I just joined the forums because I wanted to share a few barb builds/videos I recently put together. All the streamers I watch are busy with their seasonal progression, so I figured I'd take this opportunity to share what I've found to be the most reliable patch 2.2 greater rift build so far, for those of you who are still trying to figure out which way to go. (I'll also post two t6 farming builds in a separate thread)
I love this patch because it introduced a bunch of new viable builds and makes greater rifting a lot more fun for barbs. I don't play seasons much, nor do I spend hours farming rifts to get the dream, so I value builds that deliver consistency. With this build and the right gear, you'll be clearing high low 50's regularly and high 40's almost every time, with the potential to do top leaderboard progression (i.e. mid 50's) with optimized gear and passives. I sort of see why they got rid of Mortick's brace now - the barb would have been too OP with it!
This is a 5 piece WW and 3 piece IK solo whirlwind build with the royal ring, unity, and the IK weapon. You get high damage plus insanely high toughness which really kicks ass! One small disclaimer: you need an ancient weapon for the build to really take off. Having one with CotA damage is icing on the cake and most likely required for mid 50's.
One thing to note is that I've found this to be much better than 3 piece WW and 5 piece IK. The reason for this is that most of your damage comes from the dust devils rune rather than whirlwind itself, and you get a ton of extra healing by being able to choose blood funnel on top of that. For low 40's 6pc IK works fine, but I don't think it has nearly the same potential as this one.
Without further ado, here's the build video and a smooth grift 49 clear at about 14 minutes in:
Edit: added another video discussing the potential viability of rend - mutilate (cold rune) in place of the physical runes, along with a decent grift 52 clear. The cold rune boosts overall damage and slows enemies down, potentially reducing damage taken when you're in the middle of lots of trash. Right after I made the video I cleared a 53 up to the RG in about 7 minutes (thanks to much better density), but I got Ghom and it was game over
The build itself is similar to this one already posted by EnragedN3wb, which contains some nice variations as well:
Why are you dumping rage into battle rage when fighting the rift guardian, when you chose berserker rage as one of your passives?
Do you realize that IK Set's cooldown reduction works only on _attacks_ that spend rage, so in your case only whirlwind and rend. You should be aiming to stay at max rage as often as possible, anything else is a tragic mistake in gameplay execution.
You get healed for life per fury spent obviously, that's why you spam battle rage. Having life per fury on belt and possibly even on weapon makes a huge difference.
Old habit from raekor + ignore pain/ignorance is bliss.
Yeah, life per fury is pretty insignificant, what you need with this build is high HP and resistances. All your healing comes from WW and possibly rend, which is more than sufficient most of the boss and especially good on bosses with adds. Reduced elite damage on chest and secondaries that reduce melee/ranged damage also help more than you'd expect.
this is the near exact copy of mannercookies WW build that he posted even before 2.2 went live. it differs in one rune used and one other spell being overpower over warcry. pathetic imho
It's not manacookies build or anyone elses, anyone with a bit of meat between the ears will have worked this build out for themselves within about 5 minutes of playing with the Wastes gearset, it's an obvious build. There are clever, interesting and creative builds in this game but this is definitely not one of them.
It's like getting defensive about who invented "cheese on toast" when you gave a bunch of people some bread, cheese and a toaster.
I did try this build at the start of 2.2 but I might revisit it again. My impression was that the overall damage output didn't come close to the 2 hander build, since you lose dust devils and your ancients can't use the fire rune for additional single target damage. The healing is also a little spiky compared to blood funnel. Not sure if people have used the build for high grift clears, it would be interesting to find out.
-------
Also, going back to the 2 handed build, I've been experimenting with the cold rune (mutilate) for rend and have found it to provide a nice boost in single target damage and trash dot damage, since it will trigger bane of the trapped even when you move away.
if you read my argument with comprehension you maybe would've understood it and answered on topic, but yeah what should I expect...
So to repeat myself, if you build around a certain passive and then throw away its benefit completely on a rift boss, which is where you need damage the most as a barb, then you've essentially wasted that passive slot, haven't you.
If you want to build around life per fury spent then by all means go that way, but building around both does not make any lick of sense.
Get it now?
Also... life per fury spent is negligible at best, especially at higher levels, the amount of hp you recover is simply too underwhelming. Would be safe to also mention that he kept spamming serk rage even when at full hp, so yeah...
Have you cleared GR50-60, yeah, thought so......

This was my first Diablo video, so I hope you guys enjoy it, and feel free to share other ideas here as well!
OP, good that you took your time , but this is the exact same build as the top rated on the site:

Glad you liked it! Just cleared a 50 fairly easily, should have a video of that up soon.

My main problem with all these posts is, title says "50+ easy", showing it in lower levels (this case 49, it's close).
Maybe I should make some troll builds, put the title to "70+ easy" and demonstrate how it recks T1 rifts.
(Sorry, is like the 3rd topic like this I see today, if it's that consistent, put up at least a 51 vid in a topic about 50+).
Also, known build, nothing new.
and yet you get randomly OS by regular mob for no reason in 45+....

this grift was a gift from the heavens ...
% hp on belt is better than life per fury spent. it increases the healing from WW and Rend since they heal based on % hp
