Every time the witch doctor casts a spell his weapon and offhand item disappears.. Then magically reappear in his hands again. Come on blizzard i hope you can do better than that. Even diablo 2 wasn't like that. i haven't noticed if other classes are like this. im just hoping this is really old footage and they fixed this.
if the witch doctor can magically make zombie dogs appear why cant it make weapons magically vanish and reappear?
actually i just went back and looked at the videos.. they don't disappear you can clearly see them on his side.. he just puts them away during casting.
I'm a bit disappointed that they go for WoW casting model (hanging on belt or on back weapon while casting) i would prefer to see characters using weapons itself for casting spells.

One should almost think that the game is not finished.
There is NO reason to not use weapons in the casting animation, this is just lazy work done by blizzard.
In Rift casters use their weapons when they cast spells, even when the caster has a dagger and a tome in his off hand, the tome actually comes out and is held infront of the caster, the tome opens and the pages fly back and forth.
Blizzard, you only make AAA games, so why arent you implementing something that is already done by AA games?
I will tell you why, you have become complacent.
Anyone who goes meh, you're not helping the situation of blizzard becoming complacent. Demand more, if Blizzard is going to make a profit off you, demand the most you can for the product. Having lazy, unrealistic animations which was acceptable 5 years ago, doesnt fly anymore. Quit being fanboys, demand a product that is amazing, not haphazardly thrown together. Demand perfection, dont accept mediocrity.
It's the little intricate details that make the larger picture amazing people, if you dont understand that you're being a pleb.

the barbarian keeps its weapon out for a lot of casting.
I lol'd.
"This 'spell' requires a vicious chopping motion!"
On topic, I did notice in the Press Tour B-Roll video that went out about a month ago, that the Wizard was slashing with a sword in hand as part of the animation for casting Arcane Orbs. I'm not saying that this is proof of "using weapons while casting", but that's what it looked like to me.
It's possible that most of the video we've seen so far has been from older builds. We'll have to wait for beta to see, I guess.
heres the thing... a year or so ago. Blizzard even stated that they didnt like how wow models did not use their weapons to cast, and that they wanted to tie their weapon in somehow. So it would strikes me as odd if they also put that "limitation" into d3.

If you mean channeling your spells through your weapons, then I agree.

Can the witch doctor cast zombie dogs too? Thought it was only those zombie bears.. either way, I absolutely love the spell selection in this game. hundreds of spells carefully crafted and polished

While I don't share as strong of an opinion on this as you, I do have to agree with your general point to a lesser degree. I 100% agree on that weapons or off-hand items should be used in any and all casting animations. With the speed in which these animations happen, there is no way to make a smooth animation of the character putting away his or her weapon, casting, than bringing the weapon back out. I would much rather just have the animation take advantage of the items in hand.
All and all this won't break the game for me.. But I'd be lying if I said it doesn't bother me slightly every time I see it. I hope those who make it into the Beta voice their opinions of this on the official forums.

Honestly, how many of you are going to be looking at your character when you're casting spells?
Also, keep in mind the fact that you're looking at leaked footage of a game that is still in development.

My place really was here. I was too foolish and stubborn to notice. But, what I truly hoped for then was here. Why do I always realize it When I've already lost it.

I personally savvy myself to have a keen eye for detail, especially with video games. I very much so am effected by small details in animation smoothness.
Ok, how about realism about WD needs to use his hands to cast spells. It could be intentional design as opposed to laziness
I have no doubt this choice was intentional, I just feel the use of weapons during casting, instead of having to use 1-10 frames to have the character put them away would lead to a much smoother, and desirable animation.
