Is anyone else on a mac having frame rate issues? In the skeleton king's room, both a friend and I (both on mid-late 2009 macbook pros) get 9-10 fps. This makes the game borderline unplayable. We are both on snow leopard and I feel like it should run it around at least 20-35 fps.
The graphics processor in that model of Mac is barely enough to run the game. You'll have to lower all details and drop the resolution to have a chance. You may see an improvement if you use Windows via Boot Camp, but you can't expect miracles.
The reality is that most pre-2011 non-gaming laptops are unable to provide a good Diablo 3 experience.
This is ALL over the mac tech support forums on battle.net, It doesn't matter how good your mac is or what kind of hardware you're running, it's the way the Mac OSX is running the game. It's the same across the board, everyone is getting very very low fps even when running on the lowest possible setting.
I'm using the same model as you are and many people on the mac forums are using 2010 models but they still have the 9400M graphics card. My game was alright except for when i went outside, and Act 4 is completely unplayable.

It's not ALL over the Mac Tech forum. Most you see with issues are running with a 9400M, which I wouldn't expect to do that well. Especially since the majority are still on Snow Leopard.
@op...Snow Leopard is part of your troubles. Lion is going to run it quite a bit better.

I was considering this, however I saw very mixed results. Some people said upgrading improved gameplay, but most others said it did not fix anything. Considering how I just spent $60 on a game I can't play, I'm a bit hesitant to drop another $30 on a POSSIBLE solution. Can anyone confirm that this will help? Honestly if I can get the game to just run consistently at 20 fps I'd be happy, but it is impossible and not even worth it to play at 9-13 fps.
its not snow leopard, I have lion and it runs just as bad. It's something on blizzards end that they have to fix. They're aware of the problem and have been "investigating" the issue.
Im on a macos as well (nvidia 8600) and it is pretty jerky especially if a lot of fire effects are around.
The fire effects are making this game unplayable. I'm on a late 2009 Macbook (white unibody) upgraded with 8GB ram. The game runs well enough in dungeons or in building, poorly outside, and it's unplayable in the burning town. While I didn't expect my MB to run on anything but the absolute lowest settings, I'm still well above the minimum requirements and the game is pretty unplayable.
Anyone find any magic Macbook tips? I haven't tried running it in low resolution yet, so I'll try that.
Just a quick update... it helps a TON by lowering the res all the way to 800x600. Stil choppy in Wortham but wayyy more playable. Highly recommend this to anyone still having FPS problems.

That is not true. My Mac is 3 years old, and I run 60 FPS smoothly on high graphics settings. I don't have an nVidia GPU, though. Mine's an ATI 4870. The client is fine, even on my three year old box. (1920x1080, if anyone wants to know.)
Macs with nVidia GPUs should run Bootcamp to game. That's an Apple/nVidia problem, not a Blizzard issue. Blizzard can only try to work around the mess Apple and nVidia created with nVidia's crappy drivers.
From my experience, and I know you guys probably don't want to hear this, but using bootcamp with Windows XP makes the game MUCH faster. I'm on a 2008 MBP with 9600M GT video. I get 12-20FPS in OSX and over 60 in XP...
I have my fingers crossed for performance patch to come one day. :-/

You have an nVidia GPU, so yes, you took the best option. nVidia won't fix their Mac drivers. Blizzard really can only work around that mess, they can't 'fix' it. So Bootcamp is your best option.
I have an ATI GPU, so I'm good to go running in OS X.
