Here's a list of some things you should, and shouldn't do, as a wizard as preparation of RoS:
Do's:
-Save your money. All your godly legendaries are about to be nearly worthless
Buy an Amulet with a quadfecta (CHC, IAS, CHD, Main Stat-doesn't matter which to reroll if necessary). Once again, Sockets or %Life are a bonus. Don't spend much!
DON'Ts
-Worry too much about amazing gear. Powerful legendaries will be much more common and smart drop rares will gear you faster then you can believe
-Buy upgraded gems. These gems will drop for FREE in RoS
-Spend too much money! Save it for RoS
-Obsess over Paragon levels. While it'll help to have a high paragon level, it isn't required by any means and grinding Paragon levels are much easier in RoS.
I wouldnt worry about any weapon in vanilla to carry over. Weapons are easiest things to replace with the higher damage ranges. Getting to 70 is easy and quick so there's no point in even worrying about LS.
Wouldn't worry about the force, either. Again, easily replaced at levels 61+.

The rest I agree with.
It is my understanding that ApoC and Life Steal no longer spawn on weapons, and having those on a weapon makes it much easier to level. But it's not a big deal. I grabbed a wand with 1130 damage, +str/dex, ApoC, 2.9% lifesteal and critical hit % for 4 million. I'm going to reroll the str/dex for a socket and I'll have one of the best 60 wands in the game to level with.
I also understand Wizard Sources are either bugged or nerfed and no longer spawn with 400+ damage very often, which is why I advocated snagging a high damage chantodo's or Tal Rasha's you can enchant APoC with, because it'll last you to 70.
True but how much time do you spend playing below max level? 5% of the time? 1%? Probably even less than that. If cheap, go for it but I wouldnt spend much of anything on leveling equipment.
Weapon is the least concern, really. You can enchant a 300 DPS weapon to a 1200 one right from the get-go if you hop into Normal mode Act V and find the Mystic. And why LS? At level 70 it's at 0%. It's essentially a wasted item property.
Rare items will not be competitive in DPS at level 70. At the moment, intended or not, it cannot roll a certain range of min/max damage (black or elemental). You can still reroll legendary items to competitive DPS, actually, not sure if that's intended. APoC on weapons?
Note how I rerolled the Chant Will's standard fire damage to a black min-max roll. Keep the APoC. There we go. Again, not sure if any of these are intended.
As for paragon levels, if they don't change monster density across all Acts to reflect the current MP system and if they don't tune EXP on higher difficulties to a more reasonable level, you better rack up paragon EXP now while you still can. I'm about 15-20 hours into the Closed Beta after the F&F Beta wipe and I've only gotten about 1.75 bars of EXP.
Just to add more, if APoC is a concern, a weapon wouldn't even be the ideal/easiest choice. A Storm Crow is an easy and affordable option to go with an APoC source (which, by the way, will likely be replaced just as fast as a weapon). Sources may not roll a max of 400+, but they can roll a min of 300+. Either way, the total average damage can often be well over 300.

I'll edit the thread to make sure it's clearer that the weapon with life steal and ApoC is suggested to use while leveling. The goal here is to take advantage of 3 sources of +ApoC(Helm, Source, Weapon) to continuously spam arcane spenders while you cut your way through act 5. Projax stated in his guide a weapon with life steal makes it much less painful.
Of course I didn't mean to suggest you'd keep this weapon at 70. It will no means compete with a 3k+ dps Hydra Sparker or whatever.
I don't really see the need to buy anything right now.. At least on EU side, everything is really expensive still, even less than perfect ones. What you are suggesting would end up costing around 200-500 mil on EU. And you do get really good items when they launch the prepatch quite quickly.. even if it lasts only 1-2 weeks, you can probably upgrade every non-godtier item you got at the moment. Also as Mystic is a RoS only feature(at least atm), you will not be able to reroll before RoS activates, so you are willing to nullify every lead you would gain with those less than perfect items, by rerolling them for 2 hours. And it won't matter for long anyways as it won't take a long time at all to level to 90..
