Hand to hand and fist weapons sound pretty cool, too, but I don't like clawed weapons. Would prefer just tough gloves, maybe very small not noticeable spikes, I prefer my fist weapons of the bludgeon format (http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/5525/fpche0h2xfix.png , http://mmxz.zophar.net/rpg/mana3/glove.jpg) but that probably won't be possible since they most probably belong in the same category.

Does anyone know if the Monk can use anything besides spears and fist weapons?
Are his skills limited by his weapon choice or vice versa? Still not sure if this is purely cosmetic or skill dependent (like how it was with the Amazon).
I want a kick ass Staff for monk!
If there are abilities that go specifically with weapon choice I would be surprised as this might limit customisation? Then again "way of the hundred fists" skill wouldn't seem that logical when using a staff?
In the videos I'm pretty sure he used Way of the 1k Fists with a staff. In fact, a few skills in the game cause the characters' weapons to disappear for the duration of the skill.
My Staff vs your Wits..I can’t wait to see you in PVP arena then! (let the D3 PVP smack talk commence :P)
Ok I didn’t check about if skills would be able/unable to be used if certain weapons were equipped.
If they are still able to be used then that doesn’t reduce customisation potential I guess.
Maybe I wish it would change the skill slightly. Eg way of the 1k staff strikes...rather than lose my staff -> then hit you with my fists -> then magically have my staff back in hand...
I hope there are no weapon specific attacks, that really ruins it for me, there better not be a ""Claw tree"" or a ""Staff tree""
or pool or whatever skill.....chunks? will be called XD
I am currently a bit undecided on the issue, and I think it depends on the different animations and item design.
Generally I go for the staffs but some of the staffs I've seen so far didn't impress me at all
Not even the one in the Monk Wallpaper?
I'll have a Staff set (preferably the awesome blue glowy one), a pair of claws, and a sword/shield combo. There's probably a trait that amplifies damage based on weapon, so I might have to chose one and stick with it, then respec into another later.

The final test of the Serpent's Form takes place in "The Pit of 12 Vipers." The initiates are not told about the 13th.
It would be great on a barbarian or something IMO, but I don't feel it fits the Monk. It reminds me of some weapons from Neverwinter Nights that half-orcs always walked around with... that's not a staff, that's a two-sided battle club.
Well I think it's unlikely we'll see skills limited by weapons, at least for the most part. Remember that there are no skill trees now, it's more of a skill... forest. You just stroll through and pick which skills you want along the way.
As for what weapons you can use, I'm betting he can use anything besides class specifics I'm pretty sure that's what they've said about most weapons. As long as you have the stats.
As for me, it depends largely on the attack animations, fists sounds cooler but staff attacks usually look more fluid and cool.
Depends on what I find that looks coolest! Staff would look the coolest tho, IMO.
While there hasn't been any official statement, I can pretty much guarantee you that your weapon choice won't affect the skills you can use.
I was actually looking closely at the video, and during way of the hundred fists, the monk's staff temporarily goes on his back while he punches, then comes back to his hand right after. It looks fairly smooth.
EDIT-
Also, during impenetrable defense, the "staff" used to deflect projectiles is a straight stick conjured out of thin air. If you have fists weapons on, you just start spinning the staff out of nowhere and it goes away after. If you're using a staff, the staff goes on your back and you spin the "conjured" staff (same as way of the hundred fists.)
I'm a fan of the old school FF4 style bare fist monk. If there is some sort of barely visible fist weapon likening to iron knuckles then that would be my first choice baring bare fist.
Secondarily I really like the Asian swordsman idea, with a 1h scimitar.
Generally I go for the staffs but some of the staffs I've seen so far didn't impress me at all, they looked more like mage staffs than fighter staffs... I've also heard something about spears, and seen a few glaives. If all of these weapons are in the same general category I'll probably go for them.
I really just want a plain staff: http://www.yotsumedojo.com/Bujinkan Yotsume Dojo/bukijutsu_files/Bojutsu (Noguchi Sensei).jpg
Or a glaive: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_mAQ8aQP-h9Y/SZdO8uzI6_I/AAAAAAAAAEw/TfgaW64qKHg/s320/guandao.jpg
Or a just plain old 2h spear: http://images.community.wizards.com/community.wizards.com/user/grey_warden/f8f7217f876e42e52f493484b93229ca.jpg?v=227250

i've been thinking about this for a while, since I'm in doubt between barb and monk

And I refuse to call them fist weapons. Come on guys, they're just claws.
