Introduction This is a thorough analysis BEFORE PATCH 1.03 on what's the highest/fastest attack speed that each class can get. If there are any mistakes or errors in my calculations, feel free to let me know and i shall correct them asap. Reason for doing this? For experimental adventurous fun :Thumbs Up: and also to bid farewell to these FAST attack speed once Patch 1.03 kicks in, as we may never get to see them...ever again.
If you want to know the highest/fastest attack speed for Patch 1.03, here:
Resources For my analysis, i have referred to the following resources. I have left out the "h" for the youtube links as i didn't want the video player to appear. My apologies for the inconveniences. Just click on the link.
Suffix Comparison: "+X Attacks per second" VS "IAS/ASI by X%" Before we begin, do note that "Increases Attack Speed by" and "Attack Speed Increased by" are both the same. The naming is just different but still acts in the same way. Like you can call me John or Rohn, i'm still the same person. I don't know why Blizzard had done this. I see no reason or rationale behind it. One would be enough. The only difference between those 2 is, for legendary items ONLY, "Increases Attack Speed by" is bugged, It does not work. So...no effect. I presume "almost" every D3 player knows about this by now. However, if you do see this suffix for magical or rare grade weapons, it still works.
Okay! Back to the topic.
Do take note that for my analysis, i will be using the highest attack speed value obtainable from said sources. This can vary from item to item. You may find a weapon with IAS 25% but that does not mean you can find the same value on a ring, amulet or glove.
I will need to address this first since some players are still confused as to which suffix is faster or better:
Explanation 1 - Formula for calculating Attack Speed Do keep in mind that "Attack speed increased by X%" and "+X Attacks per second" suffixes work differently. In other words, they have their own formula. One adds and the other multiplies the Base Attack Speed. If you are wondering where is the other "25%" in Weapon Set F, you may refer to ttp://youtu.be/eX81boevXkA.
There is a special case in which a weapon can have BOTH suffixes. There are only 2 such weapons, 1 1H sword and 1 fist, in the whole game of Diablo 3. Also, the formula works differently. I have shown this in Weapon Set H & I. As far as i know, there aren't any other weapons that have both suffixes. And its impossible to find an Item lvl 63 weapon, be it magical or rare grade, to have both suffixes. Because you can only find "+X Attacks per second" suffix on a Superior Grade Weapon. Not on magical or rare.
In addition, i have used the highest value obtainable for each suffix in my analysis:
Weapon Set A: 1 dagger
Dagger's Base Attack Speed = 1.50
Weapon Set B: 1 dagger with "+0.20 Attacks per second"
1.50 + 0.20
= 1.70
Weapon Set C: 1 dagger with "Attack speed increased by 25%"
1.50 * 1.25
= 1.875
Weapon Set D: 2 daggers
Dual Wielding gives 15% IAS
(1.50) * (1 + 0.15)
= (1.50) * (1.15)
= 1.725
Weapon Set E: 2 daggers each with "+0.20 Attacks per second"
= (1.50 + 0.20 + 0.20) * (1 + 0.15)
= (1.90) * (1.15)
= 2.185
Weapon Set F: 2 daggers each with "Attack speed increased by 25%"
= (1.50 * 1.25) * (1 + 0.15)
= (1.875) * (1.15)
= 2.156
Weapon Set G: 1 dagger with "Attack speed increased by 25%" + 1 dagger with "+0.20 Attacks per second"
Explanation 2 - Sooooo...which for which class? Now, keep in mind that this analysis is focusing on how high or how fast attack speed can be. So i will be using the fastest weapons with the highest value.
For Monk & Barb, get 1 dagger with "Attack speed increased by 25%" & 1 dagger with "+0.20 Attacks per second"[Weapon Set G]. For WD & Wiz, since both classes can't dual wield, get a 1H weapon that gives 25% [Weapon Set C]. For DH, read on below.
