I want to play wd,but i dont like pets.Is it ok to play wd without them? I'll play with two friends of mine, monk and demonhunter, and im going to play supporting debuffer wd build.Should i stick with wd or wizard will be better at this stuff, because wd without pets is nonsense?
ps.sorry for my bad english)
There are a few videos from blizzcon last year that show a clip of a petless witch doctor. In the video he used snares to let him move to where he needed to be and to keep him out of trouble. With your friends it would be even easier.
yeah,in some situations pets will be needed, but i hope with my friends and our followers there will be enough bodies to tank damage
im planning something like this http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#edYRaQ!diY!cbabbZ
im just wondering maybe wizard with his frost nova, slow time, enchanting magic weapon, knockbacks, slows and ect will perform better that wd...
Witch Doctor is fine without pets.
See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Zd7YD3uuM for reference.
"Diablo 3 will be all about the viable builds, not the optimal builds."
Meaning a melee wizard is viable, a WD without pets is perfectly viable too.
thanks for video) but everything about wd is revolving around summons.
I absolutely dont like pets and this...idea of summoning that suicidal frogs, spiders, zombie chargers to kill stuff is ohhh...not so exiting.
a WD without pets viable? of course. but you will have a much harder time trying to survive in later difficulties since his pets are his greatest defense abilities by far

If your disliking summoning frogs and zombies and such you may want to go wizard .

as i linked above my build http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#edYRZQ!diY!cbabaZ
the idea of this build is to keep my party alive, support them as much as possible, crowd control as much as possible.
i'll take hex, grasp of the dead, acid cloud and big bad voodoo for sure, and two passive skills - bad medicine and tribal rites for sure.
Hex for cc and healing my mates.
Grasp for more cc and producing healing globes for more healing.
Acid cloud to keep bad medicine debuff as long as possible.
And big bad voodoo for bursting or healing,i didnt decide yet which rune will be better.
But i dont know which skills should i take to fill in my build.
I have a huge problem in self survivability and mana regeneration sections.
im thinking about this combos:
Zombie dogs, runned for droping healing globe upon death, and sacrifice, runned for resurection of these dogs, for even more healing.
Or spirit walk for self survivability and some spamable damaging spell to help my party with damage.
Or horrify and plague toads, runned for confusing enemies, for even more sick crown control combos.
As last passive there will be one of these:
Jungle fortitude or death trance for survival.
Spiritual attunement or vision quest if i'll have problems with mana.
Grave injustice for reducing cooldowns and some health and mana.
Circle of life or zombie handler for zombie sacrifiser build.
this build is not for solo! keep this in mind.
So im asking maybe somebody knows how everything works.Maybe in later dificulties crowd control abilities will be cut so much that it will not be playable.Maybe there will be no need for ccing, just kill as fast as possible, while keeping yourself alive.
Summons are the part of WD playstyle. You can skip them but as someone said here already you will have hard times in most of situations. When Blizzards were presenting the DH class as fifth one they were talking about archtypes of classes. One of them was a "Summoner" and as far as we know only 1 class can be considered as a summoner.I don't think any of those who have chosen WD without pets is gonna progress far through the game on higher difficulties than normal. Excuse me my pessimism. And what's the point playing ranged caster with ability to protect himself with summons and not use it? Play a Wizard then. Yes I know Blizzard was talking about VIABLE builds, and yes I agree, almost all builds i've ever seen on this site and many others are viable. But you know what, you won't progress futher at some point of the game on difficulty higher than normal I believe. All those petless WDs will be forced to call their minions for help.
Actualy im sure i have seen blizzard show a WD that didnt use summons on either hell or inferno... it was when they were talking about viable builds i think. He definatly has the tools..
Most people considered the necromancer to be a pure summoner, and while he was my favorite D2 class, I seldom actually played him as a zookeeper. Poisonmancers and bonemancers were way more fun to play, and were just as viable. I expect the WD will be able to completely maim and eradicate at all difficulty levels without dogs or the gargantuan.

in D2 summon necros were useless if they werent in solo play because the skeletons did such horrible damage. only revive was good but to actually kill anything with your skellys in hell took ages. bone necros actually could kill stuff.
in D3 the WD pets are a lot more viable than D2 summons since they are based off of your wpn dmg and you can rune them to do more. i think the WD is like the druid / necro hybrid only even better. in D2 if you tried to do summons AND poinson or bone you would gimp one tree or another too much and be overall not effective in later difficulties so you had to basically specialize in one or the other, in D3 the WD can easily do both at the same time without sacrificing either making him a lot more powerful class

Right but wrong. My summon necro could be pretty handy to a group. 20 skele 20 improved minions 20corpse explosion, lots in clay golem and golem mastery and viola you can solo hell difficulty practicaly naked and have lots of support abilities for group play. Your clay golem can slow bosses and corpse explosion is amazing. Plus a couple points in a curse here and there and your a pretty handy support for group play. Even if your skeles are only good for soaking up damage.

w/ out corpse explosion no one would ever have been a summon necro. it would of made it 100% useless like a summon druid. LOL

Summon necros are pretty good, but you need extreme fit gear (level 40 skeletons and mastery, fanatism aura). CE speeds up the process but CE is a core ability of the necromancer itself, not even bone necros should play w/o CE.
yeah,in some situations pets will be needed, but i hope with my friends and our followers there will be enough bodies to tank damage
Followers are a single player only feature. When you join a multiplayer game they are automatically dismissed (you can talk to them in town to get them to follow you again when you're back in a single player game).

well frogs and zombies are only 5 of his skills... but if you include bats, spiders, locusts and fetish's.... your just left with spirit spells. which ive made a spirit build before... http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#ecUgij!eVU!ZZZaab......

Summon druids are really weak though.
