So I didn't play Barb that much before 2.0 but he has worse gear than my Monk which I've played a lot longer. On the Barb I can just stand there in most ground effects and take the hits while bursting down elite packs, on the Monk I have to run around and can't take much of a hit. This is with both on T3 and in the same areas. Is Barb simply more tanky or do I need a different build/gear on the Monk? Any input is appreciated.
Well, I still use LS on my Monk and need it to farm T4, which I do extremely fast btw. I could get more DPS but since I either need Life per Spirit, LS or LoH well, I better just use LS until I hit 70 and can switch to other gear.
So basically, you need: 700AR, 4k armor, 35-40%dodge and around 60k+HP to survive WITH either a VERY good Life Regen or LoH, Life x Spirit, or just as I do, Lifesteal. That's for T4.
Also remember to have some defensive skills as well.
in terms of sheer survivability when buried or surrounded by packs, often a barbarian will outlast a monk.
at least it all of my testing and comparing this is what I have run into time and time again...
on the flip side when fighting a single target that would kill you slower than a pile of mobs and ground effects, but quickly nonetheless, the monk tends to survive this situation generally much easier than a barbarian
the barbarian has certain healing abilities that grow in power exponentially when surrounded by mobs,
the monk has certain CC abilities that really shine when facing one single heavy hitting monster
these two above defined scenarios are generalized greatly and skill setups and play-styles can be used to flatten the peaks and valleys of danger.
but when viewing the skill spectrum of each class as a mathematical probability VS typical scenarios, they often ring true, and began ringing once again for me as recently as last night............
I never really told any of my friends when they were actually playing how I linked the rend animation to the back of a ceased whirlwind. or how id spam it during a frozen orb barrage
or how the other little deep seated quirks about the barbarian would ramp up his durability, of which there are quite a few
on the flip side, while I had to run from more mobs as a monk, far fewer goblins ran from me.
My monk's girlfriend is the act 2 dervish keywarden....just a complete pushover.
