I'm kind of lost with my wiz, I've been upgrading a few things here and there but with no substantial improvement and, as you are a great source of wisdom and knowledge, I come to ask your advice to make my wiz a better demon killing machine.
oh, btw, I have less than 1 mill of gold right now (not much of a farmer) so if you can tell me how much your ideas would cost it would be of great help, so I know how much I gold need to save
Nacho_ijp, I like your wizard. I think you are a bit over here and there, and there's room for improvements, but I don't think you will get much more damage with that budget.
I would start looking for a Triumvirate, as you don't seem to be running a CMWW build, and you are using a black wand. The 15% to 18% damage boost from a triumvirate could be useful.
But I suggest you simulate the changes on an online calculator like d3up.com. By the way, let me do this one for you, and you can go on after:
Changing the Chantodo's Force for a Triumvirate with similar stats ,but droping the attack speed:
If you can get a better one within your budget, go for it. It's a 5% increase on DPS on a (relatively) low cost.
I'm not too confident on giving you specific price tags for any items, but just some thoughts for spots where you can definitely get something for a few 100k or maybe even less:
Your boots. I think you should sell them on the AH, and even if you just get 50k, they don't really aren't that helpful for you anyways. Any rare boots with 12% movement speed and 150+ int would be a great upgrade, I'm not sure if you can afford a pair of Zuni's Trails... probably not, I guess. But just check, rare boots with int/allres/MS are fine as well.
Bracers: you can either try crafting here, or you can get a pair of cheap Lacuni's. Why Lacuni's? Well, you might lose some EHP and only gain little if any DPS for a pair of really cheap Lacuni's, but your Compass Rose (for the 2nd MS item) and your amulet aren't items you want to hold on forever. At some point you need to replace them. If you get Lacuni's, just get a rare ring and craft an amulet (about any crafted int amulet should be a huge buff for you). If you prefer to craft bracers, you probably want to get Inna's pants (just the cheapest you can get) for MS. You'll lose some EHP, but you can re-gain some on your ring and it also seems as if EHP isn't your big problem (you have more EHP than some MP10 wizards).
Okay, the last point already included some things because replacing one item leads to another:
Lacuni's => replace Compass Rose with rare ring => craft amulet
Craft rare bracers => Inna's pants => rare ring => craft amulet.
In the long run you want to save for a Witching Hour and Vile Ward (or some crafted shoulders, though you don't have control to keep the pickup radius, and I can tell you that you from my own experience to get used to pickup on shoulders... ;-))
At your level, I would say save up gold to make bigger upgrades. You say you're not much of a farmer, but that's what D3's about: farming and grinding out gear and levels.
You should be more than capable of clearing MP0-1 with ease, so stick to that for now. Bagstone covered the essential points, but I advise that you play the game religiously if you want any hopes of finding personal upgrades or valuable trade pieces on your own.
yay! I got the triumvirate and some cheap zunis trails and got a decent buff on dps and I'm now over 100k unbuffed
@Jaetch, I know I have to farm more, and I will, with time (university and life takes a toll on my gaming time) but you're right, if I want to get good upgrades I must find the time
my next goal is to improve the trinkets and bracers, expensive as hell but I'll get there...
