It's just that's so easy to find a really good source for very cheap prices nowadays, and that's mostly because people aren't able to sort out and check the current "market price" for a 350+ source (same goes for items with 4-5 good affixes, hard to price them) If there was a way to check for prices, I'm sure people would price their orbs a lot higher
Just like searching for good items with low bids that are about to end is so rewarding. If everyone could sort their searches for "time left" or "increasing bid", it would be that much harder to find a good deal (and a lot less satisfying).
Hey guys, I'm glad everyone is feeling frustrated with the lack of a fourth search. It's sleep time for me now, but when I get up I'm going to test the 800 x 600 UI to see if that is the problem (I imagine it is), and see if I can figure out a way to improve on that. Also going to provide a screenshot of a 5 search field option, which you will see looks only mildly more cluttered than the 4.
I'm surprised this received a (mostly) unanimous level of support. Makes me think that my brain is doing something right.
Just did a quick test, 800 x 600 is a practically identical UI with practically identical spacing. This can not be the reason why it isn't implemented, so 'UI space' is bs.
As for the person mentioning they don't change UI.... They changed a whole host of the UI in the first couple of patches, including an entirely remodeled friends list and chat window.
EDIT: Sleep time for realsies now. I am going to make a post on Blizz forums tomorrow with the following additions to my initial post
TAB key should change input fields, mouse should not be required once categories have been selected
Switching from RMAH to GAH or vice versa should not erase search contents. People like to compare item prices between the two, and will do so even more once Gold trade has been implemented
5 Search boxes provides barely any UI cramp, and should be implemented, at the minimum 4 should exist, as per pictures
If only adding 4 search boxes, a button that will not include the stats of gems into your search query should be allowed! I'd like to see a 130 dex BASE armor with 3 sockets, not a 130 dex TOTAL armor because the dude has 3 42 dex gems in an armor with 0 base dex.
Fixes to current searches that provide no filtering. Health Globes heal extra is a good one, there are a number of other ones that editting the # in the 'min' field simply doesn't work
Selecting a legendary should not mean that I can't search for specific stats on that legendary.
Class/Character selection should have an 'All Items' option, that way nothing is greyed out and I do not have to input extra amounts just because I want to search for a 1h crossbow, and then a monk fist, and then a barb belt. A lot of players use the AH to compare prices on their current loot for selling purposes.
A fix to 'input limit reached' when buying a large quantity of crafting materials. Heck, while you're at it please make all stack sizes equal (999) so I can get those 12,000 gems out of my completed tab, thanks. Unless Blizzard can provide an adequate and non arbitrary reason for making stack sizes completely different (30/100/999)
I'd like a 9 and 10 to be submitted by you guys. I'll be up in about 6 hours Hope to hear from you all then!
As much as I would like a 4th option I think having limited options has helped find deals in the AH... i.e. if you mess around with your filters enough you can find deals that most people don't find and if everyone has an easier time finding things you wouldn't necessarily find said item.
EDIT: I still voted for the 4th option

They should really let you add as many criteria as you want and not limit you to 3, 4, 5, etc. They could display a popup to add new criteria and then in place of the current 3 field search they could show a scrolling list of the criteria you added with little "X"'s that allow you to delete specific criteria.
I mean, it's just a stupid AND'ing criteria search so the logic isn't complicated to do the above. Sure the UI would need some tweaks, but that's simple too.

More importantly... Imagine you would find your dream-item always - you would buy less items on the AH, meaning less money (or goldsink with the GAH) for them. I often bought an item giving me a small increase (for a reasonable price of course) because I couldnt find a better item with this stupid search options... just to look for a better one the next day again
So: bad search options -> more income for Blizzard
Hmm yes good point, but I'm just saying if it is super easy to find items you're less likely to press the "buy out" button (in time) since many other people would be doing the same thing. I foresee a lot of over paying for items when/if this option is applied.

Of course this is good for us users if it was possible. However having 4 search options might not be there for very good reasons. Perhaps it takes a lot of strain on the computers handeling the search or something like that. I think they would have added it otherwise.
Except that Blizzard stated it was purely a UI concern when asked back when the game started. I agree, it's probably a back end issue, I just don't see why they can't be open and honest regarding it.
Without a doubt a 4th would be wonderful and help make the chore of slogging through the market more efficient.
There's much more to be done than that; however, I would simply recommend Blizzard's team in charge of the AH programming take a look at EVE Online's market UI for inspiration rather than make individual suggestions. After playing EVE for so many years every other game market seems horrific and under-developed.
There are so many things wrong with the AH imo. Extra search functions is just 1. They need to add a lot of functions, not just 1 extra search function. Here are some things I believe would make the AH less frustrating;
1) Allow up to 5-6+ search tabs.
2) Allow searching for damage on items that is currently unavailable for certain items (rings, offhands, etc...)
3) Allow sorting by time left and current bid, not just buyout price.
4) Not really an AH function, but show, even if in a game, if an item has been sold.
I am sure there are more things that could improve the AH, but these are the ones I could come up with off the top of my head. This would help players to be able to play diablo more and play auction house hero less.

I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want this. Wait, I can. I wouldn't want this
C-c-c-c-combo breaker Just kidding guys.

I like this idea too.
Sorry for hte double post. I thought it would coagulate them like on mmo champ.
Furthermore legendaries should have a better search function and stats gained from gems in a socket shouldn't affect the search.

give us more options!
why limit it to 3 when there can be 6 props on items.
more search function > pretty design any day, imo.
