Before I played the beta I was all about the Witch Doctor. So I finally got my hands on the beta and played through with the Witch Doctor. It was a lot of fun, as I hoped it would be. But then (after watching some Donnie Yen movies) I tried out the Monk. Man... I never thought I would take to the class so well. Usually lightly armored melee get the sh*t end of the stick, but not this time around. I actually played through the beta twice with the Monk, because I was having so much fun.
With the news we received today I'm still liking the monk maybe even a little more than before. Dexterity will increase the monks dmg, dodge and crit!!! I don't know how this won't be handled with a nerf. I hope they don't screw up the runestones because the monk doesn't have that many skills that appeal to me. Another important thing to note is how will the 'seize the initiative' passive handle the changed to attributes, that was by far my favorite passive out of all the classes. Regardless I still think I give the monk a shot as my first character, I know too much about the class to turn back now.
The Monk will be my first character because not every character can kick as much ass as the monk. He/she can dodge, deal damage, heal, and reflect so much damage back at their enemies. also the perfect combination of generators and spenders with mantras to compliment their efficiency.
I will definitely be playing Monk first. I decided that when they first announced the class. I think my second will be either Barb or Wizard depending. The only thing that could change my mind is if I get in beta and end up enjoying the wizard more, because I think I'll enjoy those two classes equally.
In Diablo 2 I would ALWAYS play the assassin. Every time I played up to level 90 and then quit long enough for my character to get deleted when I would come back 100% of the time I would re-roll an assassin. I'm one of those guys that just loves to play the same class forever.
no, monk is probably gonna be my 3rd tho! i loved the barbarian in D2, and also the Amazon, so i'm gona play the charachters in a special order
Barbarian. (2h aiming on aoe + 1 single target nuke)
Demon Hunter. fast bows/xbow whit "guided" arrows (its now named hungering)
Witch Doctor. Summoner, just all summon stuff (i loves skeleton necro)
Wizard. don't know lol
I'm planning on Monk first for sure, I love melee classes in every game I've ever played but the ability to be strong support is huge for me also, as I'm planning on rolling with 2-3 friends a lot of the time.
Barbarian will probably be my second, as I am a melee addict...I'll also probably build my Barb to be more solo-oriented so I can level him while my friends are offline or whatever.
That said.. Witch Doctor looks pretty awesome too, and a beast for soloing...gonna be a tough choice
I posted this in another, similar topic, but for me, the monk will be my first character. I've always had a preference for fast hitting, but weak attacks (monk) over slow, & powerful attacks (barb). From what I've seen, love the playstyle so far!
Monk will definitely be my first character. Just seems to fluid but powerful but supporty but tanky but evasive. I just think they have a great variety of abilities that look like a ton of fun. I can't wait to play!
For some reason, to me, this thread screams "beta key hopeful post!"
Anyways, since it's here, let me partake. I will not be playing a monk first, though it looks like a great class. I will be playing a Wizard first, and it will most likely be my main. My GF will be running Demon Hunter. We plan on running with a Monk + one other class (most likely wiz).
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
Honestly I'm still torn, considering monk as a first for sure at the moment. However the barb and the DH are fairly high on my list as well, I very much like the style and feel of the DH, demonic powers ect, great feel; I also like the barbs generally role of being the one to lead the charge, soak up, and dish out damage. The monk I feel falls somewhere in the middle of style / finess and strength. Anyone have any opinions that could potentially sway me in one direction? It would be most appreciated =)
I've always been a melee player so I think it's time to give somthing else a go. I've always had a fascination with playing a battle mage and the closest I got to that was Skyrim. I just would'nt know how to start building one. Ill probably play a battle mage to get me started but its likely that my main character will be a barb though.
After playing diablo 2 with ama and sorc i though range class like DH or wizard gonna be my pick, but somehow i cant stop thinking about monk. The combo system and animations looks sweet. In d2 melee classes were always kinda weak on nightmare with all the dmg flying around while with sorc you could just stay at range aoeing everything. Maybe with more tight spaces and mobs attacking from all sides, d3 wont be so biased towards range. So monk probably gonna be my pick followed by DH.
