That is my wiz thus far. As you can see I have put a ton into attack speed. However my weapon is VERY slow, but I got it because of its insane stats (loh, tons of crit damage, tons of int).
No, you simply cast your spells faster, in essence allowing you to deal damage faster. The actual damage numbers for the spells are based on weapon damage, not speed.

So would you say it's the least critical of the 3?
Looking at my gear what would you recommend I do? Which stat should I start focusing on more? (thanks)
*EDIT* Holy cow! You're gear is perfect. I can only imaging how much you wreck this game....I already do pretty well and am no where near your stats.
For hydra spells, your attack speed increases the damage they do because they have a fixed attack speed. For beam spells, IAS increases the rate at which you spend AP and does directly increase your damage, though the displayed tics are not affected. This is especially relavent to Archon where you have no resource to worry about, so IAS can greatly improve your effective dps against elites.
For CM builds, higher attack speeds mean you can cast more spells in a given time frame, which is fairly important if you use frost nova since it lets you get more storm chaser casts between frost novas. The storm chaser tics are likely independent of attack speed though.
Blizzard made its easy for players to show your total damage per second by calculating the damage and showing it in DPS for you.
It means less thinking about your weapon dmg and weapon speed etc. and just check what your dps says.
Attack speed is a damage modifier in % of your current damage.
If you have 10K DPS and +100% attack speed you would get 20K DPS.
But if have 20K DPS and the same +100% attack speed, you get 40K DPS.
So attack speed has more efect on higher DPS.
Also skillpoints like 1 int gives you 1% extra dmg of your weapon dmg, 1% attack speed gives 1% extra dmg of total DPS if im right,
Eventually all you have to do is look at your dps.
But keep in mind that your playstyle is also important.
Because if i am right it doesnt count for example frozen dmg buffs.
If monsters who gets frozen take 20% more dmg,and you dont freeze the monsters, you wont do the etra dmg. The DPS cant tell you how many times you do freeze them and do the extra dmg.
So the DPS is an easy way to check what setup is doing more dmg per second but is not that precise, because your playstyle is also important.
So just do what I've been doing and try and get every stat I can afford...INT/AR/Armor/Crit/CritDamage/IAS/VIT heh
Attack Speed is real DPS, more so than Crit/CritDamage.
DPS is not Damage Done.
Technically correct, but you're being (purposely?) obtuse. Obviously the spirit of the question is in regards to effective dps, not theoretical. So, it depends. IAS only gives you full benefit while you're consistently attacking. If you're stutter stepping/kiting then it has less value than crit/crit damage.
I am curious. What will wizards do once they nerf Storm Chaser? How will people keep archon up?
By killing things. I don't use Storm Chaser, I just use a sig spell until Archon comes off CD, which only really happens for any significant time if I die, and I can usually waste some of that time identifying items.

What? I do not use storm chaser, neither many other archon users.
The trick is to kill faster than archon times out. Keep in mind that each kill lengthens archon by 1 second. To pull this off, you need high damage, and a speed boost: teleport archon, storm armor+scramble, or more popular: 24% move speed. You also need an effective method to regain life.
I run Stormchaser only for the rare occasion that I cast Archon on a group of mobs only to find out there are none in a wide vicinity (happens sometimes, luck of the draw). Or, say, I meet the unfortunate Fast-Horde-Reflect-Mortar-Waller Phasebeasts when I just cast Archon. Now my Archon is still on CD, but I have to get it back up somehow to continue. Stormchaser.
Sure, I don't really need it. I could grab Diamond Skin instead, but I'm 99% okay during my farm runs that it works for me. As of now, anyway.
If I am doing a blizzard kite build does attack speed increase the damage of blizzard?
If am doing arcane orb build
If I am doing crit mass build
Right now I am doing the broken storm chaser build, but this is soon to be fixed in 1.0.5 for sure.
So I am sitting here thinking about what build I want to do next, and I want to know if I will need to consider attack speed in the build?
