I'm really curious to see what the new game will look like in terms of style. I am not of the mindset that a new game will go backwards to the D2 style of game play and character structure, but one hopes that the team looks really hard at the good aspects of the previous games, the good aspects of similar games, some new fresh ideas, and mixes them together. Personally, what I'd really like to see:
Longer character development, in the sense that I can have stuff that needs to be done on the same character and maintain it, as opposed to the more transitory style of D3 characters, who can essentially be replaced every few months. This means a longer leveling process, rarer legendary items but more reason to hunt them down, a more static skill/trait/talent set, but still having some flavor options....for example, a Whirlwind barb would find it difficult to switch to being any other barb, but can be flexible in how he/she whirlwinds.
D3's QoL: The UI, inventory handling and in game features are excellent in D3, and that is definitely something to build on.
Seasons: While the concept of seasons does not really mesh well with D2 style character structure, I think the competitive spirit seasons engender is really good for the game, and since that has really been the main activity for Diablo the last few years, I'd be shocked if they veered far from that style.
Crafting & Gear; As above, less is more I think. More static items that push you to look for them, a reason to craft gear at all, and the opportunity to reroll items; we've had these as staples and I see no reason not to keep those types of options around.
Story:...no real thoughts on this, other than please, for the love of Tyrael, please no more bosses shouting how puny we are and how invincible they are through an entire act only to drop in 35 seconds. Diablo deserves better than Power Ranger villains, is what I'm saying.
From D4 I want to see superb isometric engine allowing high interaction with the enemies and the environment. Besides smashing skulls in all possible directions, I want to cut tunnels in mountains with a soso beam, destroy trees near the battle with my barb swings, bring the dust and sand in the air with my monk, make holes in castles with my amazon arrows and I want all of this to have an EFFECT on how the AI adjusts to the battle. That will be D4 for me. Anything less will be milking of the old cow again.

Those are great ideas, I'd like to see them as well!
I wonder about the outrage if it were a PVP expansion...
"Isometric Battle Royal, where you fight fellow Nephalem for supremacy
Join us 05-X-2019"
Or a mobile game.
Well, considering the thread of all the Diablo games is the loot hunt, I kind of think that would be a bad choice. That said, I don't think a robust PvP portion of the game would necessarily be a bad thing; I didn't mind that they removed the hostile function of D2 for D3, but I do think if people want it as a part of the game, it should be included. I also think that esports help keep games current and relevant, to an extent.
As for a mobile game...I'd love to play Diablo on my iPad, but I can't imagine it being great to play with just tapping. It is just too limiting. I would love to see a companion app like they made for WoW, where you could craft gear, or maybe trade items. I really hope they bring back trading the right way.

Diablo Mobile would be playable like Dungeon Hunter Games. So I can very well imagine something like that becoming a thing. Besides the mobile game, I hope there is something big after the opening ceremony.
Well, this could mean:
1) Community manager is trolling.
2) They show only D4 teaser/cinematic without anything else from D4 and not announcing its genre/gameplay etc.
3) They announce D4 and show gameplay as we predicted - this then leads to what? They are making Diablo World parallel with D4? Hitting both the aRPG and classic MMO genres with different games, but parallel story? Or going for next gen VR MMO game?
Could be any of these. We need more clues - that Adria comic coming soon?
I think the main topic will be the NSW launch, which is set to be on day one. They might tackle some mobile project (?) as well and the 'other Diablo-related news'. They have noticed a lot of hype about D4 and need to lower the expectations for PC gamers a bit.
The fact that Blizzard is so god damned scared to talk about ANYTHING related to a 'diablo 4' is fucking frustrating. Wow Blizz, yea D3 on switch so god forbid you talk about anything else otherwise zomg less sales right? If they've been working on a D4 for years, as has been speculated, then they absolutely COULD have done an announcement this Blizzcon.
Brevik is right, Blizzard is being consumed by activision. They're more worried about some god damned switch sales of D3 then they are letting us know diablo isn't dead.

I feel like the blog posts directly indicates that any kind of D4 announcement will be just about the only thing they AREN'T going to announce. A cinematic for a new game and gameplay I think is wishful thinking. But I'm looking forward to any news and comics, etc.
My hype train crashes only if D3 expansion isn't revealed. Tbh, Druid and patches would make me happy as well.
Yeah same here my dude. I'll be okay with no D4 announcement because they're pretty much indirectly hinted at it's development. For the mean time I'll be happy with new D3 content. Although I know that isn't entirely possible either since there's a new team behind D3 now.
I just hope they give us *something* this blizzcon that isn't solely a remaster. God forbid we get a mobile game *shudders*

Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 -"So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
"Hey, I thought you'd like the witty irony of grub-on-glowie violence!"
They are opening the ceremony with something Diablo related and this is very possibly not D3 DLC or D2 HD. This means:
1) Diablo mobile/console-like spin-off - meanwhile working on D4 and not announcing it
2) D4 - meanwhile working on Diablo World MMO and not announcing it
While D3 DLC and D2 HD are perfectly fine to be announced this year, I don't think they are worthy to open the ceremony since both have a lot less fan base atm than their other franchises. Which then leaves only one very slim possibility for a HUGE D3 expansion pack:
3) D3 expansion - meanwhile working on D4 and not announcing it
This would mean they did NOT scrap the Necro expansion/story, just delayed it to be made more in-depth and to release it with another hero, but we have other evidence already about it (datamined stuff pointing they just scrapped it), so I really don't expect case 3).
Final case is they are really desperate for viewers/attention and they open with:
4) D3 DLC and D2 HD - meanwhile working on D4 and not announcing it
Here are the chances I give atm for these cases:
1) 50%
2) 25%
3) 5%
4) 20%
Which means our D4 hype train went from 100% power to 25%, but is still moving at least.
P.S. "Horadric retreat" sounds very mobile and if it is indeed case 1) the train will finish in the troll town.
Sean Murray comes on stage to announce that Blizzard sold the Diablo IP to his company; Hello Games
Sean then goes on to explain that his vision for the franchise will include procedural dungeons, monsters, loot, and of course planets (he calls them Realms of Hell, but they are basically planets).
When asked what the difference would be between that and D3? Sean shrugs and says, "Over promise and under deliver boys", then walks off stage.
Jay Wilson then runs on stage and starts beatboxing the theme to, "The Price is Right!" before jumping into the crowd and hammer fisting everyone in the face.

All is well in world.
checks out.
also, you all please stop with a diablo mmo. blizzard wouldn't promote this franchise to be their cash cow killer.
Their cash cow might be on life support in 5 years when they release their next gen VR MMO. It could very well be Diablo related and this could very well be the long project they are talking in the last blue post. Can you imagine the noise from the audience if they don't announce D4 this year and instead open with a D3/D2 HD cinematic? They will do worse impression to their show than La La Land best movie award has done to the Oscars - if they don't announce D4 this year they are trolling not only us - this time they are trolling THEMSELVES too, which is costly and they are greedy - a very illogical combination. That said an MMO is not impossible to be in the works atm and the last blue post to be related to it.

diablo is too niche to be a successful mmo after the warcraft mmo ends (which we will see in ten years or even much much later). VR will never gain any attention, it just doesn't add anything besides a big fat price tag.

D4:
+ Cinematic
+ Gameplay
+ Website
+ Coming 2020
D2HD:
+ Coming 2019
D3:
- Expansion
50/50 DLC
I am still unsure only about the D3 case. So much questions there and points pro/contra new DLC. I leave it 50/50 for a DLC. No expansion for sure.
D2HD will probably not be part of it. Maybe something D2 related.
Are they seriously releasing Book of Adria without announcing it first?
