain at least some value, so I'll still be able to buy stuff I want for gold instead of dollars.
4. PVP in Diablo 3 will be as serious as it was in D2: not serious at all. If you want a serious and balanced PVP environment, go play a different game. Not every Blizzard game has to be an e-sport.
Obviously, if a new player starts practicing pvp he'll eventually get good at it. What this guy is saying and you are failing to understand is that a completely NEW player will get crushed in the arenas IN THE BEGINNING from players that have been playing since release, even if he buys gear.
Yes, lol IQ indeed...
What's the point in comparing newbs to veterans? Wouldn't it make more sense to be comparing two players of roughly equal skill and time invested in the game?
And then my point stands - for two players that are roughly equally skilled in gaming, if one were to spend their time farming for gear while the other bought their gear outright and spent their time PvP'ing instead, the PVPer will clearly have an advantage.
Twisting this basic fact around by claiming that the farmer will have spent much time playing the game while the buyer is new to the game is like comparing apples with oranges.
I work 40 hours a week and make a useful contribution to society. I can't play Diablo 3 for 60 hours a week grinding the hell out of everything to get gold or the lucky drop. Why should I have to devote hundreds of hours of playing time to gear up when I am happy to pay $10 and be done with it?
I can't think of a single game that isnt korean that blatantly sells power for money.
Check out Age of Conan shop. I'm sure you'll find it enlightening.
Think of all those pesky Facebook games. Seriously, RMAH had been announced MONTHS prior the game launch, if you want to complain about something, here's a list:
- Inferno is too hard for melee
- Acts 1 and 2 drops too many low level items
- Mandatory online gaming with too many unavailable hours due to maintenance
- Auction House always broken
And many more, just pick one and hordes of players will back you up.
"Nodoby ever sells power for money" <-- stopped watching after that. Please do some research and avoid making statements about things you know nothing about.

1. inferno is too hard for noobs* (fixed)
2. they are buffing the loot of hell act 3-4 and inferno act 1-2.
3. too few hours? so 6 hours ONE DAY a week in the morning is too much? WOW you live a very sad life
4. it was glitchy for awhile in the beginning but thats with ANY game launch. its been working perfectly for most people for weeks.

The key here is that RMT has existed in Diablo since the beginning and without changing the game drastically it's completely unavoidable. Also in D1/D2 the "average" player was at an even larger disadvantage because even if they were willing to spend money, many of them didn't know where it was safe to buy items. So blizz decided since it's going to happen anyway let's make it as fair and safe as possible for players by offering it ourselves and hey we can make some money off it too.
It was going to happen anyway so I'd much rather see it available and safe for anyone that wants to use it while also making blizz more money to make more awesome games =P
I would be more angry at the people who live off welfare and similar benefits and play games like diablo all day instead of contributing to society than some guy who put in a full 40 hour week and decided that 1 or 2 hours of his pay was worth an item that would have taken some semi-homeless society leacher all week to farm.
Oh good grief. The bottom line is this is a Game. Even for PvP, there is no ladder or truly competitive aspect to the game.
If someone has the money and is willing fork it out for X uber item, how does this affect your gameplay? You can only ever have 4 persons in a co-op game. Every semi-serious D3 player will have at least 1 lvl 60 character. So again, how does this in any way affect your character or your game aside from your delicate sensibilities.
Also please stop making wide ranging remarks essentially boiling down to asian countries having no morals and how the western countries are such paragons. The asian culture is very straight forward and simple in some aspects. People want those +XP items or uber items for sale and so the developers have included them into the game. The evidence is in the amount of money those same developers are raking in. It sure hasn't hurt those games in any manner.
Only certain individuals from the west seem to have this heightened moral standard decrying such actions as cheating. I've got news for you, everyone cheats. It's called human nature. Every mod created for a game is essentially a cheat. And let's not forget the most important issue, this is a game with no competitive aspect to it.
I personally won't be spending money in the AH, but I'm not adverse to it either. And I can't speak for the future. But if someone found an awesome item, puts it up on RMAH for sale vs the gold AH, I really don't see a difference. Either someone spending 80 hours in game farming gold buys it or someone working 80 hours IRL buys it. What's the difference?
Pay to Win doesnt happen. Pay To Win refers to having to pay to get the best gear in the game, and it must NOT be avaible through ANY other means. In D3, you can farm for the best gear out there and have it drop for you (Will it takes you a long time? yes, is it possible? definetly).
Also, the game doesnt sell you power, unlike korean games. It'S an auction house, it is NOT the game giving you a shop to buy power. This makes it entirely different in my opinion.
About Mandatory Online Gaming... And exactly WHO would you be doing pvp against in an Offline scenario?
1. Paying real money for items is going to happen, whether Blizzard officially sanctions it, or not. Through the RMAH, players can at least be guaranteed a safe, expedited experience.
2. 'Pay 2 Win' means nothing in the context of D3. Who are you paying to win over? Diablo? Is Diablo going to be mad that you're buying items to kick his ass harder? Is it Tyrael? Is Tyrael offended that you have besmirched your honor by spending real money for items?
3. PvP will feature automated matchmaking. You will only ever be matched against people of approximately your same gear level, with an internal ELO rating matching you against players of comparable skill. If you buy power, you'll simply be matched against more powerful people. Completely negating any claims of 'pay 2 win'.
For some games, involving real money is an actual detriment, which has the potential to harm gameplay and fun. Diablo 3 is not one of those games.

Exsanguis716 you are a moron. Want views for your yt chanell? Miserable greedy filth. Power for money means you can buy special items. But this IS an AUCTIONS , IMBECILE! You Cuold write your point of view in 2 sentences - yet you make video so every one watch your crappy vid
I tend to avoid typing, I'd rather just speak whats on my mind, 1 video of 50+ is a discussion video, man I'm such a douchebag(sarcasm).

Everything you've said is pretty much true, but if the game detects gear, and if skill does matter, then wouldn't it suck to get some bad kid who spend $400 on your team when you are doing the random matched pvp ?
real money? nothing new. People will eventually become geared enough to farm act 3-4 inferno which essentially means you're eligible to gain more "power". Don't read forums or look at other player's gear to avoid feeling butthurt for the amount of e-peen you are lacking.
You're right, there is a power for money thing going here, and it will effect PvP, but not the way you think. The people who earn their gear are going to be extremely good at using their character from having to have farmed act 3/4 inferno for hours upon hours. On the other hand, you can ding to level 60, spend $100 and get a badass character, but you'll get DESTROYED in PvP because PvP is going to have a matchmaking system similar to Starcraft 2. This means the people who are legitimately badass and good at playing their character will have a massive advantage from those who just bought it and jumped right in.
Luckily the only thing meaningful in PvP is the lulz.
On a more serious note. At its very current state, the RMAH is utterly useless. It's filled with people that reek of greed, and think they can sell sub-par items for $20+. That's not saying people won't buy them.
But as said by others, even if Blizzard didn't make the RMAH. There would be plenty of third party websites where someone could buy items. If there's a will, there's a way.
I don't get upset with people who pay for their prons. I even find them humorous. I don't need it super high quality. I find ways around this and every once and a while I find a great gem in them free sites.
