Maybe it's not such a great idea. But simply getting you name on something doesn't seem that great. Unless you have a cool name or something or the item has cool prefixes/suffixes.

If you transfer the 3 set items, then remake the character they were made on you could make 6 or even 9 peice sets.
A friend of mine did that once. He personalized his entire Trang-Oul's set for some reason. Then again, he's a bit of an elitist, so that probably had a lot to do with it.
Personally, I really don't care about the quest. I have never used it in all of the years I've played the game, and I don't see myself using it in the future. However, if it were changed to something useful, such as an imbue-type quest, I'd be more inclined to give it a try.
The idea of personalizing your equipment in some way is good at the most basic levels, however the method of implementation fails in D2.
First of all, if places a limit of three personalizations. It should have been a repeatable quest.
Second, if only places you name on it, which is pretty useless in Diablo where only you will ever see the name anyway. It also makes it horrible because it slams the name on there without asking you where you want it, and even if you want your exact name.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Yes it should have. A one time deal is hardly worse risking your Hardcore character life against Nil's impressive corpse explosion for.

I agree, but character names on items in Diablo generally go before the item name, Sigon's Visage for example. There are a few unique items that differ but the are usually something like The Hands of Broc, you wouldn't get an item named "the hands of" for you to put your character's name after it, so prehaps that is why the name goes in front.
I think it should be a set item creation quest, like elfen suggested.
They could always hard code it to only create partial/full set bonuses for 3 items. That would stop your issue of repeating the quest for a full set of 9 items. The biggest sets have 7 pieces i think, and what if your on Single Player? there is no one to trade with.

I dont mind it at all. Though I wished you gained some other reward for the quest. Maybe you can get the reward of personalizing from a simpilar quest or you have to purchase for the personalizing.

That's not precisely what I mean. Say you name your character XxHaxxboyxX (ok, bad example, if you name your character that then obviously you do not care about your name, but whatever). That means every item I personalize will be named "XxHaxxboyxX's blablabla". Which is bad. What if I want to put something else there, like "Inquisitor's Azurewrath" (for a Paladin perhaps), or rename it entirely, simply naming a sword "Firebrand"?
That's what I want., and what I think should have been included.

i got to admit i really like it. you can get the best loots from bosses, why not make them "yours" by adding your name on them?
That's why they included it in the first place I'd think. Apparently it doesn't go too well with the crowd

yea but the loot from the bosses isn't always that great... i've had a ton of pointless items, but then what really annoys me is i start using a different character and all i find are items for my other character i was just using... ugh...

thinking of how many years the game kept me just to keep killing bosses to get the items i wanted... it was pretty much intended to be that way. Most quest items end up sold to vendors anyway (think of the class yellow items in act 5 and most of the enchanted stuff from act 1 - except some lucky tiaras). To me its the best way to make you feel that you're the hero since most of the uniques are named by heroes. Putting your name on the item feels pretty rewarding.
yea, but couldn't putting your name on the item give you more than justa name... it's ridiculous that you work all the way through the levels for what a stupid reward that allows you have something personal, which you'll probably sell later because you probably find something better or you have something stashed away that is better.... it just frustrates me.
i used to keep the reward for stuff i knew i'd keep (shako, tal rashas armor etc). unfortunately all the good quest rewards (as in loots) are in World of Warcraft
Hehe, I once saw an item that was personalized twice, by two different people...
That must have been in a very old version, I haven't ever seen that and I've been playing since 2001 (that would be a little over 7 years to date.)
And I remember in uhh...what's the game...Phantasy Star Online, that your name affects your stats. Maybe somehow they could do that with items, like when certain vowels or consonants are used in a row or something, certain stats will be added on to the item. It would kind of like be making your name in to some sort of enchanting spell, really.

That could be a good idea, actually, except just imagine what it would be like when people figured out the vowel/consonant combinations. You'll end up seeing names like "Eeooplaetmiunastaaluss" or something, just so people could nab the bonuses.
Granted, I've never played Phantasy Star Online, so I don't know if it works that way or not.
im not reading all that bs but ya worthless.. only reason i dont like it is because it decreases the value of an item dramatically.

Well I mean if you're going to keep it, why not personalize it? Like I always like to have one Peasents Crown, one Lidless, and one Sig Shield, even if I have better. (Oh! Another wierd thing for the list in the other thread! xD) So yea, why not make it "Wolfert's Lidless Shield" Plus if you have a cool name (Like "Wolfert" :P) then it just looks cool. xD
but isn't that what the whole thing is for basically, just a cool factor.... besides that it's pretty worthless and doesn't help out your character at all... besides to say that "WOOT I HAVE A FUCKING SWEET ASS WEAPON, ARMOR, ECT. THAT'S NAMED AFTER ME NOW"
seems to me still pointless.... i want more for my buck.... hahahahahaha
I don't really care myself...There are just as pointless and not as cool quest rewards.
Such as the ring akara gives you for killing blood raven or kill andariel or saving cain?? whichever one it is she gives you a ring for. Its always a piece of crap and i always sell it right back to her lol.
Yeah i dont really care and never use it. Although i do care in the slightest bit b/c when you try to trade items with ppl's name on them the person says
"i dont want that it has someone's name on it" or "that lowers the worth of it" ...
