My current PC is about 7 years old. I've done an admirable job of keeping it going, but the ports on the back are starting to rust (decay?) and the MOBO is acting up. It's old enough that if I were to replace the MOBO, I'd have to get a new CPU and RAM and I won't cheap out, so I'm looking at $600.
My girlfriend just got a car, so we're tapped. my only option right now is go computerless until July (tax return some time before then, and $1-$3k bonus from profitsharing at work) or finance a PC. In Canada, my financing options are limited, but I've found two options and would appreciate community input:
Or Alienware X51 (i74790 or i54460 $150 difference, GTX760Ti) through Dell.
Both options offer interest free for 12 months, and I can have it paid off in July so I'm not worried about it. What I am worried about, though, is A] GTX750 in the ASUS G20 not being able to run the games I play (D3, WoW, Sims 4, various MOBAs, SC2, etc) and B] Alienware in general, dealing with Dell if they screw something up billing-wise.
For clarification I'm a build-it-yourself kind of guy so this will be my first prebuilt setup. Not nervous about it, kind of looking forward to a nice SFF system. What I'm truly curious about is if anybody has had experience with either of these systems and companies.
yeah really. is there no possiblity to finance a self build pc ? in germany every hardware vendor where you can buy parts is offering a finance option.
I would never never never ever even think about buying premade.
Its either not premade or no pc at all..
Of course you could get a dell system and i would say that dell is a very good reseller for hardware with a proper customer service. but still i would never concider this..
Since you can build you own pc.. do it.
your pc is 8 years old . ok
well how about invest 400 bucks to get a new one? The games you mentioned are playable on any pc which is 3 years old so you dont need the latest parts...
some i5 , 8 gig ram a cheap board and a cheap 700 or even 600 series geforce will easily suffice your needs..
I could build this :
t5 ~ 100 bucks
board 50 bucks
ram 30 bucks
gpu 150 bucks max
granted you might need a new power supply , but still buy a crappy one for 25 bucks and replace it ASAP you got money.
your case should suffice and an extra hdd is also only 50 bucks.
I just read that you wont "cheap out" . and you want to spend at least 600 bucks right(which you dont have)
well in my oppinion 600 is still .. cheaping it out.
any proper new gaming pc is at least 1200 (just my humble oppinion)
So about $1k total. $250 cpu $150 mobo $100 ram and $100 wiggle room, GTX970 GPU. That's what I'd build, I have the parts picked out can link when I'm home, but the problem is financially with our expenses my pc won't make it long enough to that build.
So I'd buy pre built for now, and when I build the diy one I'd pass the pre built on to the gf who doesn't need much.
"Fine" is not enough, though =/ that's what I'm saying - these pre built systems will make do for 6-12 months, then be passed on to the the girlfriend once I build my new PC. I only mention the games I play regularly - I'd like to play Far Cry 4, GTA V (even though I have it on the One), that neat looking zombie game, etc. I'm fully aware that custom built > pre built, but I'm unable to find a retailer in Canada to finance parts, only full machines. Only two that I've found that have 0% interest for one year options, Dell (Alienware) and Futureshop/BestBuy, and that is literally my only option (unless I manage to solder the MOBO back into functionality, but even then, second shoe will drop eventually) apart from *NOT* having a computer for up to 6 months which is so far out of the question I can't even picture it.
What I really need is opinions on those companies (either one) from those who have shopped there (or know somebody who has) negative or positive experience, doesn't matter, to give me an idea of who I'm getting into bed with.
Pre built doesn't need to be horrible. The reviews on the ASUS G20 and the Alienware X51 (configured correctly) are mostly positive, and the markup is minimal from the individual parts. Yes, you end up paying about $200-$250 for the brand/case, but when my girlfriend gets it she'll be pretty excited about the color options and small form factor. Rock and a hard place, guys.

This is pretty much what I'd build, not including PSU, and I have the case already, including my local taxes. Just shy of $1400 CAD, which is $1931.50 DEM
I am unaware as to whether newegg.ca has a finance option or not. However they seem to have parts at a decent price. I could be wrong but that's where I got all my parts to build my custom built PC.
Oh man, those prices are ridiculous Seniri! Don't you already have a case and power supply? Oh right you probably need a new PSU. Why do you have two storage mediums?
That's a huge video card for Diablo 3, even some modern games too. You can get a slower one to save several hundred dollars. The GTX 660/760's are a good deal now.
If you want to make it easier and do pre-built then I would go with dell. They are the only reliable PC maker, I have seen. "Gaming PC's" are a rip off. Just get a decent PC and put a nice video card in it.
Newegg.com offers financing at 0% interest for 6 months if you spend $500, and for 12 months if you spend $1000+. This is definitely the best way to go if you want to build it yourself; as others have said, DO NOT get a Dell, they are terrible. I've financed several builds via Newegg and they are my go-to place to buy parts, as you can't beat the number and quality of reviews on there when you're trying to decide what to get.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
if you decide to buy anything prebuild.. go for dell.. its in my oppinion the only alternative
Dell is a pile of junk. Try Newegg and Ibuypower there's a few other places way better than Dell's garbage ass pc's!
I can only talk from a european point of view, so your experience may be different. But in Germany Dell has quite a good name. Its not junk. its also not the best stuff. but it gets the job done and is reliable.

Don't buy a 970... There are way too many issues surrounding the card.
That being said... you could run onboard with the games you play and be fine.

If you got decent credit man go through Newegg. Do their preferred account 12 months same as cash! That's how I build mine and keep it updated!
