I've been pondering about the fact that this game has a lot of negativity all around, specially when it comes to the economy and items. That's not good for the community of the game.
That said, I think it would be nice if we help those who are struggling with finding items and levelling their chars.
I'm not saying we should give away those godly items that will certainly make you rich, but those items that you used or find along the way and that are not really worthy of an AH slot and vendoring them is just an annoying way to get rid of.
For instance, I have a couple of wands and sources that can't be sold and I think they would be helpful for anyone who's playing a wizard. So if anyone is in need of medium-low items to upgrade a bit your char add me and I'll gladly give it away.
But don't be greedy, if I see you have two level 60 chars with awesome items you certainly don't need them so be fair ok?

You should indicate your realm i.e. US EU etc
I would also be willing to help out any new players that are struggling with inferno with some gears I have sitting about. My mule is overburdened. I play (US)
I've been doing this for a while, but usually to pubbies who have no idea what happened whenever I begin raining rares/legendaries on them in the middle of their games before suddenly disappearing again.
I think the most ridiculous "aid" I lent to a single player was giving away a Deadman's Legacy and Inna's Temperance to one of my DH friends who was struggling.
Combined, I could've sold those two items for 100M or so, but instead I just gave them both to him. I guess it was for the better considering that he plays nearly every single day now after being MIA for the last month and a half.
I also handed him a 1150 DPS crossbow with 40% natural crit, over 200 vitality, and an open socket, in addition to a cheap Inna's Favor I found to go with the Inna's Temperance. Helped manage to bump his unbuffed DPS by 40K and HP by 20K.
Probably won't be donating like that again anytime soon

Very generous of you. But I don't think it was ridiculous or even un-selfish. Whenever I find an item I first think about if one of my friends needs it, and then about the AH. We're a group of people making our way through Diablo 3, and if anything makes our group stronger, it's fine. Even if you don't play with that friend right now, at some point he might join you for an uber fight and you'll be glad that you provided him with that extra DPS.
What I really like is the idea of giving items to total strangers, like when you mentioned raiding in the middle of some pubbies. That must be pretty awesome, when you're struggling to clear your way through the dungeon and then there's an Archon popping up in the middle of the fight, absolutely melting everything. Hmmm... maybe I should put on my DPS gear and join a pub game, could be fun ;-)

FYI, the stats were approximately as follows:
Deadman's Legacy
198 dex
180 vitality
19% attack speed
9.5% crit chance
+hatred regen
+elemental arrows bonus
Inna's Temperance
100 dex
80 vitality
9% attack speed
+crit
+movement