Explanation 3 - DH and ranged weapons As for the DH Class, take a look:
Weapon Set A: 2 1H crossbows each with "+0.20 Attacks per second"
(1.6 + 0.20 + 0.20) * (1 + 0.15)
= (2.0) * (1.15)
= 2.30
Weapon Set B: 2 1H crossbows each with "Attack speed increased by 25%"
(1.6 * 1.25) * (1 + 0.15)
= (2.0) * (1.15)
= 2.30
Weapon Set C: 11H crossbows with "+0.20 Attacks per second" + 1 quiver with "Attack speed increased by 20%"
(1.6 + 0.20) * (1 + 0.20)
= (1.8) * (1.20)
= 2.16
Weapon Set D: 1 1H crossbows with "Attack speed increased by 25%" + 1 quiver with "Attack speed increased by 20%"
(1.6 * 1.25) * (1 + 0.20)
= (2.0) * (1.20)
= 2.40
Without question, weapon set D is the choice to go with.
Base Attack Speed for Each Class After finding out what are the fastest weapons for each class, we can then decide which weapon we should equip them with before we start adding and multiplying. Remember, our focus here is to find out what is the fastest or highest attack speed that each class can get. DPS isn't important here. And so, they are the fastest weapons that i can find. If i am wrong, do correct me. Thank you!
Monk
1 dagger with "Attack speed increased by 25%" & 1 dagger with "+0.20 Attacks per second"
= 2.075 & 1.70 + DualWield 15%
Barb
1 dagger with "Attack speed increased by 25%" & 1 dagger with "+0.20 Attacks per second"
= 2.075 & 1.70 + DualWield 15%
DH
1 1H crossbows each with "Attack speed increased by 25%" + 1 quiver with "Attack speed increased by 20%" = 2.00 + IAS 20%
WD
1 dagger with "Attack speed increased by 25%" + Lidless Wall
= 1.875 + 13% IAS
Wiz
1 dagger with "Attack speed increased by 25%" + Lidless Wall
= 1.875 + 13% IAS
Note that both the WD and Wiz cannot dual wield weapons. So their best alternative is to find an offhand weapon that has the highest IAS %.
Fastest Equipments Firstly, there are 12 or 13 items that a character can equip at any one time. Since we are excluding 2H weapons, that's 13 items in all. As far as i know, there aren't any Shoulder items that has IAS suffix. so make that 12 items that have IAS. And also since i have already stated above what weapons each class will be equipping, i will be listing down the remaining 10 items with the highest IAS that you can get.
Now, keeping in mind that there are some legendary items that has the Bugged IAS suffix, I will be stating down the "Bugged" version and the "Possible" version of the highest attack speed obtainable later on in my calculations. I will also show below in the list what is bugged and an alternative if there's one. There are many other scenarios that i have taken into consideration such as, highest attack speed when solo-ing or cooping, etc. More on to that later on.
Also, i have ensured that these items with the highest IAS value can be equipped by all 5 classes. So no worries about that =D.
Lastly, some legendary items shown below are purely for analytical purposes. They are not the only legendary items that has the highest IAS value. For example, for the monk class, you can choose to wear Mempo of Twilight or Tzo Krin's Gaze. Both have 13% IAS, which is the highest IAS value one can find for the Helm. But i won't be showing which and what. That's not the focus here. My apologies.
Those with no link means - any magical or rare item. Some legendaries do have it too.
1)Helm - 13% 2)Chest - 13% 3)Pants - 15% [bugged, no alternatives] 4)Belt - 9% 5)Boots - 15% [bugged, Alternative > Boj Anglers - 13%] 6) Gloves - 17% 7)Bracers - 13% 8) Amulet - 17% 9) Ring - 17% 10) Ring - 17%
It is rather unfortunate that we are losing 17% IAS here due to the Bugged IAS suffix. You may double check to see if there are alternatives. But as far as i know, there isn't.
Now, for Set Item Bonuses regarding IAS, there are only 2 Set Items that give IAS and i can tell you...its not worth it when one wants to try to get the highest IAS. The 2 are: Cain's Honor (2%) and Hallowed Armaments (5%). Hallowed Armaments is bugged. so that leaves us with Cain's Honor, giving only 2%. To get that 2%...for now, yea sure...you can wear the pants since all the other pants with IAS % are bugged. And then you need 1 more part to get that 2%, which is either a Helm, Glove or Boots. Choosing either of the 3 means you are gonna sacrifice far higher IAS %, to just get that 2%. Totally not worth it. Hence, as for now, it is pointless to look into Set Items.