What you should really worry is the level 90 as it's where things really go up in difficulty for us Wizards, mostly cause our healing is really bad atm. And that means almost none of our level 60 items will have enough defences to compete at that level. Some of our items will have higher dps though, but as Wizard survivability is the main issue on the Beta atm, you can't really use your old gear at all, unless they got good defencive stats.
That's my view on current state of Beta for Wizards at least, but things do have to change a bit at least till they go to 2.0 on live.
Jaetch I was wondering if you would answer a question I've had...
I don't have the Beta, so I need someone with experience over there to help me out. From what I have seen, Trifecta stats seem to have been reduced, specifically Crit Damage. Do you think it would be a good idea to keep rolling amulets, and/or looking for high CD rings to reroll with higher main stats later (int/dex/str ect) at lvl 70? CC, CD, IAS are all stats that will scale quite nicely regardless of level, which is why I ask this question. Will an amulet with 8% CC, 90%+ CD, 7% IAS and a lvl 70 main stat roll be competitive with the legendary amulets at lvl 70? OR are the legendary amulets that drop at lvl 70 in torment (I'm assuming stronger legendaries can drop in torment that we lowly PTR'ers can't get at right now) going to blow a strong rare trifecta out of the water?
Same question goes for gloves too I guess, although it looks like the shrine gloves will ultimately be the best choice for almost everyone.
Crit damage has been nerfed in a sense that it doesn't roll on weapons anymore, there seem to be few legendaries with CD (WH as an example that is to be replaced and will lower your CD), and it might not be among the four primary stats you want on rings/gloves - which makes you have less CD than in D3V. But the rolls aren't lowered. FYI, here are the possible primary rolls on an amulet (int is missing, rolls same range as vit): http://i.imgur.com/XjxsyUc.jpg
In general I really think that even absolutely insane super nice top level 60 items will be replaced eventually. Maybe not by a rare/pre-Torment legendary (belt), but certainly after you've played a while on Torment.
It also seems that Blizzard kinda nerfed enchanting of 60 items a bit, on some 60 items I get weird, useless reforging options.
Maybe there are some exceptions and maybe there will be some very few items that will have benefit after a few weeks into RoS. But if 60% of people run around with 60 amulets, Blizzard will find a way to give you an incentive to replace them. If you have insane items just keep them, but don't go crazy and stack up on 5 mules full of 60 crap.
Looking at those lvl 70 rolls, it looks to me like the top CC, CD IAS rolls on live are still the top rolls at lvl 70, which is what I suspected. So I'll keep crafting amulets and hope to get another trifecta...
I know that blizz wants the new gear to replace the old gear, I would hope that would be the case. However especially with the drop rates as slow as they are on the PTR (here's to hoping they bump it up significantly before release) it seems to me there is a good chance that a rerolled lvl 60 amulet with good trifecta stats is going to be competitive with a legendary amulet that doesn't have at least 2 of the 3 stats.
Also: Magic Find. It can roll pretty high on Amulets, and might be worth hanging onto since its being removed from all gear rolls in RoS
I know what you mean. I started a new Barb, got to para 45 and...I've hit the wall. I'm looking for new meaning in my farming on live other than paragon experience
@Bagstone and xaimx - To me it seems like jewelry pieces are bugged out. First of all, when they roll properties like melee or ranged reduction, those properties are marked as primary stats. However, if you try to reroll them to other primary stats, you often get secondary stats as choices.
See:
This is one thing, but if we're talking about trifecta stats, level 70 items can theoretically roll 9/100/10 for amulets, 9/50/6 for rings. However, even when they do roll such stats via drop or unID vendor, if you try to reroll, say 40% crit damage on a level 70 rare ring, the choices you get will likely never go beyond 25% or so. Attack speed will not go beyond 5-6%. Crit chance never over 4-4.5%. Not sure why that is the case. It's like they locked the Mystic rerolls to level ~60 or so and forgot to enable level 70 rerolls for jewelry.
Because of these issues, there really won't be any rare amulet drop in RoS that can out-DPS the double int rerolled rare amulet that I'll be bringing into the game. Legendaries, maybe, but the drop rate is currently abysmal so there's really not much to do for the time being.
