Some people say that there was no pvp in D2 but something more like a pk. To be honest I loved it in there. For me Diablo 3 doesn't has any kind of Duel/ PvP/ Arena or anything else. I seen in D4 gameplay trailer a little fight between two players. Could that be a pvp like in D2 where each players hit the 'hostile' button and then 'go' and start? Or just a 'pk' hunting another player around the huge open world map that we'll have
I would expect it to have an on/off toggle but due to the limited nature of the open world as they've described, I expect some type of arena or battleground mode to be available.
I wish they will take the game seriously this time and do justice to the brand. I have no expectations myself though. I wish we will have at least a pk feature in the open world. But D3 also promised a lot and cut out feature after feature during beta. They also did blogs and listened to the community but in the end it was a mess.
I wish a lot of things for D4 to get right , but I won't be fooled twice.
D3 was designed from the ground up with no focus on PvP. They were going to have an arena that you could brawl in but it was to be unbalanced and there was no emphasis on esports. I think they eventually added the mode but I don't know anyone that took part in it.
I personally think PKing is stupid, but at least in D2 you can make private games and thus avoid it. I am doubtful they'd introduce a system of that nature without a toggle in an open world system.
At blizzcon they said there will be pvp zones where everybody in that/these zones will have "pvp enabled". Guess that means that outside these zones, pvp will not be possible.

Makes sense. I would like arena. A few nice looking good design arenas. Something like you can see in Lost Ark arena pvp gameplays. Looks awesome!
I would love to see something on the same lines as the Wilderness in RS, where the deeper you go the greater the PvE rewards but also the greater the risk of getting PKed.
Remind guys that PVP even on Diablo 2 was crap without balancing rules. Who did these rules? Players, for themselves.
Thou shall do the rules then. !
Me personally I'm not looking forward to a similar pk like in D2. Just hope that will be a system when you can provoke someone for duel or arena or something more organized anyway but simple and balanced.
Bringing in PKing like in D2 wont work in this day and age. Back in D2 people just played games for fun, so they didn't mind just making PK games and spending huge amounts of time to build a dueling character even though there was absolutely nothing to get from it.
Nowa days unless there is some sort of reward, ranking, balance etc. to it almost nobody will do it. D3 is the perfect example of this, nobody PvPs in D3. The option is there, but there's nothing to be gained from it so nobody does it. People could make rules in it enjoy it just like they did in D2 but they don't.
Personally I'd like to see a runescape Wilderness like thing built, where the enemies had increased rewards but the zones were shared and pvp was enabled meaning players actually fought over the area to get the rewards. Something like this would marry the pve-loot farming thing of ARPGs with PvP. Although I fear this would end up just getting overrun with guilds of 20+ players effectively owning the zone for themselves so don't know how you would balance that.
I just hope that due to the game being always online and always multiplayer in nature (in the outer-world at least), there will be a way to stay out of PVP/PK action without compromising the experience. I'm fine with Blizz trying to bring back PK and PVP in a way, but I really never cared or even liked it. In D2, it made it so that I would only play on private games with friends or solo. A playstyle I actually adopted in D3, I've played thousands of hours of D3, I don't think I've played much more than 10 in a public game.
D4 will force me to be playing in a more public settings, as long as PVP isn't shoved down my throat, I'm not too worried. I'd hate to avoid certain side quests or zones simply because PVP is always enabled there.
If they make PVP area-based, it can be a high risk / reward if they play it smart. Think about some areas actually having these late game, if you play solo it will be less risk, and probably less rewarding too.
I would see singleplayers have same loot as co-op, same goes with XP too. So I dont know how they will balance things out.

People can't do any rules for PvP and enjoy it because the pvp itself is not balanced at all. The PVP in D3 is whoever is faster is the winner.
What we've seen in the trailer was that barbarian chasing the soso in D4. Was looking like a PVP in an open world. I would like and I believe will be arenas for 1v1 up to 3v3. And something simple so you can invite someone to duel wherever you are on the map.
I'm hoping they'll balance the heroes and the game well this time. Because to be honest first Diablo was released in '96 so they've got enough experience to sort things out.