Total IAS % from items ONLY for Each Class Do the maths and you should get the following:
*IAS % from weapons not included. Shields and Quivers are included for the WD, Wiz and DH
*Since shoulders do not give any IAS and weapons are not included, its only from 10 items for the Monk and Barb, and 11 items for the DH, WD and Wiz.
I have not done a Patch 1.03 version as there are several details that i am still not very certain about yet. However, if you want to roughly know how much IAS % you are going to get from items in Patch 1.03, just take the bugged version value and divide it by 2. Why the bugged version? Because they are going to fix the attack speed bug. Its about there...a rough estimation. As for DH, i read that their quivers remain unchanged. So they can swap their 2nd 1H crossbow (Patch 1.03 - 12%) for a quiver (Highest value - 20%). If i am wrong about the quiver, let me know. Its the highest IAS % i have seen on a quiver so far.
Skills that gives IAS % I am only going to include skills that are applicable for this analysis. For example, I am leaving out Barb's Passive Skill, Weapons Master - Polearms/Spears: 10% attack speed, since he isn't using a spear or a polearm in this case. Reason? Obviously the barb is going to lose much more attack speed, since the spear's base attack speed is 1.20 and a dagger is 1.50 while a sword is 1.40. Read on:
These IAS % obtained may be momentary, semi-permanent or limited to the skills themselves. However, since we are talking about getting the highest attack speed, i have decided to include them. But not to worry. As i had mentioned earlier, i will be giving different scenarios.
If there are any skills that gives IAS % and i have left them out, do let me know. Thanks!
Other Ways to get IAS % Nothing much to say here. Read on:
Only the Barb and DH classes fully benefit from the 63% when co-oping. Because those 2 classes get to still use their own skills that gives IAS %.
The Maths: Highest Attack Speed for Each Class ALRIGHT! Finally...we are here. Yea i know its a super long post. But it had to be done. Okay...firstly, here are 3 categories that will give us 8 different scenarios:
Category 1) Bugged OR Possible
Category 2) Temporary/Momentary OR Semi-Permanent Category 3) Solo-ing OR Co-oping
The reason why i am showing the Bugged Version is because of this - "It should have been possible.". But yea...stuff happens.
What i meant by "temporary/momentary" is something that doesn't last long or it only lasts when the skills is being activated. For "semi-permanent", i consider Mantra as one because you can make it permanent. But you will have to activate it every 3 or 7 mins. Having a follower is one too. But you need to Hire.
As for Solo-ing, basically means playing by yourself with a follower. Co-oping means playing in a party.
That's for 5 different classes. Therefore, its 5 x 8 = 40 results.
For both the Monk and Barbarian, i will only be calculating for that 1H weapon, which is 2.045. Not the other 1H weapon, which is 1.752. Remember what's our focus here.Ready? Its going to be long. Then read on! =D

Conclusion Therefore, the HIGHEST...FASTEST...POSSIBLE...OBTAINABLE...Attack speed for each class BEFORE PATCH 1.03, that will only last for at most 3-8 seconds [varies for each class], is:
Taking Scenario F
Monk - 6.681
Barb - 8.445
DH - 6.640
WD - 5.718
Wiz - 5.718
Phew! Well...that's it. For the last time, ANY mistakes, errors, something that i have left out, comment below to let me know. Thanks everyone.
I do have to laugh at your timing for posting this =) Will you be redoing it with the new numbers after the patch is done?
Interesting work, fun to read anyhow!
I do have to laugh at your timing for posting this =) Will you be redoing it with the new numbers after the patch is done?
Interesting work, fun to read anyhow!
hahaha! yea! but well...it was something last minute that i thought about when i heard Blizzard was gonna nerf IAS. Its also something to let other people know that its possible to get 5.00, 6.00 and even 7.00. 3.00 or 4.00 isn't the "sky". =D
I wasn't all that into IAS when Diablo 3 came out. And i didn't know a lot of the details concerning IAS. So along the way, i started knowing better and got really interested into finding out what's the highest attack speed that the monk class can get. And then i started thinking for the other 4 classes as well.
Am i the only one who is into IAS? Isn't there anybody else who wants to just...try out for fun...to get the highest and video record it and upload to Youtube? i can only play for 1 character and that's the monk class. i don't have the time to do it for all 5 classes. Even much less so when we know i need all that fast items and they are extremely expensive to get hold of.
