While I must admit that last weeks pump the brakes article has basically eliminated D4 being an announcement next week, I still think something big is in the works. I can't see a "What's Next' for Diablo devoted to how it plays on the Switch. I kind of think we'll get a renewed D2 and/or a D3 Expansion, with a tease about a new game. We find out in 6 days!
It's hard to write anything now when I am more interested in WC3 HD than new Diablo in the Blizzcon year of Diablo. Why they hyped this kind of game in that way is beyond me. This looks worse than D1.
What I don't understand is why make that "multiple projects in the works video" and then elude to them being mentioned at all. Another project mentioned would have at least saved face.
if this is the future of diablo, then sign me out please. spending resources to port diablo to mobile(wtf?) instead of focusing to realease a new game or expansion. GG
Bruh they didn't even spend the resources! they gave their existing D3 assets to another company, who then just reskinned their existing game to make it diablo themed
In 2017 spring they said that they had to decide in 2016 summer whether to do expansion or a dlc. They did necro as expansion would've taken too much time. I wonder if that was a small lie reflecting to 2015 job postings.
From one side as you said this was probably a lie and they just scrapped the expansion and turned it into a character DLC. From another side if it was NOT a lie and they developed a whole class from scratch this means they've probably done this with the idea to develop more in the future. It so happens that we will know which case is it after Blizzcon 2018.
We do know now. Also, we know the state of their marketing team. And we expanded our list of trolls working there.
The sum-up:
- D2 HD probably will come after they are done with WC3 HD, this means 2020.
- D3 is RIP.
- D4 may be in an early development stage, this means 2022 release earliest. However, I don't have high hopes for it and I don't expect a top-down view game, so Diablo is in a big lull (not a mistype, word means pause) for me.
What is left for us, as aRPG fans now? You can play PoE if you find it fun. They will support it for a few years more for sure until they build a new engine and make PoE 2 (potential 2027 release). Another option is Torchlight Frontiers that is coming 2019. We have to see around what endgame they develop the game. The engine is worse than D3, but their game mechanics seems fun from what I saw. Wolcen might be fun too, I don't follow it, I might start doing it. Besides these three we can expect some surprises for sure. You never know. Building games is a lot easier nowadays compared to 1998 and yet there still appear tons of crap worse than D1/D2. The bad thing now is, the crap started carrying the name Diablo too.
After thousands of hours playing D3, all I can keep thinking about is how amazing it would be if they opened up modding for the community. Millions of Diablo fans creating content for the game they love and sharing it.
they make damage with this "mobile" madness, now some people just stop to play d3 only becouse of this bad behavior, like youtube delete dislikes etc. This is just sad,i dont have words, just disappointment and sadness :-/

That means they cannibalize D4/D5 with such move since if D3 is open to modders it will be played for 20 years more at minimum since its engine is exceptional and the modders know what they are doing, they are not clueless developers. It's better for them to let D3 rip than opening it to modders. This means more money from next Diablo projects, which will be heavily build around microtransactions and loot boxes.
All this is of course a product of the world we are living in atm - greedy society interested only in accumulating wealth and ready to sacrifice its children in order to gain more from its future ones. Each person equals a money value in such society and is replaced by another when needed. People are after short-term rewards missing the big picture and this reflects in every aspect of our lives - games and entertainment is just one minor example. Until the people don't change their viewpoint and start doing things for the idea, not for the reward, we are going to have more of this stinking stuff. And the worse thing is, most of the people can not change their viewpoint - they are like machines programmed for certain operations and that is it. Sad story.
The only thing that will redeem this steaming pile of garbage is if they actually make a D2 remastered at some point.
Rather remake. Remaster on current old engine is very hard to do as Brevik said, also they will have problems in stopping modders (tmc/map hack), dupers and overall cheaters (botters are impossible to stop), next problem is very archaic game mechanics which only small group of hc fans want to play nowadays.
They firstly announced WC3hd so it looks like they have much of work on D2HD already. This new WC3 Reforge looks like semi Remake (some differences in Campaign but the same MP), new President is "u think u do, but u dont" so I think D2hd will be full remake with different systems, maybe with boa and ah to bring back d3 ppl, mobile ppl, new casual ppl and ocasionally d2 hc ppl. It will be big test (like "diablo" mobile) before new Diablo 4 game.
You are absolutely right. It's impossible to remake D2 while keeping all of its systems and mechanics because of issues that you have already listed.
I like the idea of bringing it back with BOA / AH, it might work out... Although I'm sure that anything other than the original trading system will create a huge backlash but some things are just not going to happen i.e bringing back the game with all the bots, dupes, hacks, real money 3rd party sites, etc, etc...
I would love to see a patch in Diablo 3 I got some suggestions some thoughts, what if we scrap blood shards, and introduce a wide variations of new fresh crafting materials/shards that can drop randomly from almost everything with different drop rate.
With new mats we could use them to adds sockets in different forms. also adds special small minor effekts to characters etc.
Making Crafting ineresting in a new way.
revamp of paragon system. Add some new paragon traits so its more wider and intresting (also takes longer to complete)
Buffing every boss in the game, making them a challange (boss revamp maybe).
Some kind of nerf to goblin vault (it capping players with gold to fast early game, goblins overall)
Some rare special keys that can drops, thats open up unique places that has higher chanse to drop loot (like an time event, with timer. High elite density etc)
Also a new class, i think that could give D3 a fresh start again and attract many players
cross my finger for something like that coming up maybe in future
I don't want make u sad, but bli$$ard have, your suggestions and thoughts, deep, deep in green from dollars A$$.
IT is pretty much confirmed by now that D3 had 2 expansion packs planned, the second one was to be named " The king in the north" look the diablo wiki and you will find it.
It was thanks to Mr Morheim that it was decided to split the content into patches with the new zones, quests and all other systems and features being released for free as a compensation to the fans who felt cheated and lied about Diablo 3 .
Now the same shit that happened during the development of d3, happened in d4 in the course of 4 years they scrapped 2 iterations and changed 2 directors and still don't have a clue where to go with the game.
Since the moment we stepped into the office on Monday, we have been discussing everything Diablo non-stop. We’re fully committed to listening and engaging—so please keep the constructive feedback coming. Our primary focus right now is poring over that feedback to inform internal discussions, and we’ll follow up with further thoughts as soon as we can.
Seems like they finally understood the real power of the Diablo fans - might be a new beginning, who knows?
Activision has Blizzard on the leash and their goal is to increase revenue with the mobile market. They just announced the other Blizzard IPs are going mobile as well.
This "we hear you" crap is completely bull$#%t

Warcraft 3 looked cool. Diablo is dead.

You're a wizard Harry.....
Hype dead. No Necromancy, no matter how strong, will be able to raise it again.

its literally 0effort

Unbelievable
Nevalistis says "we are not done with D3" @ 33min.
The question now is, what we should make out of this after her other statements to the Diablo community?
There is really no question at all. She's completely unrialable. Noone takes her words seriously.
