I don't think either game, wc3 or sc2, is really for a true casual gamer. It's more for a competitive gamer. The reward in a game like this is the reward of victory.
When it comes to multiplayer you get nervous because screwing up costs you the game and that means a lot when you invest an hour straight of complete focus and concentration and to come out of that with a loss is just heart breaking. However, I find the best way to avoid that is to not really care about losing. As long as you know your just playing for fun, losing doesn't become a big idea. It's like Bruce Lee said, you have to relinquish any fear of death, then and only then can you focus 100% on the task at hand. If you focus on having fun and getting better, it's not that hard to get pretty good at these games in terms of online play.
Depending on what race you play will determine how much micro you need. If you play Protoss your looking at almost the same micro required of wc3 if you want to win.

Well at least Bruce Lee got a good work out after it was all over. I just sat there in a chair at my desk for an hour hunched over my computer screen. But yeah I am afraid the micro will suck a lot of the enjoyment out of it for me. It's nice to have a certain auto quality to RTS games or any simulation games for that matter.
It's a good example of why I hated Sim City 4. An otherwise fun and beautiful simulation game, there was so much fucking micromanagement (even for Sim City) in that game that it sucked all the enjoyment out of it and you couldn't even take a breath long enough to just sit back and admire your growing metropolis. Even on the slowest setting the days flew by and you had to constantly deal with your budget and all these petitions and shit that your citizens brought to you.
I know what ya mean. Micro is pretty stressful and it's hard to get good at it when you have a life lol. It's a pretty big time commitment with not much reward for the play. Still, I'm gonna try my hand in it.

Well yeah I'll try it too. In that I will try Starcraft 2. I wanna do the campaign at first though. Oh, can you actually play campaign in multiplayer? That would be something.
That it would. That would be really freaking cool. Doubt it though.

I love co-op campaign play. I've mostly just played it in FPS games though but I've always wondered why they didn't try more to implement it in RTS games and so on. The closest thing though would be for multiplayer against a computer in a skirmish game. I'd certainly try that with any of you.
It would be too easy. The computer AI is never as good as a person.
Since there seems to be such an emphasis on the campaign it's getting me excited because in WC3 the campaign was OK but really...it was a little lame. But, I know it could be really good so I expect a lot from the SC2 campaign.
Thats such a great idea though, co op campaign would be so sick. And it's not like it would be too much easier either because a lot of times your only controlling a few units at a time.

I've done co-op skirmishes in Starcraft and Warcraft 3. It's not as easy as you might think. Sure, it Starcraft the AI would just stop attacking you eventually out of boredom, but the first few rounds can be pretty tough. Especially if you have two computer teams going against you and your friend. And often times they'd just focus on attacking one of you and so the other guy is pressed just to get some support over to your base. And that's all just with the crappy SC1 AI. But I can imagine it would be more dynamic in SC2. Maybe there would even be more different kinds of co-ops with like gauntlet style missions and stuff.
I had beta and i owned. Really, i was surpirised of how good i was at 1vs1. I played Zerg only.
Im gona finish the campaign and then move on to b.net... Playing ladder will be nice but im really looking forward for a Dota user created map of some sort.
One of the reasons that will make me buy it is simply because i got nothing to play atm and this is a fucking Blizzard game.
I kinda hate alot of things that Blizzard did with the game and b.net but i can live with that. Oh and i will probably buy the whole triology once it comes out because it will look so sweet on the shelf xD
The only kind I really prefer is the co-op kind where you and a friend just go against a tough computer opponent. But going against a human makes me sweat nervously. It's not like in Halo where you just kill each other, respawn and kill each other again. It feels like there's more at stake in RTS game and just simple mistakes can turn the whole game against you. I could maybe give pvp another chance, but it would have to be with people I'm at least acquainted with, say, you guys.
I can agree with you somewhat here. During beta I almost exclusively played co-op with some friends, it's much more fun when you play it with someone you know. And losing not really that bad, especially when it mostly happens to rushes and is over in 10 minutes anyway
3) Overall RTS games lack any long term investment value. I do believe SC2 is introducing some new game mechanics to change some of this. But when you just play a map, kill everything, and then it's over, what do you do next?
It's always been one of my largest gripes with RTS games as well, but SC2 is just fun. I like playing a game, trying out new openings figuring out how to evolve my gameplay. It's a game where the progress isn't archived in in-game material, but in game knowledge.
And I'm not an exceptional player, we played gold so I'm in the middle segment of the population. That's the great part: you can play with people who suck just as much as yourself

That's just not true. WC3 raped me so hard when it came to spell micro in battles.
For competitive play sure in SC2, but in around 70 games I rarely built High Templars, because I don't want to use storm. Of course I play co-op with another race, so that gives us a little more leeway in terms of how to counter unit compositions. But the game will put you in an approrpaite level, and with the millions who will be playing this after release, there should be plenty of bronze-level players around depending on how seriously one wants to play.

PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I cant wait to play Sc2 even though I suck. I played Beta was in the bottom league lol but I did eventually get the achievement of winning 5 games in a row which I thought was sweet I was way better at Wc3 than Starcraft. I just got lots of head hunters/shamans and I pwnzored (Most of the time) The Campaighn looks really sweet and the way there doin git is awesome to. I get to choose my own missions and where I want to go next which I belive will keep me playin for a while. So many decisions

I tried answer truthfully, but I guess I didn't do a very good job. I am a Thor Pilot, and the description is basically the opposite of my personality.