But i at least managed to reach 5.00++ attack speed for my monk and did some very simple video recording showing how fast it really is. will be uploading in the days to come.
Ehh...now that the formula's are all worked out, its quite easy to calculate out the new values in Patch 1.03. So...yea...i probably will just spent a bit of time doing that once the values and details have been confirmed. But i may not be adding it to my first post over here. since its quite a hassle trying to edit the whole long post. And i have to correct all the darn spacing that the system just automatically creates for me, ending up with a terribly messy long post. Zzz...
Thanks! Alright! Time for a good long break!!!

This is a thorough analysis BEFORE PATCH 1.03 on what's the highest/fastest attack speed that each class can get.
Resources
For my analysis, i have referred to the following resources. I have left out the "h" for the youtube links as i didn't want the video player to appear. My apologies for the inconveniences. Just click on the link.
Suffix Comparison: "+X Attacks per second" VS "IAS/ASI by X%"
Before we begin, do note that "Increases Attack Speed by" and "Attack Speed Increased by" are both the same.
Explanation 1 - Formula for calculating Attack Speed
Do keep in mind that "Attack speed increased by X%" and "+X Attacks per second" suffixes work differently.
Very interesting figures we got here.
Explanation 2 - Sooooo...which for which class?
Now, keep in mind that this analysis is focusing on how high or how fast attack speed can be. So i will be using the fastest weapons with the highest value.
For Monk & Barb, get 1 dagger with "Attack speed increased by 25%" & 1 dagger with "+0.20 Attacks per second" [Weapon Set G].
For WD & Wiz, since both classes can't dual wield, get a 1H weapon that gives 25% [Weapon Set C].
For DH, read on below.
Explanation 3 - DH and ranged weapons
As for the DH Class, take a look:
Without question, weapon set D is the choice to go with.
Base Attack Speed for Each Class
After finding out what are the fastest weapons for each class, we can then decide which weapon we should equip them with before we start adding and multiplying. Remember, our focus here is to find out what is the fastest or highest attack speed that each class can get. DPS isn't important here. And so, they are the fastest weapons that i can find. If i am wrong, do correct me. Thank you!
Note that both the WD and Wiz cannot dual wield weapons. So their best alternative is to find an offhand weapon that has the highest IAS %.
Fastest Equipments
Firstly, there are 12 or 13 items that a character can equip at any one time. Since we are excluding 2H weapons, that's 13 items in all. As far as i know, there aren't any Shoulder items that has IAS suffix. so make that 12 items that have IAS.
Total IAS % from items ONLY for Each Class
Do the maths and you should get the following:
Skills that gives IAS %
I am only going to include skills that are applicable for this analysis.
Thanks!
Other Ways to get IAS %
Nothing much to say here. Read on:
Only the Barb and DH classes fully benefit from the 63% when co-oping. Because those 2 classes get to still use their own skills that gives IAS %.
The Maths: Highest Attack Speed for Each Class
ALRIGHT! Finally...we are here. Yea i know its a super long post. But it had to be done.
Okay...firstly, here are 3 categories that will give us 8 different scenarios:
The reason why i am showing the Bugged Version is because of this - "It should have been possible.". But yea...stuff happens.
What i meant by "temporary/momentary" is something that doesn't last long or it only lasts when the skills is being activated. For "semi-permanent", i consider Mantra as one because you can make it permanent. But you will have to activate it every 3 or 7 mins. Having a follower is one too. But you need to Hire.
As for Solo-ing, basically means playing by yourself with a follower. Co-oping means playing in a party.
And so the 8 are...
That's for 5 different classes. Therefore, its 5 x 8 = 40 results.
For both the Monk and Barbarian, i will only be calculating for that 1H weapon, which is 2.045. Not the other 1H weapon, which is 1.752. Remember what's our focus here. Ready? Its going to be long. Then read on! =D
Conclusion
Therefore, the HIGHEST...FASTEST...POSSIBLE...OBTAINABLE...Attack speed for each class BEFORE PATCH 1.03, that will only last for at most 3-8 seconds [varies for each class], is:
Phew! Well...that's it. For the last time, ANY mistakes, errors, something that i have left out, comment below to let me know. Thanks everyone.