This isn't the case for gloves, though. I was able to freely reroll gloves to the stat ranges I desired (500-600+ int/vit, 45+ crit damage, 9+ crit chance).
P.S. in some cases when you don't see primary stats as possible rerolls, they can actually still reroll (e.g. int to higher int, even if the Mystic UI doesn't display it). It's bugged. Once I only had two choices: AR and reduced level requirement. I rerolled anyway and ended up getting choices outside those two.

Yeah, but it's not a big deal, to be honest; it's just tht melee/ranged damage reduction is shown as primary stat, but it is a secondary stat and behaves as such (doesn't allow 5-6 primary stats). Same on bracers as well, by the way. The only item that allows for 5 primary stats is orb, if I'm not completely mistaken.
You'd be very wrong on that, with the ability to re-roll to high int, amulets and rings with max IAS and Crit Damage seem to be pretty hard to replace. Same goes for Witching Hour since you can just re-roll a less useful stat and get loads of int on it.
No. Level 60 items seem to be restricted in which affixes can be re-rolled, as well as their maximum values.
Ideally you want to have 200 when 2.0 hits so from what I remember that's 2 level 100s and a level 90 (correct if wrong!). Now obviously that drops a bit if you have several chars with a mix of paragon levels but I'd imagine the 2 100s is going to be very important. We should have ~ 3 months until 2.0 hits so with solely mp10 play it should be possible to get there even if you're starting from 0.
I have to say that I'm fairly relieved to see paragon points are not that important. The core stats are kind of useless I'm at 6000 int and could bump that up by 140 int for paragon. You might get some DPS boost through paragon, but not a game-changing difference. Paragon 2.0 adds some meaningful options to your char, but it's by far not as essential anymore as paragon 100 with 300% MF. So in my opinion, 2 100s are not very important. Paragon is great for leveling alts, though.
By the way, 99% of all players can't reasonably play on MP10. And if you're starting from 0 now, there is absolutely no way to play MP10 (unless you invest in the RMAH).
If anything has to be rerolled on a weapon it is the +x - +x dmg stat.
And I believe, scratch that ,I'm certain vanilla weapon legs will yield the best bare dps, for a simple reason,There are no +40-50% dmg stat in ros.
Even Jaetch screen shows the future usual suspect a simple and stupid wand with +50% dmg and +0.25 aps has a better dps with a poor enchant compared to the lv70 legendary with a far better dmg range
Also on a close by subject you know what is stupid, you can equip 2 three hundreth spear in ros one new legacy one ros.
1) Re-rolling damage on 60 weapons seems to not yield level 70 damage range anymore. Blizzard prevented that, would also be insane because everyone would take 100% CHD/50% ED/10APoC wands to RoS. IIRC Jaetch's Chantodo's screenshot was pre-wipe, wasn't it? If not, rest assured that Blizzard will fix this.
2) There are already legacy versions of legendaries in the game, so you can do this already on live if you want to.
3) RoS is still very very very early in the beta, even though there are only 3 months left, they have to tune A LOT, and they're working on it.
I have re-geared from scratch and it has been fun.
I figured it will be even better to find new gear and not worry about max Critical Damage, Critical Hit, or Increased Attack Speed.
My thought is to save gold and have plenty to experiment with while getting brand new gear.
I look at it like buying a mansion and putting all your junk, worn down, old furniture inside it, instead of going out and getting brand new furniture.
Question for those with RoS. Can you enchant a lv 60 item affix to a lv 70 affix range? For example if I had a lv 60 ring, can I reroll one of the primary stats to say a lv 70 ring intelligence roll? Or does it restrict the roll range to lv 60 numbers.
Edit: Had my friend test it out and you cant. The lv 60 item will only roll lv 60 ranges. Tried on witching hour, the range is 230-319 intel, lv 60 range.
The current Chantodo's Will I have right now rolled to 2200+ DPS. I didn't try in Friends & Family, though the rare sword I had then rolled to about 2K as opposed to the 1300 in the current Beta.

So rerolling my rare sword for higher damage is basically useless since it has life steal on it and you can only reroll 1 stat... right?
I guess i'll reroll my chantodo then.
