Reason being: As a solo player, getting disconnected costs you rift fragments, blood shards, bounty progess etc. And these disconnects are rather frequent during the past days/weeks. There's already a 13 pages thread in the eu tech forums about that. But whatever that is and whether it gets resolved or not, giving us that resume-option would make it a non-issue.

I got disconnected last Friday or Saturday, can't remember which, but twice the same day, in Bounties, and I don't think I've ever had an issue before that. Very weird. Would have loved to reconnect to the bounty.
Local saved state is a good idea, however I think probably too ripe for abuse in some fashion. As far as I can tell there are only three ways to close out of a game. Leave Game, Exit Diablo and a disconnect. Two of these methods involves clicking something in game that is registered on the server side. How about when you leave a game the server looks for the "Leave Game" or "Exit Diablo" event. If that event is missing, then keep the game open for 60-90 seconds to allow players back in to resume...
While it would be nice, dropping a game isn't the end of the world. So you were 3 in on a 5 bounty, you keep your gold, exp etc, just start over. ( you may want to count to ten, I do get it)
Rift's solo again, not a huge deal, and when the cost drops, less so of a big deal.
Now, when that green is sitting in front of you on the ground and you disconnect, you just know it wasn't Blackthornes, maybe a bigger deal (you may want to count to ten, maybe ten times)
It's an online game, it could happen, you should know that going in and you should realize no system's perfect. That said, you might wanna check immediate surrounding area before letting loose the Rant of Wrath.

It's also not the end of the world when your cat fails to hit its toilet. However even the first time is not a nice experience and if that becomes a frequent occurence, it can get pretty frustrating.
Campaign mode basically only saves checkpoint/quest/waypoint progress. It doesn't remember what mobs you killed or even what spawned. Assuming they aren't going through the work to implement full zone saving just because you complained about it, you can't really get much more than remembering which bounties you did towards completing an act. For example, saving rift progress wouldn't work because you could just farm the same rift mobs all day long minus the rift boss.
What would be more reasonable/likely is a reconnect feature. Keep a game alive for a short time if it would've ended due to disconnect, and let players rejoin it on login. Wasn't something like this eventually implemented in D2 even?

Yeah D2 had it, widely used for drop-muling. The game had to have been open for a certain amount of time; after that, it would persist for a little while even if you left. I remember using it all the time to transfer items of mild value between characters. For items of higher value I made the effort to fire up a second copy of D2 on my girlfriend's PC, where my second key was installed.

What? Me worry?
What a novel idea!
Although I'm sure Josh would say that co-op is the "disconnect prevention" feature.

...and then do it all over again.
