Who said the monk can't use ranged weapons? Because that is not true.Every class can wield a Crossbow and a bow. Mages can only wear wands and DH can only carry hand crossbows and quivers.
With your spirit generation being around 1.6 a second its going to take you almost 94 seconds to fill your spirit pool (without passive) and that just seems way too long to me. Each to their own though..
Based on D2 Hell difficulty , you might want to consider using One With Everything passive. I feel like it will be a must in inferno.
One With Everything will only be beneficial if you have at least 1 stacked resistance. If your resistances are all balanced in numbers, it is a useless passive. Better to go with healing/dodge in that case.
Like I said in the other Topic (about "What Monk will you be") there is no point in using Fists of Thunder and WothF with Crimson runes. The Dash/Teleport is for both on the first strike... and you cant use both of them for the first strike If you want more speed change the WothF rune to Obsidian... that gives you a stackable (3stacks) +8%movementspeed buff. The generator rotation would be FoT (dash) -> WothF -> WothF. You dash with the first strike and the other 2 strikes stack your movementspeed buff.
Its never going to be a static combo rotation, so if he wants to use them both that way then its perfectly acceptable. Plus the extra dmg isnt bad. D3 is all about viable builds, not optimal builds. I mean check out my build, its far from optimal. When I get to inferno it'll probably need alot of reworking so I can survive solo; leading up to inferno's gonna be a blast though.

Well but what if I want them both because its fun?
I don't know if this will be any good but I'm going to see how building a highly mobile dps monk, with either semi-tank or semi-dodge abilities. I'm trying to make a good build that does good dps, is really fast, and can tank enough so it wont get smashed.

Can monks use bows in the beta right now? I was just basing that off the game guide on the official site, which also says monks can't use 2-handed axes/maces/swords. I hope I'm wrong though, I'd love to have the option of ranged for my monk.
If they can wield bows, is it possible to use spirit generators while using them?
Basically its the Vortex build. You become a vortex that spawns extra tornados, you have an ally that is a living vortex, and you create giant vortex's. I honestly don't see this build being viable but its one I'm personally gonna try due to all the wind effects you can do. Added in a few staple moves for dmg reduction and dmg increasing, and put Wall of Light in there so I have something for single target. Will be curious to see if doing a 2H with The Guardian's Path will significantly increase the Spirit generation and will possibly swap that out accordingly. Wanted to call the build Archon Toilet but Wizard's have that ability.

Spirit pool is 150 with Exalted Soul passive increasing it to 250.

"Can't Touch This" build.
This build is all about reducing incoming damage, dodging attacks, becoming immune to damage, and denying areas.
Might work with a ranged weapon, too.
I chose Deadly Reach because it has the highest range, Fists of Thunder for the knockback.

Teleports, Dashes, Dashes (and more dashes,) and movement speed.
I took a little bit of dodge so you don't just outright die.
