I took the time to register and make a name after a tedious amount of time trying to read the captcha but well here I am.
I was banned for creating a topic that centered around "which cat mob do you hate the most" in which my reply was "lacuni hunter."
I was promptly banned on the spot for 1 week with no reason other than "spam/trolling" while the CMs can post any irrevelant post on any off topic thread they want without following community guidelines.
I am writing here for more information about other people who had to deal with CMs and their abuse of power and if they ever got any feedback from emails they sent to blizzard regarding abuse of power by CMs.
For reference this is the email I sent tonight, I don't expect a reply but I might as well try... one person is not match against a billionaire dollar corporation.
Hello,
There has been at least 1 CM abusing their right of posting by detailing their personal lives with his/her cat in a "General Discussion" thread on the Diablo 3 forums. The guidelines clearly state that posts on the "General Discussion" section should only pertain to Diablo 3 related topics.
Upon creating a thread (I can't look up my past threads/posts as they have all been deleted) but it was something like "what diablo 3 cat do you hate the most" in my reply I responded "lacuni hunter" as it is a cat and related to Diablo 3. I was banned for a week for posting this as "spam/trolling" when all I tried to do was make a legitimate post about mobs pertaining to cat-like features.
I can only imagine I was banned because said CM that posted about his/her cat going to work with him/her was offended by my post for a reason I cannot understand at the moment.
I would like my ban to be lifted as I never went against the guidelines or rules of the "General Discussion" section in Diablo 3. CMs however seem to abuse the rules daily as they never respond to constructive posts and only reply to random "neutral" threads that have nothing to do with Diablo 3.
Although I find my banning comical and immature, I decided to write an email anyway. I can't help to think that my banning was related to a personal issue that a CM had with me. I've been posting on the Diablo 3 forums since May 15th and never had any problems. I would appreciate it if you looked into this matter and I am neither a "spammer" or a "troll" as I am made out to be by whoever banned me.
I would like to continue posting constructive feedback and replying to those in need of help and would not like to be bullied by a CM abusing their power. I hope whoever reads this looks into this and not consider this email as "spam."
Thanks for your time. I am expecting a reply with my situation and hope it gets sorted out within 24 hours.
You sure are making a big 'ol stink about this, ain't ya? Sending E-mails, signing up to random sites to spread the word, even demanding they "sort it out" within 24hours.
Why don't you be honest? Link us to the thread. Show some evidence since you want to make a federal case out of it. I smell something fishy. You're "forgetting" to mention some detail, aren't you?
There's 'always' some detail that the OP conveniently forgets to tell us. Always.
That said, from what I can tell it sounds like the OP made a thread like this:
Thread Title: Which cat mob do you hate the most?
Content: lacuni hunter.
...That's it. If this is the case, then that is clearly spamming. There's basically nothing to discuss, nor anything of any worth to anyone. All the topic would become is people writing 1-2 word answers, then eventually someone would make a HI-LARIOUS post about how he loves 'pussy', you'd get a bunch of teenaged morons replying going 'hurr hurr +1 would read again', then someone would insult that guy for being an idiot, then insults would fly back, and it'd just derail into a flamefest.
So that thread would contribute nothing to the forums except a flame thread. Yeah, it got locked. Maybe the ban was unwarranted, but let's be honest: the CMs use a pyramid system for punishes. In other words, they get steadily more severe as you keep offending. Can't remember exactly how it goes, but you should get a warning first, then a small ban, then a large ban, then a perma ban. Maybe more steps along the way.
So you didn't just get banned for making a dumb thread, you got banned for whatever you did before as well.
Also, in your email, you really have a hell of an ego. CMs having something personal against you? Yeah, keep believing that. It's totally not because you broke the rules. Nope, a CM hates you so much that they banned you for no good reason. You're not as important as you think you are.
I wish people wouldn't join this forum solely to QQ.
Do you know how many people have created an account here just to post a topic about how they got banned from the official forums? I see this shit at least once or twice a week!
I actually enjoy when CMs post about anything. Even if it's not important to the game. It makes the forums seem more alive and reminds us they are reading the posts, most of them. It makes BLizz feel more personnal than corporate too.
The Cat comment was dubiously and subtly aimed at having people strating to bash the CM cat. The bann was maybe a bit harsh, i'll admit but the topic was lame.
Anyway, I hope that CM keeps posting on the forum and doesn't abandon it like the rest of them.
they have a rude community over there
You tried to make an example out of the CM's, instead they made an example out of you.
If you had issue with what they were posting, you should have just sent the feedback email and not have tried to show out on the forums. You know full well that finding out peoples least favorite cat mob was not the intent of your post, it was to make a point about CM cat posts in a passive agressive manner. So even though you may have a point or even be in the right, you know better next time than to act a fool and call someone out in their own house. Again, not saying the posts they made follow guidelines or not, i am saying your post was a dig directed straight at them and therefore at least worthy of locking and deletion, the week long ban may be a little heavy, but you fail to mention if its your first infraction with Blizz, so i cant really comment more on that.
as for the CM posting about her cat - She/he did not create a specific thread to see to it that it's discussed what your most hated feature of said cat is.
Very important line there.
There's really nothing wrong with following the flow of discussion, so long as that discussion doesn't become detrimental to the boards. If a thread evolved into a chat about cats and a CM posted in it, who cares? No one in the thread got banned for it becuase that would be unreasonable.
Making a separate thread to call out CMs in a passive-aggressive and snide manner, though, is crossing the line. They're CMs, they are not your bitches and Blizzard didn't hire them to do as you (OP) think they should do. They are there to interact with the community and sometimes that involves opening up as to what kind of pet they own or what their favorite all-night-gaming-session snack is.
Remember, there is a human on the other end of every keyboard. Getting to know said humans is rarely a bad thing nor is it something that the CMs (or any poster, in general) should have to avoid outright because the Sword of Damocles is threatening.
There is a huge difference between what the forum rules are attempting to root out and what you (the OP) think they're attempting to root out. For fuck's sake, I laughed at the whole cat thing when I saw it on DiabloFans homepage today. It's about time the battle.net forums got some levity to them and moved away from 24/7 trolling and whining and raging.
Creates spam thread to whine about being unjustly banned for creating spam threads.
I detect a pattern here...
Ok I am agreeing with you far too often today Scary, right?
OP, yeah, get a grip. The mods over there are not overly vindictive and put up with a lot of crap. I'm a mod on a few programming forums and I wouldn't put up with half of what people post over there. I don't believe that they banned you for one innocent discretion. Don't buy it for a second. I imagine that you have incurred many offenses and this is the one that broke the camel's back.
You also seem to be under the impression that you are created equal with the mods. You're not. There are no constitutional protections at play here; if the mods want to bend some rules once in a while they can, it's there prerogative. That doesn't mean it gives you that liberty.
Regardless of whether the suspension was warranted or not (don't really care), I only wish they'd put that much effort into actioning people that clog the class forums with trading posts.
Yes, I was just thinking that myself in another thread... What have you done with the real BigEd?
That BigEd was getting overly aggressive... I felt the need to take him down a notch and stick to cordial debate instead of joining in emotional, personal attacks/arguments. I looked back at some of my previous posts and didn't like much of what I saw, even if I haven't changed my mind about the argument I was making.
