So, now that I am finally able to create a poll, I wanted to get the communities opinion on how DClone "should" spawn. Currently, DClone is spawned by selling SOJ's to merchants and hoping that it spawns him. As we all now, if you are one of the lucky ones who actually find an SOJ, you certainly are not going to sell it to the merchants. So, the current system is broken because it was implemented to get rid of the duped SOJ's and now it only promotes duping, only helps dupers (for the most part), and hurts legit players from ever spawning DClone. With that being said, I have an itch that with 1.13c, they might be changing the DClone spawn mechanism since it is currently outdated. Out of the following options, which do you think would the best option for spawning DClone?
1 - Keep the current system as it is, it was put there for a reason.
2 - Instead of selling SOJ's to merchants, we now sell SOH that we receive from Uber Tristram. This will give the SOH a purpose and reward those who conquer Uber Tristram.
3 - DClone should not be spawned from selling anything to merchants. Instead, there should be items (very rare) that are collected throughout the world of Sanctuary and cubed to create a portal to DClone (i.e. keys). This will allow everyone the chance to spawn their own DClone.
4 - DClone should spawn randomly on certain servers that are controlled at Blizzards will (or say the server randomly spawns him in games only X times a week). This will make seeing DClone pure luck, no more IP hunting...
5 - None of these options, I have my own. (Please explain in your post, I want to hear more ideas).
Please feel free to comment and vote, I am interested to see what everyone thinks about how they should go about fixing this broken mechanism.

I voted for spawn randomly because simply, thats how i think it should be.
Btw i was a few times in a game where Diablo walked the earth and the screen shaked, but i either wasnt fast enough or i was with a low lvl char.
If my smiter sees a Dclone.... Me>clone.
Yea, I am torn on how I want to view it. One side of me wants it to be completely random and therefore it cannot be exploited and it is by pure chance; however, the other side me is like, I want to be in control of when and if I spawn Dclone, so farming rare items kinda puts me in the drivers seat. Either way though, I would happy, just get rid of this selling Soj's crap...

The problem with the random Dclone popping up per server is that it gives a huge incentive for players to just make a game and camp out there when they aren't playing. If Dclone pops up he will stay there till you get around to playing again.
And random creation per game creates incentive to create many games. We don't need more incentive to create short lived games (such as for mfing).
I prefer some sort of creation method based on actual activity, be it collecting items or a very small chance of dclone per monster killed.
Hmmm. You have a very good poll there. I'll need to think about this one.
I like the SOH idea, but maybe after you get the SOH, you cube it with some other item to get a portal which will take you to DClone, so like a combination of them all.

Yea, the only problem I have with the SOH idea, is that in my opinion Uber Tristram>DClone, obviously, so I think it only benefits the rich/powerful players who are strong enough to beat Tristram. So, it kinda limits the general population/poor from ever seeing DClone; atleast with the current system, a poor player might still be lucky enough to spawn him if they are in the right game. See where Im going with that? Is that logical?

Or how about this: Instead of counting SoJs the servers could keep track of the amount of monsters killed. Once enough monsters have been killed on a server DClone moonwalks
Yea, but this number would have to be massive, just trying to think of how many monsters are killed in just one hour on all the servers is astronomical...the more I think about it, I just start to think it should be random on all servers, but I dunno...
Anyone else have any thoughts?

No... That would put us in the same boat as SoJ selling. Hmm...
I like the Standard of Hero idea. For a few reasons. Because the requirement to summon Dclone would be 90, as is the requirement for Standard, it gives it a use, and it makes Uber Trist more rewarding. Once you have any and all of the Hellfire Torches, you kill it for what, money? When you could be getting a rare Annihulus, granted it wont be "as" rare as it once was. I was lucky enough to be in a game with my Girlfriend at the time and it randomly spawned on my server. I was ecstatic, as I have never had as much luck. I took it down with a level 83 hammerdin. But yes, seeing and fighting it more would bring a lot more excitement into Diablo 2. Kind of wondering, will such a thing exist in Diablo 3?

You forget there are Dclone hunting bots already. At least. so I thought. I know there's an entire IRC channel devoted for selling SOJs on whatever servers. It looks like a con to me, you pay tribute to what a "chance" at getting a SoJ. And you may be screwed over due to someone taking your place in a channel or game. I don't know I didn't waste my time reading up on it.

Basically any items that are used to spawn DClone are going to be exploited by dupers since any item can be duped, with that being said, no matter how rare an item is, once it is found, it can be duped from then on out...
Yea, there are "DClone bots" but you must have the "hot" IP in order to use it. Once you know what the hot IP is, you just program a bot to create games until it gets in a game with the hot IP. Or you could just search manually by typing netstat in cmd. Either way, it is exploitable.
So, if it were random, on certain servers or all servers, no one would know when, the IP, or anything, so it is pure chance and it cannot be exploited. But, it takes the power away from the player and you just have to hope you are on the right server at the right time. Then, it adds the question of how many times a week? how many servers at a time?
Just some more food for thought...

Yea, I think I have DClone spawn in my game like twice since DClone was created. I was just MFing in private games and he spawned Greatest thrill ever! Except I had to call in a friend since my MF sorc stood no chance

I don't know how well this will work, but here is my idea.
I think that the amount of gold that drops should decrease drastically and items shouldn't sell for as much. And to go along with this you should be able to buy back your soj for an insane amount of gold, a number so big in relation to the amount of gold that drops that most people might be able to buy it back once or twice.
I think if this worked then it would create a great gold sink, decrease the incentive to dupe sojs and make gold actually valuable.
Man, it doesnt look like they are going to change the DClone spawn with 1.13c, because I dont think they would consider this change "minimal"...so disappointing...I guess I should just be happy with the reset, FINALLY!!!

I actually like the randomly spawning idea. Less duping imo, although it will obviously still be duped because of how powerful it is (given, I prefer a nice roll with FCR on both of my rings, but w/e).
