Remember, only 1.9 percent of people have touched inferno. Based off that percentage, I think it's safe to assume that a lot of people don't know what they are doing. Perhaps they are just following trend from their friends.

Those statistics are REALLY misleading. It says that 1.9% of CHARACTERS unlocked Inferno. My and my roommate both have 10 characters, and both have one Inferno-unlocked one. Does that mean 10% of us unlocked Inferno, or 100%?
However, looking at their 3 characters per account statistic tilts the statistics in their favor - if everyone has 3 characters on average, and 1.9% of characters unlocked inferno, it would mean that 0.6% of the player base is in Inferno. However, this is extremely muddy stuff, and Blizzard is either willfully not giving us the real numbers, or their statisticians are idiots (Guess which one is more likely).
6.3 million by the end of the first week is a big number, for the sake of simplicity let's assume that number went up to 6.5 by now, although chances are it's bigger... So, 6.5 million players, 3 characters per account, meaning that you have roughly 19.5 (Let's say 20 for the sake of simplicity) million characters... 80% of those are nowhere near the level range for Inferno, leaving you with 4 million characters in the 30-60 range. I'm gonna go out on a leg and say that the remaining 20 million characters have a Gaussian distribution of levels, but don't quote me on that one. With some rough calculations, you get that about 8% of those characters are level 60, or 1.6 million. Bring back the "3 characters per account" statistic and you get roughly 530k players with level 60 characters, which very roughly matches the 0.6% statistic for players. Note that I'm operating on preposterous assumptions and some very fishy guessing, but the point I want to illustrate is this - the statistic that Blizzard is not telling us is the play-time. You can safely assume that anyone who is progressing through Inferno at this point has put in on average 100 hours into the game by now. How many players with 100 hours of play time have reached Inferno, that's what I want to know.
In conclusion, I believe that the gigantic margin of players that simply aren't trying to reach Inferno is clouding the actual Inferno statistic, and that the number of people that reached it AMONG DEDICATED PLAYERS isn't that small at all.
The topic being that most players are stupid (Funny how I created the thread and you apparently know the topic better than me lolwut)? I believe that was established already, but sure, let's tie it in - Blizzard's statistics do not reflect the difficulty of the pre-Inferno difficulties accurately (My above calculations didn't even take into account people who played only Normal mode and quit), and it is my belief that reaching Inferno is actually extremely easy if you are dedicated. However, dedicated doesn't mean skilled at all, hence the most players are idiots part, resulting in countless whines across the board.

lol at your math skills... you did that backwards, doll. Assuming no variance that every person has exactly 3 characters and 1.9% of "characters" are in inferno, without people who have more than one character in inferno then that drives the number of accounts, or "players", up to 5.7% of the population in inferno.
Really guys.... has anyone looked into critical mass and using diamond skin. Iv done it and if you use acid hydra and acid weapon with a decent amount of crit u can keep diamond skin up almost 100% of the time. Plus if u think about how hard inferno mobs hit before mitigation it can be somewhere around 100 150k easy. I think you guys need to test something correctly before you assume its bad.

this was nerfed like 3 days ago... critical mass now has an internal cooldown and is about as useless as mirror skin. IDK why anyone would use these spells if they put any thought into it at all...
Critical mass is useless now, I didn't use it with diamond skin originally I used it with frost nova and high crit gear long before the video of the guy killing inferno diablo with it in 3 minutes. I thought CM might still be ok after the nerf, just less useful, but it is completely bunk now, 35% crit chance and reduced cooldown passive, still no dice... You die a lot hoping your frost nova will come active again in time
I used Mirror Skin when I was checking the animations of all of the abilities - lol.
Yeah, when I saw that on the front page, I was disappointed. I used the AP reduction one for Normal/Nightmare and then the double one for Hell/Inferno.

It wouldn't surprise me to find most people, ie people not on this forum are confusing the wording of 'damage absorbed' with damage given, I admit I read it twice myself. If it was 50% of the damage given before damage reduction etc, that might be useful, which I suspect is how people are reading it. Else why the hell would you bother.
Mirror Skin looks useful. Diamond Skin absorbs 7176 damage, and with Mirror skin, will return 3588 of that damage back to the attacker.
How is that bad? I have a shield and it does damage. Win!
However, I will admit I have never used diamond skin. I've just started Hell on my Wizard and just haven't found a need for it yet. I'm assuming starting in Hell (or Inferno?) I'm going to start getting hit, and will need Diamond Skin? If so, I can see how the Crystal Shell rune would be better if I were taking damage.

Yeah, Diamond Skin is pretty mandatory for Hell and Inferno. You can avoid its use in Nightmare and don't need it in Normal at all, but unless you are very skilled (clearly if you aren't ever getting hit on Nightmare, you probably at least have some understanding of kiting), I usually recommend its use from the level you get it onwards.

Look, I'm an engineer, and I do a boatload of statistical data analysis for a living. -And after reading through that list of "interesting stats" they posted up, it's pretty obvious they have no intention of providing the community any REAL statistics that can be interpreted towards any real relevant conclusions.
1.9% of characters have unlocked Inferno difficulty. OK, thats fine, how about accounts? You could extrapolate something from them citing 3 characters on average per account, but that's really making a lot of assumptions that put the conclusions in doubt, global warming style.
The most common level 60 build in the game is only used by 0.7% of level 60 characters of that class (not including Passive diversity) OK, so all sorts of people use all sorts of builds. Real shocker, considering you are talking about 6 spell slots with 25 different spells available. How about telling us what individual spells are most popular for players that have unlocked Inferno?
TLDR: All I am saying is the stuff they posted is bullshit, and the fact that they are saying the most popular wizard rune is mostly useless is further evidence of that. Don't even waste your time with that garbage.

Basically, it is very safe to assume that the vast vast majority of the player base is playing on a very casual schedule, as evident by their character level statistic. Now let's look at their estimated sales records - http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/diablo_iii_shatters_pc_sales_records_server_woes_postpone_real-money_auction_house_launch
